Northern Iowa Defeats Overall Top Seed Kansas
#9 seed Northern Iowa Panthers defeated the overall #1 seed Kansas Jayhawks 69-67.
Proof that being an underdog can be a very motivating thing.
Let's hope the Blazers pull off a nice upset in the first round.

all these upsets in the NCAA
A sign from the basketball gods that the Blazers will win the championship, or something.

Reminds me of the 1981 OSU Beavers...
…and Ralph Miller’s best team losing to Kansas State (one of my five most horrifying basketball losses: the others being OSU in 1980, the Blazers in the ’91 conference finals, the sixth game of the ’92 Finals, and the last game of the ’00 conference finals).
Northern Iowa
YES!!! I’m actually live in Northern Iowa, and played some high school football in the UNIdome. Way to go purple panthers!!!!!
I've got a long time friend (from Cincy Red's chat pages) who's a UNI alumn
and I just sent him a congratulatory note

Where the biggest upset of the tournament has just taken place, a bunch of short ugly white kids have just knocked off the best team in the country and ruined everyone’s bracket!

there is a HUGE leap in difficulty
between an underdog winning a single game, and an underdog winning 4 of 7. The NBA really doesn’t want the lower seeds to win. It’s why they got rid of the 3 game series back in the early 80s, and the 5 game series about 10 years ago.
"I want to be traded to a contender" is almost always code-speak for "I'm a loser."

Man, just think about how awesome a 1 game playoff in the NBA would be. Even if just for the 1st round.
1st round – 1 game. Do or die. Put up or shut up. Go big or go home. A 74 win season means NOTHING if you don’t win that first game.
2nd and 3rd round – Best of 3 series. Favors the better team by a bit but not by such a wide margin as a 7 game series.
NBA Finals – best of 5 series – Favors the better team by more, but still not as grueling as a 7 game series.
Ahhh, a man can dream.

I want a best of thirteen series.
So we can humiliate the Lakers over and over again. I’ll wake up later.
Wearing the black band for Jarrett Jack, Ime Udoka, Fred Jones, Sergio Rodriguez, Channing Frye, Luke Schenscher, Shavlik Randolph, James Jones, Josh McRoberts, Steven Hill, Jarron Collins, Michael Ruffin, Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw. Sacrificed to the unmerciful god of progress.
This destroys my bracket, but I got Kentucky winning all, so it's not a total disaster.

Suffice it to say
this has NOT been a good week for KP.

um, did you mean WE'RE the 9th seed?
btw, I meant any underdog, whether we’re the 8th seed, 7th seed, or 6th seed.

then we play the 0 seed and we can kill them.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
it's possible it would be a close series
since the 0 seed never suffers injuries

Kalin Lucas...
Tom Izzo just said 99% chance he misses the rest of the tournament, came down awkwardly on it during the game – non contact. UNI’s chances just went up to make it to the Elite 8
