Rudy's MARCA blog: Why does everything happen to me?
Friday Feb. 5, 2010 from: MARCA.com
Hello again. As you all have heard, I have been involved in another rare incident since the last time I updated the blog: A couple of drunken fans "assaulted" me in the middle of the game against Dallas. Also, what happened to Marcus Thornton’s elbow against New Orleans. So I sometimes ask myself, Why does this all happen to me? It's like a movie ...
I’ll tell you about the women: I was listening to the coach during a timeout in the final minutes against Dallas. Since at that time I wasn’t playing, I was a bit out of the circle, and at one point I felt someone grab me by the waist. I turned and saw two women around 45 or 50 years old, that told me things like "we like you", "good game", "nice to meet you" and ended with a "we love you". Am I hallucinating.
The truth is you take this and laugh, but you can't help thinking in the respect that gives you that someone can come reach you easily in the middle of a game, that has so many facilities. At the end of the game the one responsible for security of the Blazers apologized to me, but obviously it was not his fault.
Anyway, they were joking in the locker room for a long time: Everyone would tell me "Rudy, how handsome you are," "Rudy, I love you" ... well you can imagine.
The two women were of a certain age and were clearly drunk. Keep in mind that the NBA sells alcohol to spectators, it's not like Spain ... The only thing that I can get out of this is Why, since all these things happen to me, they couldn’t be two young girls and pretty? :-)
The other story of these days: the elbow of Thornton. Then he told me that I fell and so on... Well, he can think whatever he wants. The images are clear. Here the Europeans have this label that we do what they called "flopping", fake fouls. They even call it "European flopping". We have to deal with that. It is best not give it much importance.
As for everything else, my life here is more or less the same. I spend much time with LaMarcus Aldridge and lately some are coming quite closer to us Steve Blake, Dante Cunningham and Patty Miles. With this last one, who is an Australian rookie, I've become very good friends. You know that I really like Singstar, and the other day he was at home with some friends. From here I made a request to Pau: to get me a Singstar of Mecano, the ones I already have I already know all the songs ...
Nothing more, I’ll say goodbye I recommend that. If you not already follow, you go see the series 'Entourage'. I’m hooked. A hug to everyone.

I didn't get to see Marcus Thornton's "elbow".
What happened?
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
I think that was the elbow that Thornton threw
in the Hornets game …they T’d him up….now sure why he is referring to it now
Roybot: "Then he said "My girlfriend is from LA." to which I replied "Well then you need to find a new girlfriend."’
I think it is because Thornton called him out as a European flopper on twitter, or in an interview or something...

Trade for Dalembert
It looked like he did on the first contact
but then had moved by the 2nd contact
Roybot: "Then he said "My girlfriend is from LA." to which I replied "Well then you need to find a new girlfriend."’
i think that even if he didn't make contact, it's a natural reaction when someone comes at you,
with an elbow or fist or whatever, to fall back and try to avoid it.

Patty Miles?
Why, since all these things happen to me, they couldn’t be two young girls and pretty? :-)
I’m sure there are quite a few that would like to meet you, Rudy
I know Fernandez didn’t compain (publicly) when he was brought off the bench in the Olympics for team Spain. But I’ve got to wonder how he feels about continuing to be a bench player in Portland while Roy has been hurt. After all, Nate has started Bayless and Blake, and might even be contemplating starting Martell at the 2 tomorrow if Roy and Rex can’t answer the bell. I can understand it if Nate wants to keep #5 “bringing the energy” and scoring off the bench, but you’d think after awhile that Rudy might start wondering “is there ever a chance I can be a starter here in Portland?”
Maybe he doesn’t care if he ever starts, but few pro athletes are ego-free or at least without personal goals and ambition

Rudy has been playing more minutes with Roy out. Haven't heard him complaining about coming
off of the bench. The guy plays year round and starts when he is playing in the Euroleage. He may not care about whether he starts in the NBA in his second year as long as he gets minutes.
I honestly don't think Rudy gets too hung up on starting
What he cares about is consistent minutes and a meaningful, growing role on the team.
Nothing more than my gut telling me this, but it’s what I think.
How did you guys win that?
"We scored enough points. We scored 107, they scored 105.
-Nate McMillan Postgame, 3/4/2009
probably not
but when you’re the only guard besides Mills who hasn’t started a game, and with all the injuries?
If he’s fine with it I’m fine with it…but I still remember his reaction to the Hedo offer last summer and he’s already in his mid-20s and earning much less in the NBA than he would’ve if he had stayed in Europe

He only played about 28mpg while at DKV, where he was the best player for his last couple of years
The Spanish national team runs a 10 man rotation where nobody plays much over 30 minutes. I think Rudy buys into that line of thinking as far as keeping fresh bodies on the floor. Its likely why he is such an energetic player by nature, he hasn’t ever had to worry much about conserving his energy . I think as long as he is getting decent minutes(20+), he will be fine. I doubt he really cares about starting, he got benched when Spain got to the gold medal game. One of the things Nate really liked about him was that he observed Rudy warming up, and he said he had no clue that anything had changed. Nate had a lot of respect for how Rudy took that decision.
I think what will piss Rudy off the most, is having an inconsistent role and not feeling the coach appreciates or takes advantage of what he can bring to the floor. Unfortunately, this could still happen, depending on how Nate handles Roy being back. If he starts getting yo yo’d around for Blake and Bayless, he probably won’t be happy…

Yeah, he cares about minutes and role mostly...

Lol, forgot the content
What I was gonna say is that its curious if Nate keeps using the “energy off the bench” excuse, since Jerryd is the guy whos most suited to that phrase.

That is really true. Bayless played his best minutes in the LA game after
he’d been on the bench for AWHILE. Not sure why. But Rudy also plays well off of the bench.
Rex was angry
and he came out hungry in the final quarter
Someone (I think it was Tone) said that Bayless was “favoring” his injury and not playing with his regular aggressiveness in the 1st quarter, and then after Nate sat him down for most of the game, Jerryd came off the bench “with something to prove” in the 4th quarter
Was the coach “sending a message” to his young guard? Maybe…

The Batum factor
We all remember when Nic wrote on his blog this summer about “doing a Portland” and it became an instant catch phrase for “parking in the corner and waiting for a kick out pass to shoot an open three” It’s a staple of the McMillian offense, for “floor-spreading and stick in the dagger” purposes
What isn’t as well known is that Rudy was also unhappy “doing a Portland” last season and let the coaching staff and the front office know about it. He was given more ball-handling responsibility as a result, and he can be a “mercurial” passer, as we saw last night. (that means Nate and Demo have to live with a few creative passes from #5 skipping out of bounds, most every game) We also know how “things worked out” with Sergio, when he tried to push the envelope and liven up the Blazer’s half court offense…
I’m on record that I don’t want to see Rudy traded for just anybody, but I’ve also mentioned a time or two that KP needs to keep “taking Rudy’s temperature” re: his level of content with playing in Nate’s system (the last thing we want is a “trade demand” from Rudy’s agent) As Batum is given more and more attention by the fans and a bigger role in the team’s offense, this could also lead to Rudy wondering about “what’s in it for me?” in the future. Bayless is another guy who’s been emerging this year, and Jerryd’s in direct competition for Rudy’s PT.
I’d love to see a future Blazer rotation that includes Roy, Rudy, Rex and Batum, I think it could be dynamic, if a little unorthodox (depending on who the “PG” is…) But to get these 4 guys all operating at their highest level of production at the same time is going to be a real trick, and it’s going to require some give-and-take between Brandon, Nate and the kids who will excel when the game is played with more “risks” taken at a quicker tempo

As long as everybody gets minutes, everybody will be happy. But now that these guys have tasted more minutes, cutting back is going to be difficult, for everybody involved. I really hope KP has seen enough to pull the trigger and make the team bigger, with fewer wings…
bahahhahahahah!

I like Entourage too - its hilarious
What happened to this season???? It went under the surgeon's knife. But its not over yet. Hold tough. This team will be battle hardened. Tough. Honed to a fine edge. They will be playing playoff style – nine man rotation – for a significant portion of the season. Dividends will be paid. - Tiparillo on Dec 15, 2009 11:48 AM PST on Game 26 Preview: Kings vs. Blazers on Blazersedge
Here's a good pic of the women in question
