Only slightly better. And he stunk it up against GS, with 6 turnovers. Bosh is def. the better player, but I’m not too worried about it. I’ll stick with Aldridge.

Yeah, Nate sat LA just long enough to let him cool way down. I really hate it when he does
And I don't think LA was in foul trouble. Took him out mid 2nd qtr and through 1/2 time...plus time outs..what is that..about 45 mins or so? What was he thinking? I can see resting Camby as Camby is older but LA? What is he..24? And he was HOT in the first 1/2 till he was pulled out!!!!!!!

Obligatory "I don't like 4th quarter isos" comment

Seriously, in the first half there was tons of motion off the ball, they were running and Rudy was handling it well and creating for others. Then in the 3rd quarter when Dre went out Bayless was the PG and Rudy ran off picks without getting passes. Neither Rudy or Rex is a pure pg, but when one of them is passing like Rudy was tonight you have him keep running the offense when Dre isn’t on the court.

Didn't Bill Simmons say at the start of the season Portland would go 41-41 this year. He said they overachieved too.

Dude needs to be beaten with his crappy book for every prediction he gets wrong. I guess that’d be like a death penalty though.

by BRoyInThe4th on Mar 14, 2010 8:38 PM PDT reply actions

What's even better is...

Simmons didn’t even consider the nightmarish injury bug that Portland has had to endure this season and they still are going to surpass his silly prediction.

This is what he said

If they won 54 or more games he’d make Dre his twitter background and if they won 41 or fewer Blazer fans had to make their background Dre with a photoshopped 41-41 jersey. At the time I pointed out it wasn’t an over/under since there was a giant middle ground, and if they won between 42-53 nothing would happen either way.

The ponit is he didn't really believe they would win 41

when push came to shove he thought they’d win between 42 and 53. But that and saying Durant is better than Oden makes him a Blazer hater and idiot.

Even though he is right on both accounts?

We WILL win between 42 and 53 games and Durant pretty clearly IS a better player than Oden.

Denial is fun

But in Oden’s only “healthy” season he played 61 games. He missed another entirely and had a rather severe injury this season too. These extend back into college and even high school too: Oden gets hurt a lot more than the average player.

and i don’t particularly disagree with your point. It’s just that at some point we may reach a moment where it becomes clear that having Durant would be better even with the position difference.

by thomasikehara on Mar 14, 2010 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Huh?

I’m not arguing for either one here, I think both can be very good players that can help their teams win titles. Always did. And we needed a center knowing both could be great, so the decision is hard to criticize from what was known. The problem with Greg right now is that he is great on a per-minute basis, but that won’t help him when he has injuries or foul trouble. So for the moment, of course Durant would help more. Even freaking Joakim Noah would help more. But that can change next year very well.

by Norsktroll on Mar 14, 2010 9:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I subscribe to that thought...

Oden was the right pick… Would I do it again now? My heart says yes, even logic to a degree.. But, Durant is quickly making his way to superstardom.. The guy can make a run for the best in the league.. Even Lebron had issues staying with the dude..

It’s pretty simple to me.. injuries aside… Durant may very well just be the better player, flat out.

But he said he makes a few bold predictions or else it’s boring and what’s the point? As I said, when people actually prodded him he said they’d finish between 42 and 53. I get that he liked Durant over Oden and said Dre would have trouble integrating (which was true, they’re playing together now but him and Roy weren’t earlier) but this is like the Daily Show going after Fox News.

Incredibly, Portland plans on bringing Miller off the bench. He’s already miserable. (And available, by the way. Make Kevin Pritchard an offer. Seriously, call him right now.) So what did we learn? When everyone was healthy they had trouble playing together

And they did bring Dre off the bench for a while and he yelled at Nate. After we had injuries the middle was open for Roy and Dre, a pecking order was simplified and everyone started doing whatever it took to win and played more like a team.

i have a question

does KP win executive of the year award??

andre has been the best off-season acquisition of the year so far, plus with all the injuries, the depth of the team withstanding it

I have no idea

but Warkentein said that there are other teams that are jealous because Portland’s owner is like an ATM machine when it comes to leveraging deals…that kind of critism works against KP

Worst Blazer of the night:

Bayless.

As a team our defense was crappy, though Bayless looked like he was the hardest/cared the most, working on defense.

In Bayless I trust.

Bayless looked like he was the hardest/cared the most, working on defense.

Jerryd played Calderon too closely, and Jose blew right by him on several occasion

Bayless will learn, there’s no doubt that he “cares”

BTW…there’s no need to cite the “worst Blazer of the night” after the team has just won

after we lose

there’s no way to hold back the tide with your fingers

plenty of finger-pointing and blame to go around, so the “worst” Blazer stands out less because of all the angst

usually Nate gets the lion’s share

what a great game…one of the best I’ve seen this year…LMA dunk was unbelievable…the crowd around me kind of gasped and then went nuts….Batum’s quiet confidence…and Rudy’s ball handling was some of the highlights for me…

the crowd around me kind of gasped and then went nuts

I saw a similar play back in the ’80s where Porter threw Drexler a lob that looked too wide, but Clyde reached back and slammed it through in one motion…gasp-silence-pandemonium

I was there

That was awesome! Rudy does like to lob to bigs but it was nice to actually be there for once!

BTW – The Hedo hate actually got kinda annoying after a while. I didn’t really care too much since I was one of the ones who was stoked he pulled out at the last second but still. Although the “Thanks for Andre Mrs. Turkoglu” sign was pretty hilarious, especially when they put it on the jumbotron!

by somanluna on Mar 14, 2010 10:30 PM PDT up reply actions

That sign should have been all the crowd did...just cheer for that sign. I was king of feeling

bad for Hedo after awhile. And really he did Portland a huge favor by not coming here. It would have been nice to not do anything..you know like..hey it doesn’t matter.

Time for a well deserved few days off. Team looks very solid right now..

yes, they actually seemed to be playing well together

Dre and Brandon good together, Batum great, Aldrich in “so you want Bosh ??!!” mode.
Good to have these memories to simmer for the rest of the week. Maybe another end of season burst is iminent. Martell looks like the odd man out. Hopefully Greg’s return won’t throw them off too much. Limited minutes could limit the impact. The psycohlogical factor of Oden showing up in the playoffs will be nice to observe. The Blazers keep it interesting.

"You be realistic," Oden said. "I’m going to stay happy. All right?"

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
