Gameday Open Thread: Thunder vs. Blazers--Pre-Game

Can you believe this is Game 54 of the season and the All-Star break hasn't even hit?  The Blazers could use a rest, methinks.  One of the keys to tonight and tomorrow will be them not taking that rest early.  Discuss the potential advantages and pitfalls inherent in tonight's game as you wait for tip-off.

Big Game

I tempted to say Must Win as well. We’ve got to get the upper hand on these guys, not just in the standings but get the psychological edge on ’em as well.

I doubt with their playoff slot in jeopardy that the Blazers will take a break tonight!

Also their chances of beating Phoenix IN Phoenix on a B to B after Phoenix has been off since FRIDAY…is slim. Thank you NBA schedulers!!!

by skywaker9 on Feb 9, 2010 6:19 PM PST up reply actions

this doesn't have anything to do with Comcast

the problem is the NBA blacks out any game on league pass that is on national tv. While this makes sense for ABC, ESPN, and TNT, it’s stupid for games on NBATV, which has much much lower subscriber rates than the other 3

yeah, it makes no sense

it’s not like they are trying to protect their broadcast partner (ESPN/ABC/TNT), they don’t even use their own crew for NBATV games – they just rebroadcast the home team’s production.

if someone subscribes to league pass, why do you care how they watch the game – whether it be on the TV or the computer?

If you have cable

I suggest calling up your provider and asking for NBATV for the night. Some cable companies pro-rate the price, so if you cancel tomorrow, it costs basically nothing. I have done this many times with comcast, it was about 25 cents a day when I decided to order it. Thats all I got, BS man, BS…

wow, talk about screwed up

they black it out on League pass because it’s on NBA TV
they black it out on NBA TV because it’s on local TV

so, once again, the NBA just doesn’t want you to watch their games apparently.

memphis could drop too

leaving the 8 spots pretty well decided. I wouldn’t be shocked if the last 4-5 games are about positioning among the 5-8 slots, and not about in or out at all.

In January 2009, on this site, I predicted the Thunder would make the 2010 playoffs. I’m liking my chances

I definitely think Memphis will drop.

If anything they’re more likely to drop that Houston, Memphis has lost 3 in a row on pace for 4 in a row with a very tough schedule ahead.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

by RyanRTE on Feb 9, 2010 6:54 PM PST up reply actions

I also see OKC slipping once their youth catches up with them.

That and the fact that they do not have a single legitimate big man makes me think they are going to suffer once these regular season games start getting a playoff feel to them.

Coincidentally, I feel like the blazers feel the same pressure, Juwan isnt going to cut it down the stretch…

RUDY > MJ

by Rudiculous on Feb 9, 2010 6:57 PM PST up reply actions

I'm not really worried about other teams although it may seem I am

I try to stay focused on the Blazers alone but I see what you’re saying. I think we still make the playoffs regardless of a trade for a big man or not, have you seen our post ASG schedule? I think we play like 8/11 against under .500 teams to start or something like that. We’ll be fine.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

by RyanRTE on Feb 9, 2010 7:02 PM PST up reply actions

I have def looked at it

There is a 5 game road trip that looks appealing, then you realize there is two back to backs in there, followed by Memphis. Its all on the blazers though, they control their own fate at this point. I dont think homecourt advantage is out of the question, but I also don’t think missing the playoffs is impossible. We still have a lot of games left that need to be won…

RUDY > MJ

I think Houston is like all the rest of the teams in the middle of this playoff race....

If any team loses 3 or 4 games they suddenly look like they are out of it completely. But it doesn’t take more than 3 or 4 wins and you are right back in the race.
