I want Dallas in the first round
I don't care that they added Haywood and Butler. Or that they won 13 in a row. They lost to the Knicks. At home. By 34. In March. This is a team that can be taken in a 7-game series.

I don't
For one, I’m a fan of both teams so I want them to avoid each other. And the Blazers and Mavs play twice more this season. By then, Carlisle will have figured out a way how to deal with Nate and Nic.
But it's a win-win for you...

I want the lakers in the first round.
we win, well..we win.
we lose, well, it was the lakers.

if you can take a full series of smug K*be-face and condescending P-Jack comments
then you’ve got a stronger constitution than I do
the mute button will be golden if Portland plays L*A on national TV…all that L*ker horse-pucky will be shoveled deep
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
yes, but if we actually beat them
It would be the most delicious first round sauce of all time, after that I don’t care if they lose 4 in a row. Beat LA and done…

no doubt about that
but the Blazers are 2-googleplex against L*A in the post season, and I’ve seen ’em all
so I’d rather rent a different flick

I'm with you on this one....
I don’t think I could take the Laker fans either….. but if they did manage to give them a fight, it would do a lot of good in terms of putting the Blazers in the spotlight with the media. It would be K*be vs BRoy…. always an interesting match-up. You know broy will be up for it.
Dallas, yeah, but OKC would be better
Especially if OKC was the 4 seed. Portland could come in Like Houston did last year and steal the first game from the starry eyed youngsters. It would be a nifty return of the favor. I personally think the match up would favor the more experienced Blazers. Plus, the Blazers would likely avoid an early match up w/ the Lakers in this scenario. Of course, I also believe in space aliens, and universal health care, so what do I know?
if we lost a series to OKC,
I think it would be worse than losing to the Lakers.

But it would be so nice to thrash
the new hottness.
Yup. It would hurt worse for me than losing to anyone else.

I wanted the Rockets last year and I was ever so wrong
I’m afraid if I picked this year, my approach would be, “Which team would I like the Blazers to lose to?”
I thought the spurs were the consensus for easy out last year
which proved to be true.
you and Dwight Jaynes, eh?
Before the series, Dwight thought that the Blazers matched up so well against the Rockets. I was like “did you watch any games between the 2 teams, this year?” Everyone was riding the wave of emotion as the team steamrolled through the final 20+ games of the regular season, but on the final day when NOLA lost to the Spurs and it was certain that Portland would be playing Houston, my responses were:
crap
Rockets in 6
It was no fun being right, but the lack of toughness and PG play were Portland’s downfall (oh yeah, that Ming guy was pretty good, too) If the Blazer could’ve just held on to win game 4 they would’ve proved me wrong and you and Jaynes right. But when push came to shove, Houston’s forwards out-scrapped Portland’s (and who couldn’t have seen that coming like a train wreck?)
I’ve got no preferences this year. Just play hard and let the chips fall where they may. The odds of advancing were flushed down the toilet when Greg and Joel went down, but I’d love it if the Portland’s geezer patrol finds a way to make things interesting in round 1, and helps the young bucks add “how to grind out playoff wins” to their portfolios this spring

I said I'd rather have anybody else on the road than the Rockets with home court
While I was able to talk myself into the Blazers winning before the series began, it ended (and began) just as I had feared. This season I feel that way about Utah, although the Mavs are close. Whatever the score it just seems like they play the Blazers well, Butler is inspired by not being on the Wiz anymore and Haywood in a contract year.

I didn't have any strategy, I just didn't trust Houston to get out of the first round
This year, my concerns are similar to two4larue’s from last year. I only like the point guard match up against LA and they got too many trump cards to compensate.
I'm a fairly strong believer in point differential being an indicator of a team's true standing.
Dallas is at +2.1, easily the lowest among the current West playoff teams.
Of course, the Blazers had (I think) the 2nd highest pt. differential among West playoff teams last year, and we saw what happened.

I agree with you about point differential cuz Hollinger says so. We just had bad luck last year. Playoff jitters against a big, hardened, playoff tested group of veterans that was tired of losing in the first round, with 2 elite wing defenders to stop Roy

It's better, but it's not as good as you might think.
Since the trade, they’ve had 13 wins and 2 losses. They’re point differential has only been +3.5 though. They’ve had 9 home games and 6 road games, with 7 of the 15 games against winning teams. They’re better, but not drastically better so far.
I hope you get Dallas as well
I hope the blazers play someone else…

reminds me of '85
I was a student in Dallas and standing in line to get tickets for the Mavs-Blazer playoff games. A Dallas fan was saying “I’m not worried about Portland, we’ll get L*A in round 2”
this was the “Audie Norris” series
The Blazers should have won game 1 (brutal call late in the game, Ro Blackman was unconscious) Then I got to see (and call) a great 10 point comeback by Portland in game 2. And I listened to the last 2 games from my dorm-room radio, the local feed went dead after the “atomic dog’s” shot went down. #24, forever in your heart
I wish I had run into that Mav’s fan, later. Revenge is a dish best served cold

worst point differential in the western playoffs
we want the mavs

I don't know if I agree with you.....
ask me after we play them at home twice with their new line-up…. On TNT for one of those games! And I get to hear Chuck say yet again that the Blazers are a jump shooting team and that is why they will be inconsistent….. every time…… without fail……. isn’t that what Dallas is though??? At least Brandon and Andre can play in the post.
The mavs have a ton of talent on their team to go along with a lot of experience...
I have a very hard time seeing the blazers winning any of the probable matchups. I think Utah is the least talented of the four, and even though I doubt the blazers could win the series, I lean towards them as the best matchup. I think Roy could have his way against them, the problem will be slowing down their offense. Its probably going to be a 6 game series no matter who the blazers draw…
