Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Interesting wish from sportswriter Frank Zicarelli

Maybe the boos that will rain on Hedo Turkoglu will knock some sense into the underachieving Raptors small forward, whose every step forward has been followed by three steps backward in Toronto.

On Sunday, Turkoglu makes his first trip to Portland, where the basketball faithful is among the most rabid and educated in the NBA.

Fans in Portland will air their feelings when Turkoglu has the ball in his hands, that much is certain. Deep down, they're probably grateful that Turkoglu didn't join the Blazers.

No punch gets pulled, no word gets minced in small markets such as Portland, where the spotlight is always on the NBA.

If I were there, I might light-heartedly boo.

But nothing close to what one hears when the Lakers are dribbling the ball up the floor.

Wearing the black band for Jarrett Jack, Ime Udoka, Fred Jones, Sergio Rodriguez, Channing Frye, Luke Schenscher, Shavlik Randolph, James Jones, Josh McRoberts, Steven Hill, Jarron Collins, Michael Ruffin, Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw. Sacrificed to the unmerciful god of progress.

Same here

I’d boo at the intro and then that would be about it.

by tominhawaii on Mar 13, 2010 1:27 PM PST up reply actions

Give him some Portland style

What’s more Portland than the Simpsons. I’d suggest a hearty D’oh! followed by an enthusiastic Haw-haw!

The definition of D’oh! – used to comment on an action perceived as as foolish or stupid. I’d say that about sums up the Turkaglue contract. The Haw-haw is just to rub in the fact that the Blazers didn’t get stuck with that albatross.

booing hedo

will just make him feel good. ignore him and he’ll know we’re thrilled he didn’t come here

hopefully he gets upset and starts chucking shots

I aint booing.

I never wanted that whipped dude here in the first place. Hard to boo if you don’t care.

I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

by haildablazer on Mar 13, 2010 10:51 AM PST reply actions

lol, no doubt

booing him will just make him feel as if he was really wanted here for that ridiculous price. A simple “meh” will suffice.

they look so good, thats why I keep em' in the front...

Blazer fans should cheer Turkoglu

Blazer fans should cheer for Turkoglu for saving KP from what would have been a really bad player acquisition.

by lsjogren on Mar 13, 2010 10:55 AM PST reply actions   1 recs

someone who's going to the game, preferrably seated in the lower bowl

needs to make a big “Thank you, Mrs. Turkoglu!!!” sign and get it on the TV camera

this has to happen, much better idea than booing Hedo

after all

Blazer fans should be expressing their relief and gratitude (not their displeasure) at Hedo turning down the FA offer

And what better way than with a new classic Blazer arena sign?

I will sleep well tonight, knowing I played a small part in accomplishing Blazer history

If I was a player, I would want the fans to boo me...

It would mean they were still pissed I didn’t come there, and I would try and step up my game to prove them right. Better that he doesn’t get any reaction at all, or people make the sign given above :)

by xncd on Mar 13, 2010 12:18 PM PST reply actions

I'm Cheering!

I was against going after him when I found out we were and was just thrilled when he bailed. We don’t need him on this team…Way over rated

by Ragermack on Mar 13, 2010 2:23 PM PST reply actions

Yes

Funnier if was cheered rather than booed.

by jrj on Mar 13, 2010 3:06 PM PST up reply actions

Seriously, we are so lucky Hedo went to Toronto

Miller has been better than Hedo this year, is making less money, hasn’t missed any games, and has a shorter contract. Not to mention Dre made the Camby trade possible (maybe salvaging the entire year), because there’s no way we do that trade if we don’t have Miller.

So who’s with me that Hedo turning us down was a blessing in disguise?

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

by axel360 on Mar 13, 2010 5:07 PM PST reply actions

Hedo would be taking minutes from Batum/Webster/Rudy/Cunningham

We would have even more of a log jam in the forward spots, cuz there is no way Hedo could man up rather than down.

by Sir.Ludo on Mar 13, 2010 6:26 PM PST up reply actions

Yep

And you could even make an argument that Batum (when playing) has been better than Hedo.

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

Last year i was playing 2k

Being magic, and hit a game winning 3 off of a comeback against the Blazers in the rose garden with Hedo.

Then went to the real game, and that happened.

This year im going to play as the raptors and make sure hedo has 10 turnovers, shoots 1-15 and the raptors get blown out.

by Bskey on Mar 13, 2010 10:05 PM PST reply actions

Whatever. If I was there I would cheer for him LOUD.

Seriously. I…love…Hedo…Turkoglu. Like, really love him. I will never BOO him. He saved us from a capspace nightmare.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
