It's so encouraging that Aldridge looks so defeated when Melo hits a shot with an extended hand in his face. 5 feet away.
I mean, it’s so obvious the guy cares. It hurts me, too.

I have a feeling Roy is going to drop about 40 on Sactown Tuesday
And LA will chime in with about 25.

Why must this team TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS!
Can we at least actually get blown out once, except vs. Boston, and not actually keep trying and make it interesting. It’d be mentally easier on me.

Captain obvious here...
Roy and LMA both played like 2nd stringers tonight.
2nd stringers is generous
if 2nd string players played like roy or LA tonight, they would be benched immediately
$140+ million
More than I’ll make in 50 lifetimes, and that’s what we get?
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
No worries
I don’t think many people expected a win w/o Camby and a gimpy Roy.
Treat people well because Karma can hit you at any second.
12 point loss in what feels like a 30 point blow out.
Bad games by Roy and LMA. Defense was terrible. Bayless and Miller tried to step up.

Should’ve been a 30 point blow out, or worse the way portland played tonight. I hate being a Blazer fan sometimes
I never do.

me either.
teams have off nights, it sucks, but it happens. I always love these guys (except the Jail Blazers ,but I think most of us Blazers fans want to pretend that never happened).
definitely not a pretty game
but having no center and our main player having an off night the game could have be much worse.

The Nuggets played good D on Roy and LA. Rudy and Bayless looked good because the Nuggets decided to let them try and beat us.

LaMarcus and Brandon's mothers' should be embarrassed
that was pathetic effort on the defensive end and boards all night long
hey! that's $150 million you're talking about there, mister!

We wasted a great shooting night from bayless and Rudy.
Heck even Martell knocked down a 3. We just had no answer for Melo, and Billups does as he always does, destroy opponent’s building momentum. We had a couple of runs, but could never get it down to less than 7. We also missed a LOT of layups.

Was Roy used as a distraction tonight?
Didn’t seem to be doing anything else out there. Is he injured? Did he just not care about this game or something?
Tough to see their star player vastly outplay our star player.

His shot just wasn't on tonight
Oh well.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I just can't accept that, though.
I understand that players are bound to have bad shooting nights every now and then, but good players know how to change their game and score in other ways. Roy just disappears at times and makes me question why he’s even in the game.

This isn't even in the top 20 most painful losses for year this year
They were better, move on.

Compared to the Utah loss two weeks ago,
this is like a buzzer-beating triple OT win over the L*kers
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Or the first Denver loss
Or both Memphis home losses, or need I go on?
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
So many awful losses this year...
Hornets loss was bad too. Both Atlanta losses. Game in Boston. At milwaukee. i could go on and on.
Seemed like last year we had tons of amazing wins. This year, just the opposite
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Both did
Sorry, but they rolled over the Pacers about as easily as we did.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Sometimes, we hear the coach Nate say that the Blazers lost because of effort and scrappiness
and we all kind of roll our eyes….but let’s be honest….that was a very poor effort on the defensive end. Part of it was the refs not allowing Nick to guard Melo…but we just folded defensively after the Nick picked up those 2 fouls. Arrrggghhh.
Seriously though
After 3, almost 4 days of rest I expected roy to be ready to go. What the HELL?!?!?!
you guys act like star players never have bad games

The last team we beat who were worth a damned was probably Phoenix about a month ago. (Grizzlies were already on a home losing streak when we beat them).

maybe, but if we play the Nuggets or Lakers in the first round...
we are losing, and we are losing bad. Both of those teams play defense, I’m not sure what to call what we play…but it sure aint defense.
We scored 106 points...got the line at will
it was our defense and rebounding that let us down. I’m sorry to tell you folks, but this has been a problem all year long. It’s not gonna fix itself this year. I really don’t think we can get out of the first round, with such poor defense.
I don't think you can blame a loss on rebounding
When we out-rebounded them by 2. We also worked them over on offensive boards.
Defense though, sure. Not so good to let the other team shoot 59%
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
Blazers outrebounded the Nuggets w/o a center.
The defense was poor all around. Carmelo set the tone early and the rest of the Nuggets couldn’t miss.
I don’t think we learned anything noteworthy today. Other than the Nuggets are a much better basketball team and Roy is struggling to get back his explosion and rhythm.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
yea, roy looked and played like he aged 12 years in a month.
he is probably in a helluva lotta pain to be goin so slow.
Actually we outrebounded Denver
And we got more shot attempts than them as well. The problem is we just can’t play good perimeter defense for 48 minutes, which is compounded by the fact that the nugs have 3 solid iso players in Melo, Billups and JR. I don’t blame Roy for his offensive woes, I blame him for his sad sack effort on defense. He just didn’t rotate very well, and the problems began in the first quarter. I thought we actually did a pretty good job in the second half, it was just we couldn’t stop them in the first and second quarters at all.
"B-Roy is the best shooting guard I have played against"
-Ron Artest
Allowing Affalo to get his own rebound off a missed free throw
and not being able to get a dang rebound after we finally get them to miss…that was pathetic. I would venture to say that Denver had less rebounds than us, because their field goal shooting was so much higher than ours (59% to 42%).
Than wouldn’t that give them more rebounds.
The short one says to the tall one, "If I were you, I'd be tall."
The tall one replies, "No, if you were me, I'd be short."
After the 1st quarter, Nuggets knew they were going to win the game.
At no point did they feel any pressure. A couple of Blazer spurts, but Nuggets knew they could score whenever they wanted.

LOL
were you watching the same game as me? Look, as has been said here a few times defense was the problem and b-roy & LMA are 2/5 of that. They sure as heck didn’t help very much on offense (especially roy) and the 4th quarter was a complete waste to even have them on the floor.
offense was NOT the problem
denver shot 60%, roy had a horrible game on offense, but we lost the game at the defensive end

I don't feel that bad about this loss at all
Denver played well: shot well and defended well. Roy and Aldridge had off nights shooting. A bad combination equaling a loss.
I remembered why I stop reading gamethreads
"its tough to play with one eye, unless you're a pirate." Delonte West
"una canasta a Pau en la cara" Rudy
No need to bash commenters.
People are reacting to the play on the court. Emotional responses are to be expected. Most comments in the post-game are fair and reasonable.
Roy and Aldridge did not have just off nights shooting. They weren’t able to get comfortable in the offense. The Nuggets quickly doubled and rotated. Roy and Aldridge have yet to learn how to deal with aggressive double teams. They are making their decision too late. As far as their defense, well, let’s not speak of it again.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Who are you defending?
comments like “they didn’t care,” or “look what $150 million gets you,” both said repeatedly?
I’d say Aldridge made some good passes out of double teams. I’d say Roy got to the rim in spite of the double teams, but did not finish as well as he usually does nor get the calls he usually does. That’s what I saw.
I never referred to the defense. It was poor.
I’m not asking for gamethreads to change, I just don’t like them. They make me like basketball less

I'm not defending anyone in particular.
I was stating the context of the comments and why they are made. People are passionate and venting. I didn’t understand the need to complain about it if you already knew how game thread ends up.
With regard to Roy and LMA. The Nuggets did a good job of making Roy uncomfortable with the ball. Roy did get to the hoop a few times early, but the Nuggets adjusted by bringing double teams at various times. Roy looked unsure of where he could find an opening and it resulted in him settling for more jumpshots.
LMA’s problem is that he looks for the double team before it even comes. As if he made up his mind to pass the ball. At that point, the defense has won the mind game.

While I don't really disagree with a lot of that
You know Dave’s classic rule: Focus on the game, not the other users. Easier said that done sometimes, of course.

I do understand that feeling. In reality though, it’s no different than what you’d hear said around you during a bad home game.
who cares that we lossed
andre miller freakin dunked it.

I was watching at the gym and I started yelling at the announcers
Dead god the ESPN guys were terrible. They kept showing the replay of the Birdman “block” where all he got was arm and Hubie kept going on and on about what a great block it was. Ugh. Thankfully there was only one person in the gym so I only looked a little insane.
I knew it was a foul right away.
Based on Webster reaction and Birdman’s lack of celebration.

Offensively we had some good things to take away from this game
36 free throws, 56% from the 3 line, and only 9 turnovers. The 42% fg shooting was not great, but if we had played some semblance of decent defense, we would’ve had a chance to win this game. Denver shot 59% from the field. No way we were gonna win the game allowing Denver to shoot that efficiently.
It was a good confidence game for Bayless and Rudy
If those guys start rolling on the second unit we’ll be good
they both shot the ball great.
I really like how Bayless is getting scrappy on defense too. Like you said, hopefully, they’ll keep it up.
loved the fire from bayless and miller

Sac can be dangerous.
They are capable of shooting well and playing with energy. The hapless Wolves are beyond help.
"I'm at the thingamajig talking the yakety-yak" - Kenny Smith
Yep. Fine line between the Wolves and Kings.
But either way, it’s still hard to repeatedly beat a team in a short period of time.
I hope we miss the playoffs
Blazers would be better off not being in the playoffs and getting a better draft pick! This proves the Blazers have little chance to win in the first round. I would prefer that the Blazers miss the playoffs and draft a center, since our big men are injured often.
