Camby's first choice is to return to the Blazers.
"My top priority is to come back (to the Trail Blazers) if things work out the right way like we all want them to work out the rest of the season," Camby said. "This is my first choice. They really wanted me here, and they got me here. So hopefully things can work out."-nbafanhouse

We're going to need a backup center.
:(
Still sad about Przybilla, but at least we’ve got a good replacement for him lined up.
Wearing the black band for Jarrett Jack, Ime Udoka, Fred Jones, Sergio Rodriguez, Channing Frye, Luke Schenscher, Shavlik Randolph, James Jones, Josh McRoberts, Steven Hill, Jarron Collins, Michael Ruffin, Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw. Sacrificed to the unmerciful god of progress.
Yeah.
Plus it gives us a little different look. Camby is a tad more flexible than Joel position wise. It would be nice having a different sort of center you can go to without giving up height.

A Batum, Camby, Oden front line?
:)
Wait, am I already looking forward to next year? Can’t do that yet!

That is just crazy defensively.
It would be a great lineup for end of game situations. If you need a stop it makes a lot of sense.

I'd be even happier
if bayless could pick up more defensive intensity as well to go with that. I’d love three strong defenders available on the floor at once.
"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.
But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"

Camby is a tad more flexible than Joel position wise
More than a tad. Camby is a classic high-post passing big man who was averaging 3 assists-per-game with the Clips. And while I’m not crazy about Marcus taking 18 footers from the top of the key, but at least he has that shot in his tool-holster, unlike Joel. Camby is a true 4-5, Joel and Greg are just centers who really couldn’t be played simultaneously. The Oden-LMA-Camby big man rotation makes a lot of sense, and Portland can more-easily sell a legit “role” with 25-30 mpg to MC this summer knowing that Przy won’t be in fall camp

The Przybilla situation
almost gaurantees he gets the chance to come back.
And I hope he does.
R.I.P. Mark Linkous
It likely won't be at the start of next year
And summer re-agency decisions will be done before that.
we will also likely need an additional center
like a rookie, or jarren collins type guy
Awesomeness (ô'səm-nes)
1. n. Something that inspires awe
2. n. Nicolas Batum
is he tall enough?

For a third string center, yeah I think so.

he hasnt been able to play 4th string this year
though

yeah, not quite big enough. A third-string center for us has to fill the same role as our existing 5s--a big, meaty beast, if not a skilled one, would do the trick.
Then, when Camby or Oden gets hurt (it’s bound to happen, hopefully just minor things from here on out, of course), the game plan doesn’t have to change too drastically and Pendy can become the third stringer.
is Freeland > Pendy?
or is Pendy > Freeland?
I don’t think even Norsktroll can make that call at this point
There’s no doubt Jeff has more BB experience than the young Brit
For a backup to LMA/Greg I want a veteran, preferably one in his late 20s or early 30s. Playoff experience would be nice. Someone with a mean streak but who won’t mess with the team’s culture.
(I don’t know, is there a Buck Williams or a Briant Grant out here who could be had for the MLE? I’d even settle for a younger version of Joel Przybilla)
but in the end I suspect we’ll get the geezer patrol (Juwan and Camby) Things could be worse

Orlando matched Dallas' offer sheet for Gortat
I’ve never considered him to be as “available” as others seem to think he is
Can he make an open 10-15 footer with regularity? If not, then he’ll just be stuck behind Oden here like he’s stuck behind Howard, down there

but eventually we'll need a backup to replace Camby
he is 36, after all, and little injury prone himself.
I'd love to have Camby back next year
I hope he’d be willing to accept a backup role to Oden. He still has the skills to be a starter somewhere.
However, at that age plenty of vets are just looking for their last contract and a shot at a title
There are sure minutes available in the big man rotation at both the 4 and 5. Oden isn’t likely to figure out the foul trouble thing right away either. I have to think Camby would like that situation.
"In Batum's case he must realize he is very likely the first Blazer to successfully fight over a pick all season..."

Camby if Joel is out sounds great
If Joel isn’t out, not as much unless, of course, we trade Joel.
The skeptic in me looks at this, says great, but NY is also making a play for Camby. Being wanted my Portland means that a bidding war can take place. Camby wins either way, but until then it’s good business sense to drive up the bidding.
I would love Camby to stay here, be healthy, and back-up Greg. He’s the type of veteran that you really want for Greg. Love Joel… but Camby makes a lot of sense if we can get him.

Next season looks like a lost season for Joel
Really a shame for him—he deserves better. But it might be a good thing for us selfish Blazer fans. Now it might be possible to sign Joel AND Camby. That’s a lot of GO insurance, and a lot of defensive fire-power off the bench if GO’s healthy. You can never have too many physical bigs come playoff time.
I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.
You too, Przy: everyone knows you're the heart & soul of the Blazers.
Camby
Hard to read too much into comments by a pro like Camby because it behooves him to express himself in a gracious manner with regard to the team he is currently with.
That being said though, I do think the Blazers would have a good shot at signing him if they made him a decent offer. Knicks seem iffy both because they are a losing team and there is no reason to believe that is going to change any time soon, plus to the extent his family has put in roots in LA it’s a lot longer commute from NY to LA than from Portland to LA. Clippers seem iffy since you would think they would lean toward putting their cap space into younger players that will be more long-term franchise builders. Plus it could be a drag signing with a team that traded you away. Although, Clips may have potential to be a winning team with a healthy Griffin and some new talent acquired with their cap space.
Excellent points
The downside to Camby staying is playing behind Oden and minutes.

best-case scenario
Joel rehabs the heck out of his knee and is ready to return to the roster next March. In effect, Portland would be adding another big man to add to their playoff roster without having to “give up” anything (except for clearing a roster space, which could be done with another 2-1 trade at the trading deadline, or releasing the 15th man, etc)
Przy is not another Raef. He’s going to want to return to PDX to finish what he started, if his knee will cooperate

Of course he would say that
We’ve got his bird rights according to hoopdata.com, which means we could pay more. His maximum deal from us would be just about what Roy makes. It is in his interest to try to come back here for as much as possible.
Bayless, Martell, Batum, Camby, Oden
would make for a lot of 14 point quarters…. for both us and the opposition. :)
bayless, webster, and batum can score though.
bayless inside, webster outside, batum everywhere in between. oden and camby aren’t too shabby either.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

more Bedgers should be behind the idea of keeping Marcus. A 37 year-old vet diving on the floor for a loose ball, in a regular-season game in March against the Kings?
Old school. Like Juwan Howard, MC cares about winning
I wonder if Portland will use Andre Miller as part of the “Camby recruitment strategy” next July? Talk about a reversal of roles from last summer
