Amare wants to go to a contender.

So Amare wants to go to a contender. LMA has been playing buckets lately, but most fans have been frustrated with his passivity this season. Amare's at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. A healthy Oden probably covers most of his defensive deficiencies as well ... So, should the Blazers make a play?

Not so sure about that.

LMA is a floater. Draws less than 4 fts per game. Amare takes it to the basket and draws nearly 8 fts a game. I don’t think this is as much Steve Nash as it is Amare’s attacking mentality. It’s this attacking mentality I feel our frontcourt lacks.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m sure Nash helps. But I suspect Amare would benefit nearly as much from playing with Roy—a player who can draw the defense and get him the ball.

Btw, I’m not advocating Amare here as much as just seeing what people think.

The Suns are my 2nd favorite team and I wouldn't want Amare on the Blazers

First, I wouldn’t want to give away LMA for a 1 season rental. Second, Amare is like a really good LMA on the nights he frustrates us: unstoppable on offense but doesn’t attack enough, could get more boards and doesn’t play defense. And this is him in a contract year. After we gave him more money than LMA gets now? Disaster.

Would never characterize LMA as unstoppable on offense.

Good point about the contract, though. Amare does strike as the kind that would settle once he get’s paid. Though he has already gotten paid and still has high production.

Just the other night, Joe Freeman said

that the Blazers were very interested in acquiring Amare last year at the deadline. This doesn’t mean that they still are pursuing him (Stoudemire is a year closer to free agency and KP no longer has RLEC) but Joe thought it was worth mentioning, so I thought I’d pass it along

there was a great rumor about Shaq, last year

FWIW…this was about the time that Dave wrote a column about how acquiring Shaq from PHX might be a good idea

The rumor was that Rudy was initially unhappy with his role as a corner shooter, and either wanted to be given more responsibility in the offense or to be traded. (The source was a prominent Blazer personality.) A proposal was made with the Suns that involved Rudy for Shaq (among others, no doubt) and it was put to a vote by the Blazer’s brass and the deal failed by a narrow margin

Shortly afterwards, Rudy began receiving more ball-handling responsibilities

Separating truth from journalistic embellishment is the responsibility of the reader, so take it for what it’s worth. But I suspect we fans only know half of what’s really going on, if that. “Trade rumors” that get leaked to the media are often disinformation and smoke screens. At the end of the day on Feb 18, KP may only make another “Diogu-Ruffin deal” but that doesn’t mean that blockbuster proposals haven’t been discussed and rejected for various reasons. Some fans like to know the details, others would rather not. I find the whole give-and-take fascinating, and as much a part of “the game” as what goes on between the lines

na

I really like LMA’s skill set for what we have when healthy. Don’t make a move based on someones play when he’s being forced to play out of position etc even though he has been playing good.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

Uh, no thanks. A big man who isn’t interested in defense? I’ll pass.

It would be tempting..

Regardless of Amare’s faults, he is a very dominant player from time to time, and has a nasty side. LMA may develop into a great player, I mean even now he is an above average player to good player, but he has yet to show that he can be anything other than a passive player who lets the game come to him.

In a vacuum I’d rather have Amare, but in terms of trades, it would depend on what we gave up and if Amare would stay here.

If we trade Outlaw, Pendergraph and maybe Blake

Getting Amare for the rest of the season might be good for LaMarcus. Having him see someone attack the basket everyday will help him in the long run.

no we are not contenders!

amare would not be a good fit because he probably would not be a permenant fit. like it has been stated so many times before, our ongoing injuries makes it hard to know what we got and how they fit together. if we were to actually make that trade which would shock me, i don’t think it would change our outcome for this year as far as playoffs. besides does anyone know if the money side would even work?
