Umm, has anoyone noticed the washington win gaurantees us a winning season for the third year in a row?
After all the talk from Ban and Dave about how horrable the Washington game was(and rightfully so) i started checking stats and just being a general stat geek. I notice that, despite a horrable game we now have 42 wins. It was only roughly just under three seasons ago we wished for a 42-40 record.
Please understand i don't mean to chastise or anything even close, this last game was ROUGH. My goal is to point out the as yet unseen positives of were we currently sit. Throw out the game we just played, if you can, and we are 42-28.....WAY over .500. We sit at #8 and very close to #5 (1.5 games separate us and OKC) We have gone through more than any other team could want to save for the Warriors and we have shown more heart than i have seen from a blazer team maybe ever. I think about the Pippen/ Sabonis/ B Grant teams and the Drexler era teams and wonder, which era teams have more heart? (I'm too young for anything pre drexler, sorry)
I will include a poll i think to see what you all think, i will vote for this team personally. Those other teams (from memory) never went through the type of stuff this team has seen this year, Injuries, huge expectations, front office firings, etc, etc. We are supremely fortunate to sit where we do as we all wake up this morning. We have a top 10 PG, a top 3 SG, our SF is a stud defensively and young, our PF who some call soft is still a very good player, AND we now have a legit center in Camby, throw in our bench and this is a very good team. I know some will call Camby a PF who plays center but this is semantics imo. And lastly, as bad as that game was Roy still won it for us. Again, roughly three seasons ago what would anyone of you have given to say to your self "they are down one, get it to <name> and he will win it for us". Fast forward to now and after rookie of the year, three all-star appearances, 2nd team all NBA, and lord knows how many game winners, we have that guy!
I personally love where we are today, good or bad. Just my thought.

Bah! my bad
I guess since we were so bad before that year for several years i have allways looked at going 41-41 that year as a win, but point noted.

the bar has been raised.
expectations are higher now than three years ago, and rightfully so.
winning 42 games and grabbing a low playoff seed does not make a successful season.
I get your point, but I’m looking forward, not back. Playing the type of ball we played last night this late in the season is a big red flag.
"I want to be traded to a contender" is almost always code-speak for "I'm a loser."

I hear ya douglast
but the thing is we arent ending the year today, we have 10+ games left and could go on a hot streak and end at 50 wins and maybe a 6 or even 5 seed, is this probable? no……but we are still in great position to do so. Last nights play was disturbing but that was after 4 days off and a let down was not out of the ordinary…..that was bad last night but not something we cant look past, rock it the rest of the way and go hard into the playoffs.
Yes, i am an optimist lol

Agreed.
Even with what has happened this year, anything less than a 6 or 7 game series in the 1st round will be a major disappointment. If they can pull an upset and get into the 2nd round, job very well done.
They don’t hand out hardware for consecutive seasons of 41+ wins.

Is the ball we played in a previous 10 games
A green flag? Bah, I need a good freakout anyhow.

Not to criticize but I've seen a lot of heart this year
but not nearly as much as I’d like. There have been games this year where we look like we didn’t care, and not just I were hoping to see more from the team. Last years team had more heart than this years for sure, but I am very happy with the way the team is coming together now and despite the rough season, how much heart has been shown.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
But we did surpass Simmons preseason prediction of 41 wins
Despite the ridiculous number of injuries
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
Pippon?
Who is this Pippon you speak of, and to answer your question, NO! It is my post and i will use Pippen if i choose (said tongue in cheek)

more importantly,
if we beat phx 2morrow, things will be looking much better.
spurs have a high chance of losing, because the play vs. atlanta. so we would be in 7th place and 1/2 game behind phx for 6th spot; and we would hold the tie breaker against both phx and san antonio.
I voted Pippen era because I remember how Pippen went into the most pressure packed games and played
like it was nothing because he had 6 rings.
Wait
we’ve had Roy for four years, made it to the playoffs once, and automatically it’s an “era?” Drexler was around longer and alot more successful. Let’s see what our Roy-led Blazers accomplish first before we hail them a success.
