TO PAUL ALLEN
Mr. Allen,
I do not know what happened regarding Tom Penn, nor do I really care. I only care about the Trailblazers in their run for a championship. You have made some excellent decisions in the recent past: Removing the jailblazers quickly, hiring KP, Nate, drafting Roy, Aldridge, Batum, Rudy, Bayless, and Oden (he will be healthy someday, we all hope), singing Howard, Miller, and the 'out of options' trade for Camby. I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you made another good decision by letting Penn go regardless of the timing. (continued after the jump)
However after seeing and hearing a dispirited and disheartened Kevin Pritchard at the news conference, something is terribly wrong. If KP was part of something illegal, unethical, or even very irresponsible then he should start looking for a new job. If this was about disagreements or something even more trite, then please intelligently consider all options without making a hasty decision. KP was also part of every great decision that I noted above. I know it was not him alone making these decisions, but he was the face that was put out in front of the fans.
While you are considering the future of the franchise, please let me offer some advise: Do not listen to the speculative media...without good editors these days, their 'sources' could be the guy asking for change outside the parking garage. Do not listen to your vulcanized 'yes' men/women...they are trained monkeys. Do not listen to other NBA executives or their agents...they are only out for themselves and do not care about you, the fans, or the city of Portland (especially the slimy Mark Warkentien).
Listen to the fans. I realize that financially we offer the least in this equation (although advertising is directed at us), but we are not in it for the business side. We are in it because we love the Portland Trailblazers (including you, KP, Nate, the team, and everyone else). We are the ones that chant "BEAT L.A." at the top of our lungs, yell at the refs because of a bad call or no call (or sometimes the correct call), humorously chastise other players from the 'Birdman' to Garnett, keep our eyes fixed on every pass, shot, steal, block, deflection, etc., remain at our seats until the final whistle regardless of the score, and most importantly look to make sure that you are in your usual seat cheering right alongside all of us...especially in these difficult days.
Yes the fans are completely irrational and sensitive, but they bring more passion and energy than all of the executives working alongside you, with the notable exception of Kevin Pritchard.

Here, here
Funny, I sat down to right a “Dear Mr Allen” letter and found that it had already been written.
- I hope the folks up in Seattle are listening.
- I hope LeGarie shuts his pie-hole before he does any more damage.
- I Warkentien and Wojnarowski each come down with an extended case of hives.
- I hope Blazer fandom rises up in a roar.
- I hope Oden comes back and stuffs the words back down the throats of the doubters.
- Above all, I hope that “my team” doesn’t implode. This town needs the Blazers, and the Blazers need this town. Pay attention Mr. Allen.

KP isn't perfect, but he's done an excellent job
of re-building (in rapid time at that) a roster that was a leaguewide joke. To put on the dog and pony show that was yesterday’s press conference and let a prominent executive twist in the wind while management’s representative (Miller) alternates between giggling and making cliched statements was disgusting. Money can buy a lot of things – ridiculous yachts, apartments in the rafters of an arena, stupid museums that nobody wants to visit – but it can’t buy character. I don’t care what KP did or may have done, for Paul Allen and his Vulcan ilk to allow this fiasco to happen tells me more about them than I ever wanted to know.

What?
Not once in the main message or in any responses does someone call him the best owner in sports. Is this just a general question?
I assume it was a general hypothetical question
The “best owner” meme has been with us ever since KP arrived, ironically

The man has been willing to spend $/go for the home run deal if it's available
but unfortunately, this has been followed up with spastic Vulcan contortions (to list a few: mass firings of employees during the Steve Patterson era, the bankruptcy/moving threats, and the current disaster with KP). He’s moved from one of the best to spoiled child with a toy in my mind

I agree - the whole Vulcan empire is a reflection of how PA does business
A piss poor reflection at that. Steinbrenner without the savvy, smh

It’s one of the privelages of wealth & fame, you make decisions and nobody can
question you. Hence, the COINCAST CABLE deal. Errrrrr, RAW Deal !!

I sure hope they can beat Dallas…!
I don't see how you can speak as to the passion and fandom of his executives. They may be just as
passionate and die hard as you but have different ideas. If they are not as passionate, maybe they can look at the situation a little more objectively than some silly fan that cares about whether KP is feeling OK…Screw KP in fact…there are 10 guys out there who can do it just as good or better.

Paul Allen isn't reading this
but if you’re really that upset and want to do something worthwhile, you should boycott everything Blazers

Both of you (pooty or the ghostofsomeonefamous) mis-understood the message, but thanks for sharing.

Agree wholeheartedly!
Well said; the only thing missing for me was an expression of my anger watching KP and Miller dangle in the wind at the “informal” press conference. I’ve renewed my season tickets for next year but that will be the last time unless this whole “management thing” turns back to a positive direction. Whoever was responsible for this management fiasco needs to own up and either support the employees or fire them and move on.
