Blazers win!

I believe that in true Darryl Dawkins fashion he was going to dub it the Miller-Time Pop-Top Rammin' Jammin' That's-For-TiH-and-his-Spammin' Thunderdawg Special. Unfortunately it got blocked. unreal. Can’t believe how bad the Blazers played…at least we escaped with a win.

Cant hit the broad side of the ocean all game(happens to EVERYONE) but still hit the game winner. Well played Roy, well played sir.

The definition of great is putting away a lousy team in the first quarter and letting your third string run a layup line for the rest of the game :P

Ideally yes
However things are rarely ideal unless it is the best of times for the team……..i would say that being “clutch” qualifies during any kind of rough patch much less the season our team is experiencing. Just my thought

Plus, you're going to have to find lots of ways to win over the course of a season.
Ideally, elite teams dispose of inferior competition easily. However, every team—Cavs, Lakers, Nuggets, etc.—have games where they struggle more than they probably should. Finding ways to win even those games is important.
3 hours of sleep last night, two extra caffeine filled coffees,
and a last second shot vs the WIZARDS makes my 24 year old heart feel a lot older….

So I missed everything but the last 2 minutes
was it really that bad?

Is this going to be a running commentary tonight?
First, he pivoted on the foot after picking up the ball, he didn’t slide it. Replay showed that.
Second, even if he did, it could be the lamest travel called in the final 5 seconds of an NBA game in the last 10 years.

With tonight’s win, Nate McMillan tied Mike Dunleavy for third place on Portland’s all-time head coaching win list (190).
But it’s also the first win of the Trail Blazers with a FG% smaller than 33% since November 1990 (then against Sacramento). They lost 15 other such games since then.
And,
ya gotta love the Dunleavles!

Tonight was more about Nate's system than individual substitutions
The 2nd half showed the problem with Nate’s isolation oriented offense. If Roy’s shot isn’t falling, everyone else is in an awkward position because they don’t know how or when to take over. All the standing around and watching only works when Roy is carrying the team. The general lack of energy also makes me wonder if he’s losing their ears. He keeps saying they need to run and play with more energy, but they never seem to respond.

I feel like Nate should have shortened the rotation tonight
And I also feel like it would have helped to bring Dante in for stretches. He’s completely dropped off the radar screen. In my opinion, there is no excuse for playing Juwan for 19 minutes against the Wizards, especially when Dante can bring some of that energy which the blazers were sorely lacking.

reviewing my post,
I realized I’m actually contradicting myself. I think the rotation minutes were ok, it was just that Dante should be in the rotation instead of Juwan.

still think Nic needs more time.
he basically plays first 6 minutes of each half, then comes back mid to late 4th. why not give him the minutes Webster is getting at the start of the 2nd and 4th?
if Rudy is going to miss any time, i would suspect/hope that Nic gets a longer run in the 1st and 3rd before giving way to martell. we will likely see Bayless pick up the backup 2 minutes rudy is getting and batum/marty split the minutes rudy is now getting at the 3 spot.

agree on Dante
much worse was playing Howard over Dante back in that GS game last week. NO sense at all.
Basically, in my mind. if we need a guy to guard someone down low, sure go with Howard. But if not, Dante is probably a better option all the way around. tonight, it seems like at least TRYING to get an energy boost from Dante in the 2nd half was worth a look.

Seriously, can’t wait to see what he has to say. I’d hate to have to write a professional recap for a game like this.

yikes, this one sounds bad...
I got to a radio just in time to hear Roy’s game winner…individually, did anyone even play ok?
Batum. And Camby and LaMarcus crashed the boards pretty good. Juwan had a good game for his standards.
Batum was nonexistent
I don’t blame him for his missed 3’s, but saying he had a good game when he didn’t register much at all except for rebounding 7 of 53 Portland boards seems like stretch.

Didn’t realize he missed so much, I probably didn’t watch closely anymore. And they only credited him for 1 block for what felt like 3-4.
I think he only had one legit block
Or was it two. Huh. Too bad I already deleted the game because I figured I wouldn’t watch it again.
Honestly, I think Rex looked great tonight.
Marcus Camby was a BEAST on the boards and on the end where it matters. Rex played some great D, and did a decent job. Other than that, well.. Not so much. Webby looked decent.

Yes
I watched it in slow motion, he switched pivot feet.
I always watch end of game shots in slow motion, it lets me absorb the impact better.
We'll have to remember this next time we wonder if he gets superstar calls
He traveled on a game winner. I’m not sure if this makes it worse, but he and the whole team had stunk before then, so if I were a Wiz fan I’d feel like we’d come back and OT was taken away. I’m taking you for your word since I didn’t watch it except the few replays they showed right after and those were at normal speed.

And again, even if it had been, that travel isn't called anymore, period
Let alone in the last 5 seconds with a star player shooting.

Elias sports bureau says it's Portland's lowest-ever FG% in a win (via AGDuck from Blazers Communications)
I only could go back to 1986 with basketball-reference, and there the previous low was 33% in November 1990 vs. Sacramento as written above. Which all-time is now the second-lowest low. We have reached a new winning low ;)
I know Nate's tightening the rotation, but on a night like tonight
when everyone sucks, why not let Dante sniff the floor, see if he can hit a jumper. What could it hurt?
At least we won...........

Yep, Dean said the RG fans just weren't there for the team like they usually are.
I was there and cheered when there was anything to cheer about. Which, wasn’t much. I couldn’t believe my ears when Dean D. said this. Really…many many crowds would have been booing actively during this game.
Did Deano expect the RG fans to get all up about blowing a 16 point lead slowly but surely..against the worst team in the NBA???
AND on top of the drivel that was coming out of his mouth I noticed that the tempo of his speech was annoying me.
End of the 4th
I’m normally a big fan of Batum, but I thought he had a some significant lapses this game. When the bulk of the lead was lost in the 4th, it’s because he kept lofting those 3s which lead to fast breaks (or quick Foye shots) where the defense didn’t have a chance to get set properly. To his defense, he was wide open, but we didn’t need the 3, we needed some buckets.
And yes, i know this is just one of MANY MANY failures tonight….
Those were wide open shots
I say let him take those when they are wide open no matter what the game situation. Have faith, he has been hot.
by IndustrialRevolution on Mar 19, 2010 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions
he has to take those shots
that’s his role in the offense. let Roy penetrate, be ready to shoot off the kickout when your man doubles down.
that’s the shot our offense is designed to create. he’s a 40+ percent shooter from there. he would get (rightly so) chastised and probably benched for not taking those shots.
if you don’t like the shot selection there, don’t blame Nic, blame the offensive schemes we employ.
