I have a feeling Roy is going to drop about 40 on Sactown Tuesday

And LA will chime in with about 25.

Can we at least actually get blown out once, except vs. Boston, and not actually keep trying and make it interesting. It’d be mentally easier on me.

Bad games by Roy and LMA. Defense was terrible. Bayless and Miller tried to step up.

by JasonT on Mar 7, 2010 10:15 PM PST reply actions

We wasted a great shooting night from bayless and Rudy.

Heck even Martell knocked down a 3. We just had no answer for Melo, and Billups does as he always does, destroy opponent’s building momentum. We had a couple of runs, but could never get it down to less than 7. We also missed a LOT of layups.

Sometimes, we hear the coach Nate say that the Blazers lost because of effort and scrappiness

and we all kind of roll our eyes….but let’s be honest….that was a very poor effort on the defensive end. Part of it was the refs not allowing Nick to guard Melo…but we just folded defensively after the Nick picked up those 2 fouls. Arrrggghhh.

maybe, but if we play the Nuggets or Lakers in the first round...

we are losing, and we are losing bad. Both of those teams play defense, I’m not sure what to call what we play…but it sure aint defense.

Nuggets do a lot of things good, but defense is not one of them.

by prajna on Mar 7, 2010 10:28 PM PST up reply actions

We scored 106 points...got the line at will

it was our defense and rebounding that let us down. I’m sorry to tell you folks, but this has been a problem all year long. It’s not gonna fix itself this year. I really don’t think we can get out of the first round, with such poor defense.

by JasonT on Mar 7, 2010 10:22 PM PST reply actions

by prajna on Mar 7, 2010 10:23 PM PST up reply actions

I don't think you can blame a loss on rebounding

When we out-rebounded them by 2. We also worked them over on offensive boards.

Defense though, sure. Not so good to let the other team shoot 59%

Still on the Rex bandwagon.

by dan_the_man on Mar 7, 2010 10:27 PM PST up reply actions

Blazers outrebounded the Nuggets w/o a center.

The defense was poor all around. Carmelo set the tone early and the rest of the Nuggets couldn’t miss.

I don’t think we learned anything noteworthy today. Other than the Nuggets are a much better basketball team and Roy is struggling to get back his explosion and rhythm.

by prajna on Mar 7, 2010 10:31 PM PST up reply actions

Actually we outrebounded Denver

And we got more shot attempts than them as well. The problem is we just can’t play good perimeter defense for 48 minutes, which is compounded by the fact that the nugs have 3 solid iso players in Melo, Billups and JR. I don’t blame Roy for his offensive woes, I blame him for his sad sack effort on defense. He just didn’t rotate very well, and the problems began in the first quarter. I thought we actually did a pretty good job in the second half, it was just we couldn’t stop them in the first and second quarters at all.

Allowing Affalo to get his own rebound off a missed free throw

and not being able to get a dang rebound after we finally get them to miss…that was pathetic. I would venture to say that Denver had less rebounds than us, because their field goal shooting was so much higher than ours (59% to 42%).

by JasonT on Mar 7, 2010 10:34 PM PST up reply actions

Than wouldn’t that give them more rebounds.

After the 1st quarter, Nuggets knew they were going to win the game.

At no point did they feel any pressure. A couple of Blazer spurts, but Nuggets knew they could score whenever they wanted.

I don't feel that bad about this loss at all

Denver played well: shot well and defended well. Roy and Aldridge had off nights shooting. A bad combination equaling a loss.

I remembered why I stop reading gamethreads

No need to bash commenters.

People are reacting to the play on the court. Emotional responses are to be expected. Most comments in the post-game are fair and reasonable.

Roy and Aldridge did not have just off nights shooting. They weren’t able to get comfortable in the offense. The Nuggets quickly doubled and rotated. Roy and Aldridge have yet to learn how to deal with aggressive double teams. They are making their decision too late. As far as their defense, well, let’s not speak of it again.

"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith

by blzrfan on Mar 7, 2010 10:34 PM PST up reply actions

Who are you defending?

comments like “they didn’t care,” or “look what $150 million gets you,” both said repeatedly?

I’d say Aldridge made some good passes out of double teams. I’d say Roy got to the rim in spite of the double teams, but did not finish as well as he usually does nor get the calls he usually does. That’s what I saw.

I never referred to the defense. It was poor.

I’m not asking for gamethreads to change, I just don’t like them. They make me like basketball less

I'm not defending anyone in particular.

I was stating the context of the comments and why they are made. People are passionate and venting. I didn’t understand the need to complain about it if you already knew how game thread ends up.

With regard to Roy and LMA. The Nuggets did a good job of making Roy uncomfortable with the ball. Roy did get to the hoop a few times early, but the Nuggets adjusted by bringing double teams at various times. Roy looked unsure of where he could find an opening and it resulted in him settling for more jumpshots.

LMA’s problem is that he looks for the double team before it even comes. As if he made up his mind to pass the ball. At that point, the defense has won the mind game.

Offensively we had some good things to take away from this game

36 free throws, 56% from the 3 line, and only 9 turnovers. The 42% fg shooting was not great, but if we had played some semblance of decent defense, we would’ve had a chance to win this game. Denver shot 59% from the field. No way we were gonna win the game allowing Denver to shoot that efficiently.

Blazers would be better off not being in the playoffs and getting a better draft pick! This proves the Blazers have little chance to win in the first round. I would prefer that the Blazers miss the playoffs and draft a center, since our big men are injured often.
