Around SBN: 2011 In Extreme Home Runs

Saw this today and thought it was interesting. I tend to agree that Roy should be more selfish and attack on every posession if possible. Sounds like Kobe has told Roy the same thing. What do all of you think? Is Roy selfish enough? Too selfish?

The way Roy just took over in game 1 last year impressed me. It showed me what he can do when he just decides to be selfish

and score, too bad we lost. Game 2 also showed even more of that. I’m fine with him being passive now. But playoff time, he better shot 20-25 shots.

Where Brandon goes the Blazers will follow

We’re still getting valid criticism for being soft. I like the idea of Roy being more aggressive. Maybe some of that will rub off on his boys.

More than the teams leading scorer

I want Roy to fully accept the role of leadership. If there are hot hands that are getting it done I would rather Roy try and facilitate that and go for the assists/playmaking rather than get selfish and try and make points for his jersey number.

However if no one else is stepping up I absolutely love that Roy can do this with the best. I do think Roy can play both of these roles, more so than many other stars.

I second that amen

I would love it if Roy scored 40 a night, lets just hope 25 of that comes out of some form of team offense. Jordan scored huge for years, he did not win a title until he had the talent/coach around him to get those points out of good offensive sets…

Roy hs the goods to be a great scorer, he also is a good decision maker, setting his team mates up…

Aggressiveness is the key, scoring or assisting, I will take either, but set the tone. I like the 2 games where Roy just trounced the opposition in the first half and the rest of the team killed them in the 2nd half. nice thing about it is Roy can step at any point in that scenario and be the difference maker, easing off until the second half could mean things ae too far out of reach…

Dude.

Kobe to Roy:

"He and I were talking over All-Star break, and I told him I don’t know of any player outside of myself that has no weaknesses besides him. If you think about it, he can go left and pull up and shoot. He can go right and pull up and shoot. He can fade left shoulder, he can fade right shoulder. He can shoot the long ball. He can finish at the rim. He can shoot free throws. He has no weaknesses in his offensive game; so if that’s something he wants to do, he can easily do it."

High praise. Yeah BRoy.

Brandon "Nasty" Roy

this would not be such a bad thing, for his on-court persona

I loved Batum’s smirk the other night…

If Roy can get that look down watch out…it is the kind of look you gotta feel to pull off…

Shouldn't Broy already know he needs to go hard every game?

He’s old enough to have learned that already. I’m sure all of his coaches past and present loved that article. He’s right though, be more aggressive, and play hard every quarter. No weakness except the occasional pull up for three that invariable misses.

Basket's that way, Chief!

"Can me and Kevin Durant even coexist?" Roy said. "We’re similar. We’re both creators. We are both perimeter players. I don’t know if there is enough room for both of us."

Agreed. Durant would’ve been stuck in the corner “doing a Portland” in Nate’s system. Kevin wouldn’t have gotten the chance to do his thing until Brandon went down with his bad hammy. Blazer fans would be calling Durant “soft”—just like LMA

if he said "man durant and i would kill it together"

that wouldn’t be a good thing. it would 2nd guess management and be pretty demotivating to the guy they did draft. roy is smart enough to know there are the right things to say and the wrong things to say. sure he slipped up early in the season around the blake / miller thing but not saying he’s happy they have greg oden would be a whole other category of bad.

the idea that durant would not be a focal point if he were with the blazers is pretty silly. by the way.

yeah, Kevin would've been the next Rashard Lewis

I have faith in Nate’s system to pigeonhole players into well-defined parameters

(not that there’s anything wrong with that…)

I heard Brandon say "I’d love to play with ____ " In the past. If anything, he’s too honest.

Koaby ♥'s Roy

Full of praise, that Kobi. He had a lot of very nice things to say about Roy.

I don’t know of any player outside of myself that has no weaknesses besides him. If you think about it, he can go left and pull up and shoot. He can go right and pull up and shoot. He can fade left shoulder, he can fade right shoulder. He can shoot the long ball. He can finish at the rim. He can shoot free throws. He has no weaknesses in his offensive game; so if that’s something he wants to do, he can easily do it.

I mean, wow. “I don’t know of any player outside of myself that has no weaknesses besides him.” I mean… wow.

I loved this:

Camby reminded Roy of that the other night.
"Who cares if you miss?" Camby told him. "Shoot again."

for the fact that the vet supports Roy being the man and as if to say “I’ve got your back.” Also some great praise from Kobe. He didn’t say that about LeBron or Wade, he said that about Roy…awesome

We'll miss you #2 & #25!

Howard did the same thing

after the Camby trade, Juwan sat Roy down and told him that he was the man, and that if Brandon felt that he had to say anything critical to say to “anyone” on the team, that he shouldn’t pull any punches

Which ever way goes Roy’s hammy, so go the Blazers.

Right now, it’s starting to look good.
Gotta love the tribute being paid.

Romance me with that Roy rainbow shot which took flight from way beyond the arc and sailed so high that before it came back down to earth sealing the victory, it kissed the rafters and said "You're mine baby."

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
