Head Coach
I along with many either admittedly or not would love to see Lame McMillan and the Blazers part ways after this season. A great teacher for sure but beyond being the sergeant of instruction there is not much more I feel he can instruct.
Maybe this year is an anomaly and his weaknesses are just having a limited roster, but even last year there were cracks showing. His inability to generate offense with flowing movement is frustrating at the least. He has had plenty of time with the core group to instill his philosophies and they work sometimes but not enough of the time. I know this is a repeat of many other statements.
I would love to see a coach that has shown his worth with championship abilities. Larry Brownwould be nice, but I believe Greg Popavich would be better. If my memory serves me correctly Pop and KP worked together in San Antonio, wouldn't this make snagging him away from the Spurs slightly easier. One other sell point for Pop to leave is that the Spurs have about a half gallon left in the tank (might just be fumes). He probably secretly wants out, who knows.
Just having a battle tested and successful coach is a dream that will need to come true if climbing the lampposts while swimming in clouds of confetti is the ultimate dream of this organization. I want to enjoy what I missed just before my birth. I have enjoyed other favorite teams championships but that will never equal the feeling of one for the Blazers. I do not want to be the Chicago Cubs of the NBA.

Look, I don't mind criticizing, or even calling for a coach to be fired
But calling him “Lame McMillan” in your first sentence makes me want to ignore everything else you say after, regardless of how correct or incorrect you may be.
Larry Brown is notorious for alienating his players, not playing his rookies, and making questionable rotation decisions. Sound familiar?
Nate’s the man coaching right now, there are probably a good number of NBA teams that would fire their coaches right now if McMillan were on the market. He’s dealing with a team that, really still is (no offense Marcus) without a center.

I did ignore it because there was already another post about firing Nate
"Get three superstars and then fill the roster with guys willing to go through a wall to win." - KP
this is entirely correct...
especially the about the “Lame McMillan” comment

I've always seen him as a Power Forward type
I know he’s nominally played center at many of his stops, but he doesn’t have the physical package to slow down, let alone stop, someone like Dwight Howard or Shaq.
Not that anyone stops them, but still…

His rebounding and shot blocking rates are excellent. Since he is a good weakside defender, he can also help out LaMarcus. That he tends to sag off his man after picks also hurts him less when defending centers (unless they are named Okur or Bargnani and gun from outside) than when he plays against modern mobile PFs with a mid-range to outside game (say Dirk, Bosh, KG, LaMarcus). He’s no Greg Oden/Shaq/Howard, but he’s as much a center as slightly taller guys like Kaman or Okafor.
That's a good point.

Why is "Mac" a put down in scotland?
Half of everyone there is a Mac-something.
Plus, as a “Mick” I gotta say, watch out with the cultural generalities, or I’ll get drunk, play the fiddle, dance with my arms stapled to my sides, and then kick your butt.

Did you mean that calling a Mick a Mack was a put-down in IRELAND, maybe?
That would make more sense…

Nate is a good coach
I don’t always agree with his substitution pattern or who he has in at the end of a game, but I think he is a good coach. He has had a lot to deal with, with all the injuries and all the talent that need playing time. I won’t be surprised to see that he gets a number of votes for coach of the year.
Just wait till we go on a nice run at the end like last year
Everyone posting will love and hugs. Portland fans are too emotional. Be a homer like me, then you can blame it on the refs and the other team and when it turns around you wont be a bandwagoner. Makes it fun and feel like you are standing for something when you support the team, including the coach, 100%.

i have no energy to blame refs this season
it ramps up my blood pressure too high, Nate is the next logical choice…i about busted a gasket going after refs last season….the prospects of officiating are far slimmer than a coaching change…

Nate needs to be asked some serious questions
Is this rash of injuries in any way linked to how hard you work these players and how hard you ask them to work in the off season?
Are any of the late game collapses the fault of your predictable offensive schemes?
Are any of the many poor offensive starts due to your predictable offensive schemes?
How much has your playing favorites hurt team chemistry?
One more
Is having a hugely efficient offense two years in a row, even with all this injuries this year, due to your predictable schemes and choice of playing players who know the system?

a tough postgame question would be nice to see from time to time
Marcus Camby looked better tonight was one of the questions the other night, one that Nate brushed off annoyingly too…
but seriously, when he throws the players under the bus after a 20 point loss or losing a 25 point lead shouldn’t some reporter follow it up with something like…
Are the players not listening to you in late game situations? Why or why not?
Are they Not playing hard? Why or why not?
What exactly are the players not doing? Running the sets you called? What?
The players looked totally unprepared to face a zone defense, why?
any of these might have been good to ask, not the soft ball, platitude ready ones they typically ask…
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
name calling
anytime someone opens a post with name calling is a sure sign that they are reaching for something that isn’t there.
Try some maturity, you will get more attention. Nobody takes a little kid serious, and you come across as one.
Need an X's and O's nerd on the staff
Nate is great at player development and chemistry but play calling at the end of close games always leaves something to be desired. As in there arn’t plays. The plan for the end of the Utah game was literally “give the ball to Brandon lol”. 4 guys standing around while our star iso’s isn’t impressive.

this makes my head hurt
I'm going on a Dave boycott until AK1984 is brought back.
"Did they really expect me to bow down to Jesus?!?" ~Sophia
"At first glance, I saw a fairly unremarkable penis." ~Sophia on Greg Oden
Nate, like most coaches, has his strengths and weaknesses.
But his biggest failure is his stubborness! He clings to players based on misguided loyalties. He sticks with substitution patterns that continually bite the team in the rear. He stays with an offensive scheme that was exposed clearly in the Houston series even though this team has many weapons other than BRoy ISO’s. He doesn’t have clear roles and expectations of his players and doesn’t seem to have very good communication on issues either. The hallmark of a great coach is someone who learns from his mistakes (which EVERY coach does) and adjusts accordingly. For the record, I’m NOT a Nate-hater! I just don’t think he’s the best choice to be the head coach of this particular team
I am not a Nate fan
but to be fair, he tried a different offensive scheme early in the season and Roy was confused and unhappy saying things like "why can’t we do what worked the last few years’ and ’ I want blake’ and such like. Stars can call the shots like that when they win a series or two, until then Roy should have been told to man up at that point in the season…
I am not a Nate hater eithr, he is great at molding young talent, turning them into professionals. The nets could make good use of Nates talents…I ust think he has taken these guys as far as he can, Roy, Aldridge and gang are ready for a more…a more…hmmm…a more imaginative head coach…
