2004-2010 Player Data Comparison (Updated 2/2)
So I am at it again, this time with some direction. I have created another Motion Chart this time for individual players from the 2004-2010 seasons the default scale is Poss/G vs PPP I have it set to track Brandon Roy, Kobe, Lebron and Kevin Durant. Below is a tutorial of sorts on how to utilize this tool.
You can really measure any # of players against each other, or if you chose to not track any in particular you will see motion of all players over 15 poss/g since the 04/05 season. Hope you enjoy. If you have feedback please leave it in the comments.
UPDATE 2/2 Now also includes Salary Data, as well as years of service. Default chart state shows slacking in action.
Thanks to Storyteller for the assist.
Added additional variables including PER, Win Shares, ETC...........
Planning a full glossary and more comprehensive walk through.

Wow
If you have not clicked through and played with this, you haven’t lived. :)
This stuff should be promoted to the front page, or put on TrueHoop, or something.
Give Blake the MLE in 2010!
Farewell to #2 and #25, good luck to you!
#7 #10 #52 -- #5 & #88 are back!
Thanks,
I stole the concept from HoopData if you haven’t checked them out do it. I am just using different data and a different baseline to include players. But I appreciate the kind words.

ok, data geeks
please explain what your acronyms mean in your posts. I am a datahead of sorts, but not familiar with the multitude of acronyms used in NBA world I guess. This seems cool, but I do not know what it is telling because I do not know what PPP is.

Glossary
Since I am sure there are others with the same beef here goes:
PPP- Points Per Possession
FT- % of possessions that end in FT’s
%SF- % of possessions that end in Shooting Fouls
%Score- of possessions where at least 1 point is scored
%TO- % of possessions ending in TO
aFG- Adjusted FG % weighted to place value on 3 pt shooting
Hope that helps

Terrific! A really usable tool with the improvements
Thanks for your work – will you leave it up for bookmarks to return to in the future?
"Their length," he said. "Aldridge is a tough matchup for us. Roy's a very talented ball player, an All-Star player. Miller is just an incredibly savvy point guard with what he's able to do out there on the floor. You throw in their shooters who have size and are able to see over things. They understand where they are as a ball club." - Kurt Rambis
future use
I will leave this up at my blog site http://covertlyaquireddata.blogspot.com not sure if the link in this post will stay active. However I plan to update the 2009 #’s at the end of the reg. season as well as post a glossary of variables etc… If anyone has suggestions to make this more usable please let me know. I think that a lot more blazer fans would find this interesting if it were a bit more user friendly.
