I really hope Roy's injury is all mental

Because he clearly isnt himself, and if its because his hammy is kaput, I dont like forcing him into the action. If he just needs to gain confidence, I get it, otherwise……

For sure. But the fact is that the second unit sufers because Bayless doesn’t have the court vision yet to run the offense well, and that’s not Nate’s fault. The end.

Miller by far. You’re missing my point. Bayless and the second unit lost that lead. Not Nate.

Right I can see some truth in that, but realistically the move we're talking about might have a negative impact in the short term

but will be a benefit in the long term. This year we are definitely a longshot no matter what at this point, so the win total at the end of this season doesn’t really matter that much anyways

The league figured out Bayless’ drive after four games. He gets free throws but he’s not running the offense for anyone but himself.

Forget Blake for Camby. Of course Camby is a fantastic pick-up that was badly needed. The point is that Bayless is not running the second unit well at all. It’s not Nate’s fault that the first unit has to rest and the second unit stinks it up. It’s Bayless’ fault. Only it’s hard to fault him because he’s still learning.

Getting into the playoffs is going to come down to the last couple games

There is something very wrong with the team right now and Roy is not helping. Our offensive sets came to a complete halt when he was in the game

by ppilot on Feb 21, 2010 10:26 PM PST reply actions

the team just got used to playing without roy, just in time for him to come back in a less than 100% form.

The thing is Roy does require a lot of touches, which takes away from some guys who had just started getting more. that’s part of it at least

Miller was a +3 for the game

Roy was a -21. When Roy went out with 2 fouls and Rudy came in, the Blazers were off and flying. When Roy came back, it was slow it down, let Roy dominate the ball. The coach needs to find a way to speed him up.

by rockman on Feb 21, 2010 10:35 PM PST up reply actions

Miller could have been a +10

And it would have won us the game. But he decides that taking 18 footers is a better plan.

Honestly, Roy has earned a few off games. Miller hasn’t.

yeah, I don't think Nate fits with the long term future of the team either

but I don’t know who would be good for us right now. Nate has basically let this team become a bunch of individuals rather than develop a system. Also I really don’t like the two teams philosophy. Just let the starters get most of the time on the floor and have backups come in at times the starters need rest. Don’t sub out a whole team. You are basically putting 5 cold players on the floor at once, and they have to start from scratch no matter what the score is. And this happens multiple times during a game. It doesn’t work.

I would be interested in seeing what our winning percentage is...

since McMillians been able to walk again versus the time that Monty was acting head coach. (I know Nate was still calling plays from the sideline, but Monty was actively in the refs ear, etc.)

I’m starting to think that the reason the Blazers stayed “afloat” was due more to Monty’s coaching than McMillians.

We’ve had so many painful losses in thirty years that it isn’t even funny.

by Timmay! on Feb 21, 2010 10:37 PM PST up reply actions

Some of the reasons this was top 5

-we were up 25 in the 3rd (in a low scoring game)
-it was the Jazz
-the game completed a 4 game sweep of us by the Jazz
-we could have broke their 6 game road winning streak
-it was at home
-it was on national tv
-we are fighting for our playoff lives
-the jazz made a buzzer beater to send it to OT
-the blazers played their hearts out
-we desperately needed to rebound from fridays embarrassment
-the latest we trailed in regulation was when it was 9-8
-division rival
-we needed to win this because we are starting a 5 game road trip
-we were actually healthy

ok, there’s a few reasons it was one of the top 5 most painful regular season losses in Trail Blazers history

Miller hardly ever takes bad shots.

He took 37 three pointers under Cheeks in Philly, he already has 57 (most in 7 years) under Nate. If the coaching staff told him not to shoot them, then he wouldn’t shoot them. He’s just doing what he’s asked.

Hi, I'm coach Nate McMillan and I have the perfect plan to beat Utah

First, I’ll let Rudy and Batum start to get in rhythm, then I’ll sit them for a long stretch after that so they can get cold in the second half when we really need them.

Second, I’ll play Howard big minutes tonight, even though I know that Cunningham can give me just as much if not more in terms of production and energy.

Third, I’ll go exclusively to Mr. Disgusting Jump Shot (5-100) and our injured and out of shape star down the stretch so that our offense can totally stagnate.

Fourth, I’ll make sure not to play Bayless at all now that we got rid of that Steve Blake guy.

Yes, I’m pretty sure this is the perfect game plan. I don’t think there’s any way we could lose tonight!

Which is why few Nets fans – and players – were not breathing easy when their team somehow opened an 18-point lead against the Grizzlies on Sunday night at the IZOD Center. Their worst fears were confirmed when Memphis walked away with a 104-94 victory, dropping New Jersey to 5-51.

Nate’s a good coach, and will easily get another job. he is the perfect guy to rebuild a team from scratch. his reputation nationally is VERY good. we will get heckled a lot for firing him. but if we have someone lined up, and we do well next year, it will all be good
