Sorry for the misleading headline. Here is my question: I've heard many people urging patience on Greg Oden, for, they claim, in a best case scenario, he could be the next Dwight Howard. My question to you all is: supposing that he does come back and play close to or as good as Dwight Howard, would that justify picking him over Durant?
Just so you know, I'm a big Greg Oden fan, and I'm glad we picked him: I think he is a nice, funny guy, and to me he makes the Blazers more interesting and fun to follow. From a purely wins/losses perspective, however, I don't see how it's possible to say Kevin Durant wouldn't have been a better choice. How could a 6' 9'' scoring machine and near-MVP not be better than Greg Oden, even if the latter is one day as good as Dwight Howard?
So here's my bottom line question: wouldn't the Blazers be better right now if they had Marcus Camby+Kevin Durant than Dwight Howard? I don't know how LMA would fit, but I'm sure Brandon Roy would do fine with Durant, given Roy's unselfish nature. In fact, he'd probably be considered an even bigger star accenting Durant's game.
Maybe I'm just revealing my naiveté, but I hope someone can help clear up my question in bold-face above; I wonder about it often.
Thanks in advance.
