Blown Up Junk - 12-6-2010
So is blowing it up something everyone is looking forward to now?
The daily Junk Drawer (JD) fanpost is the place for true off-topic conversation and people's random thoughts.. with a goal to foster community and people have really become a family here. So if you have a one-off thought, consider posting it here.
The rules about importance and significance of the topic are suspended in each JD but keep some of these basic rules in mind:As you try and navigate through the junk drawer, remember that you can use 'Zorro' on your keypad to mark a poster as dead and move to the next one and hitting shift-A will mark all comments as read.
- Be frightful, that every image posted shows down the JD, so use dissection in how many you post. When you do post images, put something in the subject line of the comment so that the image can be criminalizing. Pictures of cute cats are mostly 'preciated.
- Stay off my lawn.
- Personal attacks and swearing will NEVER be tolerated
- Mentioning of anything is not allowed unless it's to say that it belongs in an 'anything forum'.
- Try not and be annoying about everything; my head hurts.
- Don't use the JD to call out or talk about users from other BEdge threads. However, if you need to call out someone from the JD thread, feel free to use the intercom system provided for your convenience.
If you are interested in learning more about BEdge slang, you can consult the wikipage.
word of the daze: precipitate
This junk is all about looking forward to things. Maybe it's Christmas or the New Year. Things have went from crazy to bad to worse to a hole with dirt over the team in the last six months of the year. Maybe people are looking forward to us losing quicker so we blow it up quicker and for a better draft pick or for Nate to leave finally or for a trade forcing new stuff to happen. Some people are hoping we'll see a lockout just so we might have a better chance to come back healthier or something. What are you looking forward to (in any sense)?
As for me, I am looking forward to making a grand trip in February to North Carolina.
Also, I'm looking forward to the 77 game win streak that last night will spark! 71-11 baby!!! we're still in this thing! No more loses! No more loses! GO BLAZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, now. no i didnt. i did however, wake up sat evening, fully dressed in my bed, w/ the red glow of netflix informing me that i had ‘finished watching’ whatever it was i watched. i opted not to engage in life and instead just sleep until football the next morning; the following morning, i discovered about 6 slivers in my left hand. Also, i think my costume is in pieces. i’m glad i went home when i did, otherwise i might have died. unrelated, related: i found someone sort of passed out behind a bar, picked em up, conversed as we walked to some stranger’s car, who then drove us to the next bar. i consider myself someone’s savior, even though i don’t remember them there after. also, i made friends w/ someone named “shoe”.

epic. you remember more than I would have expected. I need to stop biking home from places after drinking until 4am, ‘cause I risk falling asleep on my bike. I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but at some point Friday night, on my ride home, I hit the curb and flew over my bike. my clothes got all muddy and i have bruises all over, including a pretty brutal one on my inner thigh, which I think happened from hitting the handlebars. At least we both our foozeball teams won their games.
I’m glad you saved someone’s life, yore a real.hero, EK

Well, thanks for linking so I am on the up and up. Apparently I need to vote “yes” in the poll then.
Not sure, but I think acronym was, in fact, coined in honor of you.
You can thank BRP later.

For what it's worth, I don't expect Paul Allen to sign off on blowing up the roster -- which basically means ...
means moving Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge for nothing of value in return beyond players with expiring contracts, who’ll be off the books at the end of this season — however, it’s an interesting idea to contemplate in theory.
Yet, if I had to guess what’ll actually happen, my assumption would be that the Portland Trail Blazers will retool somehow, but I’m not sure how to go about that process successfully at this point. As I see it, Roy and Aldridge are currently the core of a team that’s doomed to suffer early playoff exits the next 5 seasons. Now, even if Greg Oden comes back healthy post-lockout — which I hope for and is the one thing I’m optimistic about here — he won’t be enough on a team lead by a hobbled Roy, who never helped effectively acclimate Oden on the court in the first place.
All in all, the current rendition of the Portland Trail Blazers looks to be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Anyway, it’s sometimes better to savor the past than look toward the bleak future. So, in light of that, here’s one of the top songs from 1977 — and all of music history — for you Blazer fans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdCrZfTkG1c
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
I don’t know whose mantra it was that the worst place you can be in pro sports is over the cap but not in contention, but it’s totally true, and that’s exactly where the Blazers are about to be.
In the NBA, it's good to be great and bad to be poor; yet, the worst is sustained mediocrity.
That’s not so much true in the NFL or MLB — since the NFL is built for quick turnarounds, while in MLB there’s nothing worse than being a bottom of the barrel basement dweller — but it’s definitely the case in the superstar-driven NBA.
Anyhow, in honor of the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics, here’s the greatest song from the year 1979: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=354hOH5qVHA
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Here's some true '79 goodness.

Good now
Kenny still hisses at her but he’s willing to be in the house with her now. He’s pretty much been outside since we got her. Carlos is already playing with her, and he’s pretty much the reason I got the kitten. They both sleep with us too. I’ve been feeding turkey to Carlos and Lolita and they have the stinkiest farts in the world.
2
I had Carlos the dog and Kenny the cat and just got Lolita the kitten. Carlos and Kenny were pals at our last place but since we bought the house, Kenny is outside about 90% of the time. I got the kitten to play with Carlos because he hate dogs and another dog would mess up our pet sitter situation.
Nice. I have one dog. My fake GF is moving in soon and I fear that she will want a cat. I like cats, but am quite allergic.

Miller is 51st in the league in PER among players on pace to play at least 500 minutes at 19.33. At 16.62 and 16.59, respectively, LMA and BRoy are 79th and 80th. Yikes.

LMA
What’s his split on O with D boards?
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
LA is 11th in the league in offensive rebound rate according to basketball-reference.
Hollinger has a much lower standard for “qualifying” for rate stats, so in his rankings LA is 18th among PFs in OReb rate and 51st among PFs in DReb rate. To qualify for Hollinger, you just have to be averaging 6 mpg.
Blow it up.
Right, with an example of an efficient team that's got a high ORB% being the Lakers.
On the other side of that equation, Cleveland is an inefficient team that’s also got a poor ORB%.

There’s no other way to make the games close when we spot the opposition a +20% on their field goal percentage.

Portland's eFG% differential so far this season is fairly large -4.4%.
That’s in the same range as Minnesota, Sacramento, and Washington, which is pitiful.

i have to admit I haven’t watched many of their games this year. But if Lampard missing is causing them to play this poorly, then depth has to be a concern.

just the title of simmons’ latest excerpt posing as a column made me want to puke. will not be reading.
Meh, I don't see Kevin Durant being nothing more than a slightly souped-up version of Rashard Lewis ...
if the Portland Trail Blazers had drafted him. Then again, I wasn’t high on Durant at Texas, didn’t care for his combine performance, and totally soured on him after his middling rookie season in Seattle. I’m certainly in the minority there, although many times the majority is nothing but a flock of sheep.
I, moreover, bet that a lot of people here who claim to be anti-Durant would’ve supported him, ignored his on-court flaws (i.e., poor handles, matador man-to-man defense, et cetera), and defended him vigorously had he been drafted a Blazer. Yeah, a lot of y’all — except for a few savvy basketball fans like Mortimer — would’ve been similar to the folks I argued with at SonicsCentral during Durant’s rookie campaign.
That’s why I consider myself to be one of the only pure anti-Durant folks out there, for I even ripped the guy when he was on my favorite team. If nothing else, I don’t weakly succumb to homerism with regards to the NBA. Now, the NFL is a different matter. I know it can be argued that the Seattle Seahawks are statistically a bottom-five team in the league; yet, in spite of that, I still believe those guys can win the NFC West and win a home playoff game. Is that foolish? Sure, but at least I admit it.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
lol. If we'd taken KD...
Portland becomes a legitimate 2010 destination for LeBron; any successfully unconventional decision would be called “a Pritchard”; and everyone in Portland would be so perpetually happy that it would never rain there again. Instead, we have to start bracing for the 2029 or 2030 Draft, when Portland wins another lottery and finds itself stressing between Sure Thing Potential Superstar Scorer X over Possibly Fragile Franchise Center X as everyone else wonders, “Wait a second, we’re doing this again?” One of these generations, the Blazers will get it right.
Blow it up.
Man, Bill Simmons is an idiot.

Politics warning
The 9th curcuit’s oral argument on the Prop 8 (gay marriage ban) case will begin at 10 AM Pacific and is streamed on CSPAN.org
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Marriage should be abolished as a governmental institution at the federal, state, and municipal levels.

I'm with you on that
Make it all civil unions.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Not even civil unions, as I disagree with people filing joint tax returns, getting any gov't benefits ...
for partnering up with someone, et cetera.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Everybody should file taxes individually, even if it's two people living together with dependent ...
children who they produced together, adopoted, or whatever. Oh, and if someone practices a belief system that condones polygamy, then so be it. You, I, and many others may consider it a ridiculous lifestyle, but to each their own. Plus, human beings should mind their own business and butt out of other people’s lives.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
polygamy has strong negative externalities which should at least be considered. Is it possible that the limitation on autonomy outweighs those externalities? yes. but it’s not analytically comparable to gay marriage or whatever.
"Is it possible that the limitation on autonomy outweighs those externalities?"
To me, that’s what matters first and foremost.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Polygamy has negative externalities because it's illegal, which means it's only commonly practiced by people on the fringe of society.
Obviously it’s not the same as gay marriage, nothing is, but I think it’s just as legitimate of a lifestyle choice.

Wow I just saw this
Miller was REALLY chippy. On the possession prior, Blake shoved Miller in the back, and Andre took offense and turned to stare at Blake. Blake ignored him. He made sure Blake was aware of him on the following possession.
Now I am going to have to go watch this.

I think this is related to Blake basically not getting foul calls. He's testing his boundaries

On a related note, I cannot believe the refs missed both shoves
They called a ticky-tack foul on the next possession to give Blake FT’s.
Andre overreacted, but he looked as tired as most of the fans...
That Blake can basically go over the back, shove in the back, and do as he wishes without penalty. Probably doubly frustrating because Andre bonded with Greg last year and he didn’t get the same treatment.
Andre’s incident was retaliation though. A little over the top, but nonetheless. I bet if I rewound the whole game, there may have been a build up of small incidents with Blake.
Even the Clippers fans are commenting that Griffin got superstar foul calls last night. Apparently not true every night.
It was fairly ridiculous at times. The fact that he missed most of them softened the blow a bit.
Yeah, he sucks at FTs
but damn. He was being babied like crazy.

Eugene-Springfield, meet Captain Awesome.
Not that the former Douglas Allen Smith Jr. is a newcomer to Lane County.
He was born here in 1983. He graduated from Willamette High School in 2002.
But he officially became Captain Awesome only last month, when a Lane County Circuit Court judge approved his name change petition.
And his new first name is no title, he made clear in a recent interview.
“Hi! I’m Captain,” he said, making this story even more fun to write. Journalists refer to subjects by last name only on second and subsequent references. So, that’s Awesome!
Any reader who — like Awesome — watches the television show “Chuck” will not be surprised to know how he chose his new moniker. It was, indeed, inspired by a character on the NBC action/drama series: Dr. Devon “Captain Awesome” Woodcomb.
“I just thought it was really funny that Devon’s father always called him Captain Awesome because a poor nickname builds good character,’?” said the local Awesome, an out-of-work cabinet installer.

Hey, one thing I've always wondered about them
They have menthol — do they smell?
We have a bunch of those warming patch type things in the med cabinet. Mostly we keep them around because they do a decent job of keeping hummingbird feeders warm in sub-freezing weather. (Don’t tell the feds that we burn up some med flex money every year on our hummingbirds . . . )

Oooooo, no good.
Most back injuries are minor, and are either strains ( where the muscles get stretched beyond their normal length, sometimes causing microtears in the muscle fibers ), and sprains ( where a ligament or a tendon gets stretched causing microtears ). Both can be painful, but in general sprains are the most painful of these two more minor injuries. Strains can last from a few days to a couple weeks. Sprains commonly last 4-6 weeks.
Sometimes shooting pain down one leg can accompany back injuries, when swelling in the lower lumbar region can pinch the sciatic nerve and cause pain. This is generally not considered an emergency.
If you have numbness / tingling / shooting pain / weakness down one leg that may or may not accompany loss of bladder control this is much more serious and probably a much more severe injury involving an intervertebral disc. Get seen immediately if this is the case.
Rest, Ice, and anti-inflammatory medications are all effective against the initial pain of a back injury. No heavy lifting until pain free. With muscle strains, heat is effective after the swelling of the initial injury goes down ( usually 1-2 days ). If pain persists more than a day, I would strongly consider getting it seen.

according to my dad, both a physician and a person with a LONG history of back trouble, it’s important to remember that many back problems take 4-6 weeks to resolve, no matter what you do (not that you don’t say this above, just reiterating).
His latest back issue responded well to anti-inflammatories, and after two weeks, he’s doing much better.
Hope you don’t require 4-6 weeks, Corvid.
Thanks. My guess is that it's minor
It just caught me by surprise. I got the sprong once before, about 8 years ago, when I lifted something heavy and twisted at the same time. I never, ever, ever, expected to get it when when doing a slight forward bend without twisting. My gut reaction was to jury rig an ice pack so that it’s against my back (i.e. the typical RICE stuff — as much as can be done for that location) and pop some Advil. Glad that’s your take too.
Back problems are a pain, for sure. Both my brother and my mother had problems that required surgery — one an acute injury, the other after years of chronic pain.

Awesome
Wisconsin had 5,800 student tickets to sell. They went up for purchase on uwbadgers.com at 9 p.m. Sunday and were sold out by 9:20 p.m.
The above students had the nerve to put their Rose Bowl tickets up for sale on Facebook Marketplace within two hours of tickets selling out. Face value was $150. Some were trying to get the tickets for more than $400 a pop.
Truly, there is a special place in Hell for people who buy Rose Bowl tickets with the sole intention of profiting from them. It is entirely unfair to those who actually love this football team and were counting on a cheap face value ticket in order to make the trip to Pasadena an economic reality.

The ignore script seems to work as intended, but it does bog down Firefox a little bit which is to be expected. I’m not sure if the slowdown is SBN related or if it’s cause the script is running the entire page through it to check for blocked/favorite usernames. is it story time
us poor people need a way to pass the day
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
His house is at a 3 way stop that no one actually stops at. He apparentlty doesn’t like that so he has put things in the middle of the road to try and make people stop, I guess. A traffic cone, giant tree branches, a pumpkin, he put a lightstick thing on top of one of the signs…the other day he parked his car on the street with christmas lights all over it and and his flashers on so people would stop. He’s called the cops 3 or 4 times about it too.
He’s gone over to the house across the street from him so many times the people told him they would get a restraining order if he doesn’t stop. He’s told multiple other neighbors that he is going to buy their houses when they aren’t even selling…
The real estate agent that sold the house to him already has a restraining order on him because he kept calling her, sending her flowers, etc.
One of our neighbors was going for a walk when he yelled and asked her if her sister lives with her (it’s actually her daughter that’s a few years older than me). It’s just creepy he would even ask that. He walks his dog without a leash so it just runs around through everyone’s yard. The other day he was walking by and asked my neighbor if she could get the dog, saying it’s not his….wtf?
So basically, it is a crazy, stalkery person similar to you, Ark.

No taxes if I keep the stock for more than 12 months (except for very very high gains). And I think 25% tax for gains made on stocks sold within 12 months, which is much less than my income tax. Day trading would of course have high courtages from so many transactions, but nothing prevents you from doing it.

Have a bad habit of being TOO brutally honest?
Psychology Today discusses how to make your honestly more socially acceptable.
best part of the article
In some cases, truth telling may be a byproduct of the way the brain is structured. People with Asperger’s syndrome, for example, are extremely forthright because they have a limited capacity to understand the social repercussions of their blunt honesty. “My mother had Asperger’s, and she literally could not tell a lie,” says Ellen Snortland, a writer and producer in Los Angeles. “After my father died, I asked her, ‘Do you ever miss Dad?’ She said, ‘Nope, I’m glad he’s dead.’ She didn’t say it with malice. It was merely true for her.”

At the end, there was a subtle, yet hilarious cunnilingus joke with Katy Perry and Moe.
Pretty raunchy stuff for The Simpsons, too, which gets a thumbs-up from me.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
The other day we were trying to think of the verb form of cunnilingus. It was rather difficult
If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you
Present, past, or future tense?
But it usually gets paired with “perform” or something similar.
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.
“Fellatio” has a verb form, and we were trying to think of a cunnilingual equivalent
If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you
Probably similar treatment
Just leave off the last few letters.
That reminds me of one of the times I saw the Colbert Report being recorded. Before the show, Colbert comes out and answers questions for a few minutes. Someone asked him something about an old Daily show bit where he had gone down on a banana. A few questions later, someone asked him about some of his skills or hobbies. He replied: “Fellating fruit.”
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.
What a badass
I had a good laugh at that story. I love his character in Strangers With Candy
If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you

Weirdly enough
The first time I saw it, I thought “What’s wrong with Andre??” and I rewound further to see why.
By the fifth viewing, it gets strangely funny. I can’t explain it.
I almost want to re-watch the game to see if Griffin and Andre had been chippy for a while
But there’s one big problem with that plan.
What do you expect?
That’s how fans are.

"Roybot can do whatever she wishes on this site. She’s on the V.I.P. lounge list." -Dave
If you think that is awesome then I don't know what to say to you
It was about as awesome as Ariza’s takedown on Rudy, except worse because there was NO play on the ball.
That was horrible.
while it was definitely malicious.
There’s a big difference between pushing someone on the ground and pushing someone that’s in the air.
this wouldn’t have been a big deal twenty years ago.
He got shoved in the back by Griffin so he shoulder charges him into the stanchion?
That is a big deal in any era I think. Sure you might see it more 20 years ago but Griffin didn’t even see him coming. It was a total cheap shot.
I'm debating that at all.
And it wasn’t a good decision by Andre.
BUT, there is a big difference between pushing someone in the air and pushing them on the ground.
The guy who did it would be the focus of Blazer hatred for a long time
We’d want a season ending suspension I’d guess : P

If the Clippers didn't complain, they won't care
And if they did complain, it’s probably already reviewed.

"Roybot can do whatever she wishes on this site. She’s on the V.I.P. lounge list." -Dave
I kind of wondered
The infamous replayed game a few years ago was because of an error that said Shaq fouled out when he really hadn’t.
If we lost, I wonder if Portland would have petitioned the NBA about LMA. I guess it would depend on whether it was a ref error or a scorekeeper error. Scorekeepers make mistakes but the ref decision is final.

Yeah if Greg was shoving people around with no penalty
I’d be cranky that he got leveled, but I’d also sigh and understand why.
I think part of why some us may be so okay with it is because Greg never DID get away with that. he’d get called for ticky tack little touch fouls and then Blake Griffin gets away with shoving our guys all night long. Makes sense for some of us to respect Andre’s decision to not take it from Blake.

2 games is nuts if the foul is all its based on. Like you say, that’s arguably just a flagrant 1, no ejection, no suspension. He was sort of going for the ball.
Blow it up.
Not based on recent history.
That type of foul seems to be a point of emphasis this year. A standstill push at the midsection when someone is in the air is not being tolerated at all.
There have already been two suspensions for the same thing and a bunch of flagrants called, even when the player lands on his feet.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 6, 2010 3:40 PM PST up reply actions
And he walked away. They can blame him for the push, but can't blame him for starting the scramble, that was Baron.
Yeah maybe later. But immediately after the push he walks away, and doesn't even look.
He turns around when the scramble starts.
What?
He shoved Joel in the chest. The ball was in the hands at the rim.
"Roybot can do whatever she wishes on this site. She’s on the V.I.P. lounge list." -Dave
I think it's a dangerous foul.
I’ve always hate the midair push. Especially when it’s not on a fastbreak with zero body contact, just because it’s so obviously intentional and unnecessary.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 6, 2010 3:41 PM PST up reply actions
I'd be fine if they always came down hard on anyone who commits a mid-air push foul
Especially when clearly not going for the ball.
I think that's what they're trying to do.
If there’s no body contact and only a two handed push to the body it seems like it’s been an automatic flagrant this year. Not always an ejection, but two shot and the ball at least.
Bosh was slightly shoved the other night in the same situation, landed on both feet and the person who touched him got a flagrant 2.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 6, 2010 3:46 PM PST up reply actions
the scuffle is probably what drew the suspension
righly or wrongly, starting a scuffle like that usually draws stiff penalties in a post Artest Melee NBA
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
he committed the flagrant on Joel. 2 games seems harsh for him actually since what Dre did was much more clearly intentional. Dre arguably got off easy.
Blow it up.
I suspect they saw why Andre was mad
If they had suspended Andre for more than one, game, there would have been Blazer outcry at Blake Griffin, and the NBA didn’t want that.
/conspiracy theorists unite.
damn. Though it’s probably the right call, we’re gonna struggle without ’Dre. lololol Nash v. Patty is going to be hilarious.

So Baron Davis still only got the one T for starting the entire fight?
I wonder if Nic will get his rescinded, since it was dumb.
"Roybot can do whatever she wishes on this site. She’s on the V.I.P. lounge list." -Dave
I don't think Baron ever got one.
Which is really weird. The other guy got one, the one who got ejected shortly afterward when Camby tried to hold him back.
Baron should have been booted
He initiated the whole scrum by attacking Nic from the side/back.

But not last year. I mean if we touched Griffin last night, it was a foul.

I still don't get how Corey Maggette gets so much love from the referees.
My only guess is due to his strength and the way he bulldozes his way to the hoop.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Which is crazy
Because Joel was just sort of looking at the whole fracas with an amused look on his face. Although I bet he had some choice words for Cook.

A deal has been reached on Bush tax cut extension
The deal extends all the tax cuts for two years, including those on upper-income Americans that Obama wanted to end. As a result, the debate over the tax cuts will have to be joined again during the 2012 presidential campaign.
Obama won a 13-month extension of unemployment insurance, a reduction in employee payroll taxes next year, and the continuation of a variety of tax credits aimed at lower- and middle-income Americans.

There’s a line between physical and dirty, and we all want our guys to be pretty close to that line.
That move was obviously over the line, and he’s getting suspended because of it. I honestly don’t have a problem with the move or the punishment. It’s not like it was a dangerous hit. Blake wasn’t up in the air. It was just too violent. It was Andre’s reaction to being hit repeatedly by Blake.
And it’s worth going over to read stuff at Clips Nation. They are pissed. It’s funny. It looks like Blogabull over there.

Yeah, I'm not to worked up about the issue.
Was shoving Blake Griffin in the back from behind a dirty play by Andre Miller? Yes.
Was the one-game suspension for Miller a fair punishment? Yes.

Do homeristic fans from both sides overreact? Yes.

after review of the video, Andre didn’t hit him as hard as it looked. I don’t think Griffin flopped, I think he was properly falling. There’s less risk for injury if you fall right. He just fell down and slid, didn’t really hit the stanchion.
Two punk moves by Griffin, pushing a little point guard. Crazy that he gets away with that while Greg’s not allowed to breathe.
I'm watching the other video now
I missed Griffin’s shove before when the Clips had the ball. And then he shoved him AGAIN when we had it. No wonder Miller was pissed.

Nate's on Courside right now
Didn’t catch all of it but it sounds like Nate’s been on the phone a lot to Stu Jackson (NBA honcho in charge of suspensions) about all of this and making a case for Dre. Stu didn’t see all of the Griffin pushing, but saw the one in the previous possession and agreed that Griffin shouldn’ve been called for the foul.

Interesting.
I’m disappointed Andre was suspended without context. If they’d noted “Griffin had been pushing him with no fouls, but retaliation is still unacceptable”, it would have been nice.

he’s still young, and doesn’t want to believe that he’s done (and sadly, he thinks that being benched is a sign of that). it’s up to the coach to discuss the new role with him, and explain to him how he can lengthen his career and help his team if he comes off the bench.

hmm, I'm looking at getting a wheel for my PS3 and can't go for a wireless model right now. (Either they are too expensive, or lack features that I would like for gaming)
So I think I would be right near that 16 foot limit as even though I’m about 8 feet from my console, I don’t want a wire hanging in the air between me and my mantle. I think if I’m going to be that close, I’d be smart to get one with a booster, especially for a driving game where glitches in the signal would make me lose my mind….

This off-season, I'd trade a 7th round pick to take a shot on Brady Quinn.
According to Rotoworld, Quinn is under contract for only $7000,000 in base salary next season.

That should read as $700,000.

Between previous bad blood and the lack of a new stadium
That’s partially why I’m not sure Seattle will be on the short list.
I don't think they will move to Seattle because of the stadium issue.
but if Ballmer really wanted to get it done, he could.
I'm pretty sure there are tons of angry Sonics fans
With more than enough money to get a stadium built, if someone steps forward to coordinate it. I’d volunteer, but I think it should probably come from someone who knows what they’re doing when it comes to building a multimillion dollar arena.
The "bad blood" is fine -- for this is no NFL v. Baltimore -- but the arena is a sticking point.

"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
I agree with that
KC has an NBA ready arena if memory serves, but I’m not sure if there’s an ownership group in place.

Why doesn't San Diego have a team? A market big enough for football should be able to support an NBA team I would think.

Yeah, New Orleans is a one-sport town.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Two current NBA cities that don't need a team are New Orleans and Memphis.
In football, Jacksonville should move to Los Angeles. In baseball, I honestly believe Tampa Bay should move to the college baseball mecca of Omaha — even though the suggestion I read was to a Nor’eastern state like Connecticut or New Jersey — but I’m in the minority.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

I got invited to 2
Didn’t go to either but saw the facebook photos. 90% got fat and each one had some guy that was dressed like he was still 18. Trying to hang onto his youth.
a) I didn’t like HS
b) I don’t want to go back to see what has happened to all the good looking girls.
c) Its a 16 hour drive at least or a multi-legged several hundred dollar flight with no where to stay at night
d) my HS was 50% hicks, 40% d-bags, 5% rednecks, 5% ganstas.
e) I am anti-social

Speaking of College BB records
http://www.grinnell.edu/athletics/mbasketball/mbk11principia
My alma matter tonight. This is near the NCAA D3 record for most points in a half (set by Lincoln University with 104 in 2006).
The Grinnell College men’s basketball team shattered a school record for points in a half on its way to sailing past Principia College 150-90 Monday night at Darby Gymnasium.
The Pioneers, who snapped a two-game losing streak while improving to 5-2, erupted for 94 points in the opening half with the aid of sizzling 3-point shooting that saw them hit 51.4 percent from beyond the arc (19-of-37) in the first 20 minutes. The 94 points betters the previous school mark of 88 points, established three times including once this season.
Grinnell’s total point output was the most in a game since the Pioneers scored 163 against Fontbonne in the 2008-09 season.
Griffin Lentsch ’13 (left) tied his career high with 36 points, including a 10-of-17 performance from 3-point land. Scott Kaitz ’11 (right) dished out a career-high 13 assists, while Kale Knisley ’11 grabbed 10 rebounds.
Others in double-figure scoring for Grinnell were Aaron Levin ’14 with 19 points, Matt Chalupa ’12 with 15, Matt Skelly ’12 with 11 and Jack Adams ’13 with 10. Marques Valdez ’13 had four of Grinnell’s 19 steals as the Pioneers forced 32 turnovers altogether.
Todd Zimmerman had 19 points for Principia, which fell to 2-4.
The game was never in question. Tied at 4-all early, Grinnell reeled off 15 consecutive points for a 19-4 lead at the 15:44 mark. Lentsch had two 3-pointers during that span and Chalupa one.
Grinnell continued to roll and snapped the scoring record for a half when Jesse Ney’s ’13 3-pointer with 1:05 left put the Pioneers up 89-48. Chalupa added a 3-pointer with :19 left and Kaitz scored right before the buzzer to put Grinnell ahead 94-50. The Pioneers led by as many as 62 points in the second half before winning by 60.

This is Grinnell basketball
The five goals:
• Take 100 shots per game
• Have half of your shots be 3-pointers
• Force 32 turnovers
• Offensive rebound 33% of your misses
• Take 30 more shots than the opposition
Basically press and shoot lots of 3s.

Also change all your players ever 90 seconds
