Hollinger: Surprise teams=Healthy teams
An excellent article by John Hollinger (insider) about the role of injuries in determining which teams have exceeded and fallen short of pre-season expectations.
For those that do not have insider, here is the "money" stat:
Fewest games missed by top six players:
Atlanta: 2
OKC: 2
Houston: 4
Memphis: 6
Most games missed by top six players:
Portland: 162
Golden State: 108
New Jersey: 85
Detroit: 81

Also, for those that are curious
Neither Przbilla nor Fernandez were counted in the Blazers top 6 (so, the top six is Roy, Oden, Aldridge, Batum, Miller, ???Blake, Webster, or Outlaw)
He probably went with Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Batum and Outlaw (6th man last year)
So, if you add the 30 games (and counting) Joel has missed and the 19 Rudy has missed, our top 8 guys have missed 211 games combined.
"In Batum's case he must realize he is very likely the first Blazer to successfully fight over a pick all season..."

hmm i think you could give Houston the Yao injury for games missed
Heartbroken..... Our goats have escaped.

Even counting Yao
They are still behind Detroit.
It never looked quite so ugly as this to me, now that I see the numbers next to each other, it’s horrible how much the Blazers have lost.
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Totally right.
But for Hollinger’s purposes this is about how pre-season predictions have been wrong.
Everyone already knew Yao would be out, so they predicted counting that injury. The injuries he is counting are suprise injuries.
In Bayless I trust.

Yeah, exceeded expectations=exceeded pre-season expectations
Yao’s injury was known pre-season so he is explaining why they have done better than expected without Yao.
Wow,
I think it’s time to cut the team some slack.
It wasn't the first time I'd been kicked in the cherries and called a rat by a woman, but it was the first time I didn't mind.
Its really been rough, cleary.
The numbers don’t lie. But right now, this team is as healthy as it will be all year (as soon as Camby returns). Everyone is healthy now, and at the right time.
WE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE. We need to start “surprising” and we need to make up some ground we lost. We weathered the storm and now we’re healthy for the home stretch. I couldn’t ask for more right now.
Its the 4th Quarter (of the season) . . . Lets Gr- Lets Gri- Lets Gri- LET’S GRILL EM!!
