I'm sorry I started watching it.

Those guys look soooooo down, I couldn’t bear to keep going.

I wonder if Pritchard can bear to watch it.

He might just get on the phone and beg Dunleavy to rescind the trade.

by meru on Feb 17, 2010 8:02 PM PST reply actions

That really was painful.

They look like two kids that got lost in the woods or something. I want them both back right now. Hopefully they can resign in the summer. They belong here!

Wow. Heartbreaking. The purgatory of the Clip-joint.

Luckily, both Blake and Outlaw have a chance this summer to improve their situation. Here’s to Trout at Memphis and Blake at Miami.

Best to both of you!

I can't even bring myself to click the play button on that.

I love that we got Camby. But I hate that we had to give up those two to do it. :(

Why couldn’t we just have Camby for free?

Sign Steve Blake to a long term contract now!

On 95.5

Quick said Blake and McMillan talked on the phone after the trade and Blake said he was happy for the Blazers, and thought that Camby was the right guy to do.

Blake knows this is a business. I’m sure he’d be happy to come back for the right deal.

I wouldn't mind having Blake back as a steady PG off the bench

but not as a 30+ minute a night starter

I agree

But not if his minutes eat into Rudy and Bayless’s, which is what would happen next year were Blake to sign back on. Both those guys aren’t going anywhere if KP’s actions this week are any indicator.

All of the above.

That hurts, because we see them as one of our own, and so do they. They bought in like fans do.

Sorry, but they were the only tradable contracts in an Expiring-for-Expiring deal. Blazers had to get a big. The right move.

But it still sucks, but only because we/they care.

Only one can return at same pay scale. Which one?

We may end up with the chance to keep Camby and have one return.

But it still sucks.

Painful to watch – hard not to squirm in your seat and look away.

I hope they both do very, very well and earn better contracts.

Travis and Steve will alway have lots of Blazer fans.

We aren’t winning a championship this year. What is the point of the betrayal when it is just for a rental?

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

by axel360 on Feb 17, 2010 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, not a betrayal

Especially for Outlaw. He’s young, single, and wants to be a star. Not likely to happen for him in Portland, but maybe he can get starter minutes and more shots in LA.

I feel bad for Blake’s family. It’s tough being away from young kids. But Marcus Camby feels the same way. His family is settled in LA.

That’s why one can hardly call it a betrayal. Cuts both ways.

by mas1983 on Feb 17, 2010 9:15 PM PST up reply actions

We could resign Camby

but he’s 35. People are amazing that Juwan is doing as good as he is, and he was 36 most of this season.

Because Camby is old, we could get him cheap.

He can play the 4 or 5 and is great assurance when one of our centers get hurt. And he is still getting 12 rebounds per game

Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!

by axel360 on Feb 17, 2010 9:22 PM PST up reply actions

He is old

but his play has not yet started the downhill slide. I don’t think we will be able to get him all that cheap, but he might be somewhat affordable if KP wants to go that route…

Painful! At least they have each other to get through the rest of this season.

Blake and Outlaw loved the Trailblazers. I hope they know they will always be welcome and beloved in Portland. Things happen for a reason. Holton always mentions challenges and opportunities, and here is a good example. Make the best of this, they will be better for it for sure.

by bustamove99 on Feb 18, 2010 10:07 AM PST reply actions

Yeah its kinda sad...'cept...

These guys are paid millions of dollars to play a sport they love. They can deal with 1/2 a season playing in a dumpster.. They will both go to better teams with more opportunity next year. Sure it kinda sucks to see them go, but this team wasn’t going to get any better without doing something.

by tmundal on Feb 18, 2010 10:12 AM PST reply actions   1 recs

That was surreal

and painful to watch. I understand why KP made the move, but it doesn’t make me feel any less bad for Blake and Trout. And, somehow, knowing they’re not going to be on the floor for Portland makes me feel the Blazers aren’t quite the Blazers any longer. I know the feeling will pass, but still…

I hope, for both their sakes, they can get out of Clipperville and get to teams they really want to be on and that they have great success with those teams. They both fit the “culture” management wanted to create here, but fitting that culture didn’t keep them here when push came to shove.

by pxilpooshr on Feb 18, 2010 4:53 PM PST reply actions

Ouch! But look at it like this: this is the price of acquiring nothing but character guys

Namely, when you make a needed trade, you’re always going to be trading great people. And that’s always going to feel wrong.

But I do think this trade had to happen, and not entirely because the Blazers were big-deficient due to injury. There were log jams at point guard & small forward, and a coming numbers crunch. You simply have to give Nic Batum, Rudy, Bayless, & Cunningham long minutes. Without significant minutes, guys can’t get a rhythm and develop. How was that going to happen with Blake and a healthy Outlaw on the roster? Something had to give eventually.

Hopefully Blake and Outlaw’s Clipper-Land purgatory will only be for the remainder of this season. They should be able to handle 30-odd games of hell. Hey, fact is, they’re still NBA players, making great money and living the dream. More or less…

I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.
