Already Rec'ed.
I haven’t even made it through the whole thing, yet, but this is amazing.
"I just played my game. I didn't do anything special. Just take the open shot, make cuts to basket, get rebounds. That's it." ~Nic Batum
Having watched the whole thing...
What stood out, after watching him run down so many guys, is his speed. I hadn’t really noticed before how fast he can get down the court. What’s really awesome is that Nic’s offensive game is starting to catch up with his defensive skills and he’s only 21!

I was thinking that too.
He has some amazing speed.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

When he caught Lawson
on that breakaway that was dang impressive
"In general, I hate the snap judgments. I hate the rush to predict things. I hate the sports culture that can't think of anything to say unless it is predicting things. I dislike the over-hyping and the following angst-ridden crashes. I dislike the overdrawn, over-simplified, nuance-free generalizations that sprout like weeds over the conversational landscape because accuracy and fairness and truth don't fit as neatly between commercials or quote as easily around the water cooler."

This is one of the most awesome things I have ever seen here!

I'm glad I could be the one to bring attention to it. =)

Also I just now noticed how many blocks he has on some of the biggest names around the NBA.
Which makes it even better.

While I love blocks on Kobe
The Duncan block was my favorite. He empty hand still trying to dunk the ball. And I know that Dave talked about how our fan base overvalues youth and potential, but I love Nic. And if loving Nic is wrong, then I think you know the rest.

It’s OK to get geeked about #88, because he’ll deliver on the hype
Those were the best chase-‘em-down-from-behind blocks I’ve seen since the days of “Mercy Mercy” Jerome Kersey
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I wonder what # he would be picked at in a draft re-do?
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
he would have skipped the draft
and gone strait to the hall of fame

"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.
yeah 3-on-1
advantage: Batum

Cool!!! I have never posted anything worthy of being moved to the front page.
However, it’s not like I put any real work into this. Still cool, though.

Oh man oh man.
“Batum denies him AGAIN” will become common in the years to come, I think…
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
in cleveland, the announcers make a huge deal
Lebron’s CDs (chase down blocks).
I think Nic is right there on par with LbJ in terms of ability to get those swats in transition.
espn had a poll a few weeks ago
on which do you like better: lebron’s blocks or lebron dunks.
ugh

Great stuff
That was great to watch.
(Not to turn a great highlight package into a negative, but… it was a little sad to see Batum’s teammates give up on some of those plays – I’m looking at you LMA.)
Hustle and length are a great thing!
LMA gave up on a ton of plays last night too.
Very frustration to see.

Terrible editing job
Great stuff, yes, but the 10 minutes are less impressive when you count all the blocks that are shown multiple times. And I’m not talking about instant replay; I’m talking about the whole thing being shown two or three separate times in the clip, with replay each time.
Agreed. But,
If you can do better, I think you should put together a version of your own. For now, this one is still pretty neat.

Agreed
I accidentally put the Courtney Lee block in there twice, and I think there was one more that was in there more than once. There were so many blocks from games against the Nets and Nuggets that I got confused.

Need a video of Batum's steals now
Should be plenty footage of Batum shooting the passing lanes for a steal that leads to a fastbreak attempt.

The last play, where he follows the ball from one guy to the next by changing the orientation of his body
while running in the midst of three opposing players and then getting the block off the glass was amazing. Its one thing to run fast, its another to keep the same direction going backwards then to the side then jumping while turning to get at a ball. Wow.
"She turned me into a newt!
A newt?
...I got better."
That was an amazing number of blocks to digest in 10 minutes
Now I expect him to do it every time he’s on defense
From behind...
I’ve noticed that most of his blocks come from behind the player. Usually he’s trailing the guy, and then…swat! The shooter is unsuspecting, thinking he’s got it in the bag, but how wrong he is! This is where I notice his long arms are a major advantage over most players.
Hes like a predator sizing up his prey.....Then BATUUUMBLOCKALACKA
Momma.....der go dat man
I like that.
Do I have your permission to change my sig. from Batumshakalaka to Batumblockalacka?
Batumshakalaka!
the best part is that his blocks are the most valuable
on a fast break, they are going to score unless batum blocks him. Much more valuable than blocking a lower percentage attempt.
I want to see a highlight reel of all of bayless's 3's that were actually 2's
That way when JB watches it he might think where his feet are next time he’s downtown. So many lost points because of his toe!

Seems like a lot of blocks against the Nets
Considering he’s only played against them 4 max his whole career. :)
