Maxey: Names to Watch for 15th Spot
Brother Wendell Maxey has been digging into who the Blazers might sign with the 15th roster spot that opened up in the 2-for-1 trade for Marcus Camby.
This afternoon, Maxey turns to SBN's fringe hoops expert and all-around nice guy, Scott Schroeder. Schroeder, who writes on Ridiculous Upside and predicted the Anthony Tolliver call-up before it happened, offers up some pretty interesting names again.
Update: Maxey has posted some more information on his twitter page after speaking with one of the Blazers' scouts.

I see Brevin Knight is there too.
Didn’t Nate want him a couple seasons ago? We could get Von Wafer too.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
Because he's a me first ball hog, low efficiency chucker with a bad attitude.

Dickau. No idea why, but I like that dude.
Can we get Demarcus Nelson from Italy?

Conroy
and his relationship to Broy would be my pick.
515 assists? Probably 75% of them went to Roy.
we can still win........
This could be an interesting one....

Jaque Vaughn...
He was a solid backup to Stockton for the jazz and I think would work well with nates system.

why another pg?
we have a guy name patty mills, remember?
just get another big with experience.
tru
I have a man crush on Patty second only to my man crush on Dante at the moment.
Always best to go big, then work your way down.
we can still win........
Girls are more fun.
Women are even more fun, plus they know what they want.
Clarence, It's better to have a gun and not need it, then need a gun and not have it.
I trust Pender to be able to step in as a backup center a lot more than Mills as a pg
Which is to say I really don’t trust enough Mills to play him in any meaningful minutes this season. I am not saying he isnt a decent prospect, just a totally unexperienced nba point guard.
RUDY > MJ
Thank you KP
that's not what I mean...
I’m just saying that I trust Patty over another pg from the d-league. why get a 4th point guard unless he’s around the calibur steve blake was? We can get another big but it doesn’t mean he plays in front of pendy. Obviously, pendy gets the PT much more so mills.
steady veteran PG
the Blazers don’t beat Phoenix last week without Blake. Bayless and Rudy were brutal
As long as Roy is healthy the veteran PG (like Knight or Vaughn) wouldn’t need to play, but if Brandon was out, Miller needed a rest and the offense stagnated because Jerry/Rudy aren’t getting it done, then Nate could insert the veteran PG to help get everybody back on the same page
there’s no way to overstate this need, heading into the stretch run and the playoffs

It would be ironic if we now found that the guy we could use most is Steve Blake.
Not that some of us have held that opinion all along.
Clarence, It's better to have a gun and not need it, then need a gun and not have it.
it's easier to find Blakes than Cambys
much easier.
I like what Steve brings to the Blazer’s bench, but that’s a deal KP makes 10/10 times. If there’s a “mutual desire” for Blake to return in July, it will happen. KP regretted trading Steve away once, so it would not surprise me to see another “welcome back” press conference with KP/Nate/Blakey this summer
much to the consternation of Bedgers, far and wide

well Rudy shouldn't have been concerned about being traded
if what Filippi said in that interview re: Paul Allen’s “#5 man-love” is true (ref: sidebar)

D-League candidates (guards)
Morris Almond
Coby Karl (though not sure the Warriors don’t have him planned in already)
Jermaine Taylor
Donnell Taylor (Blazers training camp invitee)
Dontell Jefferson
Jermaine Taylor's not in the D-League
And isn’t the need for a point guard?
I blog at Ridiculous Upside. I know you'll love it.

That depends on how healthy Roy is, and if Bayless is supposed to continue to play more 2 with Mills seeing some action or if he gets now switched almost exclusively to the 1 for a second unit with Rudy. In the end, probably they just wait for someone to get bought out anyway. The #15 is not really needed as long as Camby and Roy stay healthy now.
I dont understand going for a point guard out of the Dleague...
Patty Mills tore it up down there. Any pg we get would be right behind him on the depth chart anyway. I would like to see a veteran player come in that could be a smart, experienced player and much less risky than being forced to play Mills for some reason. I have always liked Antonio Daniels, but I have no clue what he has done in the last year and what kind of shape he is in as far as playing basketball goes. Last year he was still ok though, he has a 3 to 1 career assist to turnover ratio, can shoot it a little bit but is primarily a distributor, and can play some defense. Most importantly, he has played under Nate before and for the blazers, he would adjust quickly. Who knows though, he could be 40 pounds over weight for all I know…
RUDY > MJ
Thank you KP
Definitely Conroy
Then I could relive my high school days…
Steve Blake would get 25mpg when we want a guy that is happy on the bench
But able to step into an emergency situation and keep the wheels from coming off…
RUDY > MJ
Thank you KP
I don't recall
Blake ever complaining one bit about coming of the bench or demanding minutes. He always seemed to approach it as he should; he was going to work as hard as he could and play as well as he could and take what he deserved.
Obviously a lot of chatter about Nate overplaying Blake, but I;m sure there was a reason for his minutes, and at any rate, it’s not like it was something that was in Blake’s control or that he was demanding.
Why would he complain when he is probably getting more minutes than he deserves?
Blake obviously cant be signed anyway so its a pointless debate. We are talking about an unsigned player that competes with Mills for the right to wear a uniform to games as the 12th guy on the roster, Blake doesnt fall into this category…
RUDY > MJ
Thank you KP
Uh, yeah...
That’s why I said it was ironic, that we shuffled players to fill a need, and the need we end up with when we’re done is for a safe, serviceable true point guard. Never mind.
Maybe I am in the minority, but I'd rather give proven guys like Mike James or Shaun Livingston a call.
Kinda surprised Livingston isn’t on a roster somewhere, since he looked serviceable still.
Not sure Brevin Knight can still play, but I always liked what he brought.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas = 15th
If that happens, Ilgauskas will have several options. He admits a number of teams have called his agent, Herb Rudoy. Though neither Ilgauskas nor Rudoy identified them, Dallas and Denver are thought to be in the market for a big man.
another C would be a “bigger” use of our 15th slot
