I'm Tired

I am struggling to find the words to express my feelings about all this front office drama. All that comes to mind is I'm tired. Tired of people not focusing on the players . Tired of no Rudy dunks, Brandon dribble drives, LMA turnarounds and Batum swats or even discussion of each's limitations. I understand that the front office is critical to the success of the team but it's not fun.

Star-divide

The reason many people watch sports is to escape from the nastiness of office politics in our own lives.  The overwhelming discussion of issue's in a corporate structure, especially where we don't know what interactions there are really like, is soul draining. I am looking forward to a return to game discussions and basketball discussion some day here.

But the teeming hordes are not. We’ll likely have to deal with this till the Blazers win a really big game, like Dallas.

I feel the exact same way. Whether KP stays or goes at this point to me is irrelevant. Obviously I would like KP to stay and we as fans should back him in every way possible, but if making 100 fanpost’s that say the same exact thing is backing him than I’m not willing.

100% in agreement

I think it’s more of an “Internet” than a “Blazers” phenomenon: caffeine-fueled hordes hunched over their keyboards waiting to get set off by the latest crisis or perceived slight. The Blazers just have a large horde.

But yeah, for me it’s not fun – not the actual reality of whatever politics are going on, nor the frantic jumping-to-conclusions and gnashing of teeth you see on here.

It’s just basketball, let’s enjoy it…

Pretty darn well actually

if you’re talking about the team and the record.

Not so well for the fans.

"Fernandez, to my eyes, is the Blazer who walks that walk most comfortably. A lot of Portland's fans (egged on, dare I say, by their local broadcasters) lament things like how Ron Artest or Yao Ming get to hit Brandon Roy's arms.

But I suspect Fernandez sees all that and thinks: We get to hit arms! Cool!"

oh man, the parallels

Allen sells Blazers to owner of Stumptown coffee.
Stumptown owner can’t get rose garden renovated, sells to out of town owner from Lincoln Nebraska.
Lincoln owner promises to keep team in town, but his wife works for the Lincoln newspaper (if they even have one) and sows the seeds of change.
Owner guts the team and drafts high school seniors with his first pick for three years in a row.
Nate McMillan doesn’t get renewed, team throws in the towel and moves…

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2014 NBA champs, the Lincoln Cornholers.

Gotta win mos def...

if they lose, the whole team will be inundated by reporters with “Has the front office drama distracted you?” and “Is this team focused on the playoffs?”

The timing of this debacle couldn't be worse for us

…this thing pops up in the stretch where the Blazers play like 3 games in two weeks, and just after other locals sports scandals had just finished…the next game can’t come soon enough.

My vote is

that we stop letting it be a distraction for us. Come on people, we are professionals, right? Professional fans know that they may be upset by a management issue, but they can’t let that get in the way of supporting the team.

I would like to see LMA put up 28 and 15 on Dirk. Oh and if you want to get into Dirks head during the game, chant “sprechen zie deutch, Dirk” over and over again. If we could get the whole crowd doing it, I am guessing that he finishes with 7 points. Of course he speaks German, but after about 15 minutes of that he will not be able to remember his mother’s name. Certain Victory!!!!

I, personally, love this stuff

Jerryd Bayless is boring, and that goes for the rest of the clean living Trail Blazers. When the best you’ve got on the guy is that he can’t shoot from the arc, how fun is that? Thank god for Big Oden’s member.
They’re in eighth place. When they barely got by GSW and the Bullets, during their last streak, well, a fool’s gold run, it seemed to be.

In the face of what is likely, an early playoff exit, this front office melodrama really stokes the fire.

Aren’t the Vulcans only there to further PA’s stated interests? They are his Mr. Smiths, are they not?

I agree

I posted as much in response to “A team gone wrong”.

“I don’t know. To be honest I’m tired. And Sports as entertainment isn’t suppose to make you tired. It’s suppose to be "fun" diversion. I really thought we had moved past the years where The Blazers were primarily a local Soap Opera. Where the discussion was based on non-basketball related actions.”

I don’t know who to blame, I suspect it’s a little of everyone and everything. It’s the media, it’s the franchise, and it’s the fans.

While I too get tired, and am tired, it’s a double edged sword. The fanatical support The Blazers get, the microscopic attention is part of the fabric of being a Blazer fan. It’s a dsyfunctional relationship, but it is part of the equation.

I have family members that have moved away from Oregon. When they visit they are always amazed at the coverage The Blazers get in comparison to sports teams from there newly adopted states. My Dad even once commented that did I realize in San Diego they pretty much just reported on The Players and The Games.

I get tired of it, but I don’t know if I really would want it any other way. The ridiculously high standards of Blazer fans, the microscopic attention, the passion and fury that attends to The Blazers, creates the enviroment of Soap Opera BUT also is a part of what makes being a Blazer fan so great.

Yes, in most cities I think the firing of Tom Penn and the comments of an agent for a GM would be met with a morning swig of coffee and a big yawn. In Portland? It launches a wild fire of speculation and angst…..tiring….but almost a genetic part of following The Blazers.

Having said this, I don’t know if we could of avoided most of this attention. The firing of Tom Penn was sudden and timed badly. The following comments made by Penn and Pritchards mutual agent were kindling to an always ready to burn media. The Blazers “let’s calm everyone down” Press Conference was a blue print for how to get everyone riled up. This whole exercise has been like watching someone try to put out a fire with firehoses filled with gasoline.

If the team can play well, and make some noise in the post season, I think this will die down. Once the season and post season end….it will all re-awaken, given Larry Millers post-ponement of any real answers with the now fabled…“We will evaluate at the end of the season”.

I suggest we all take Larrys advice…The Blazers can evaluate at the seasons end…and so can we fans. I’m tired…but I’ll be watching intently this post season to try and get a feel as to what condition the management of this team is really in.

"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"

I don't wanna burst your bubble... but I have no choice

A lot of people ARE interested in this “Stuff”

In fact I would venture to say the majority of people ARE, and of the people on Blazersedge, I’d guess closer to 90% of people are.

I understand why you are not. And I think that is great for all of you who agree with him. In fact I’m jealous. I wish I didn’t care about the future of my franchise like you don’t just so I don’t have to listen to the bad news. If you truly don’t care about TP and potentially KP getting fired and the reprocussions that will come, including the revealing stories about Paul Allen (our OWNER) that are bound to come out…well…I really have to question your long-term devotion to the Blazers franchise as a whole.

I think there is a big difference between...

…and choosing to support the TEAM while having the wisdom to know there is nothing we can do about the “front office” drama now. My Mother taught me that 90% of the things you worry about never come true and the other 10% you can do something about. Therefore I choose to not litter my life with fret and fear over things I cannot control. That doesn’t mean I don’t care about what happens in the future… Just means I’m not going to fear it.

I further would submit that questioning someone’s committment to the Blazers while judging their leadership based on spotty information provided by the likes of Canzano, AWoj, Jaynes etc.. is kind of the, “Frog calling the Bass a Big Mouth”.

Question my long term devotion all you like but I’ve been a fan since the first year of the Blazers and will continue to be one… will you?

GO BLAZERS!!!

(not angry)

I’m smart enough to know what to believe what I hear on the radio and what I read in the newspapers.

Sure there’s nothing we can do about the front office situation, just like there’s nothing we can do about the Martell Webster’s inconsistency. But I’m not going to just ignore the situation because I can’t so anything about it. I want to be informed on every aspect of the team so I can make my own assessment as to what I believe is just.

The casual fan watches the games and judges the team based on performance. The devoted fan pays attention to every decision made, front office or not, and judges every level of the franchise and either supports the decisions or doesen’t. Information is power. Bottom line: You are in the minority if you don’t care about this topic. And if that is the case, this is the wrong place to write about it, there aren’t many “casual” fans around here.

(Not angy either)

So I am not as “devoted” of a fan as you are because I care more about a great win…like last nights… then I do about what Canzano and Simmons are saying about the Blazers? I think you’re confusing “not paying attention” with “not coming to the same conclusion you are”. I have read the same stories and heard the same news conferences you have… I just don’t think it’s as big of an issue as some do and I realize that ranting and raving about it will not change it anyway.

Bottom line: You are in the minority if you don’t care about this topic. And if that is the case, this is the wrong place to write about it, there aren’t many "casual" fans around here.

Whether I am in the minority or not I will read and comment on this blog any time I want to. If you are suggesting that only people who agree with the majority have the right to post here…maybe it’s you that are in the wrong place.

I have been a “devoted” Blazer fan for 40 years… It makes you sound a little arogant to assume you can classify me as “casual” based on your own personal set of standards. If I didn’t , “want to be informed on every aspect of the team” I wouldn’t be here reading this blog and spending time answering your response.

You are correct…there aren’t many casual fans around here. But there are differences of opinion. Ours are different. That doesn’t make one better than the other… just different.

Huge Effort… Huge Win last night… keep it going!

GO BLAZERS!!!
