In last night's JD, we were talking about traveling. More specifically, flying. If you're reading this JD, and not on a mobile phone, there's a decent chance you're not stuck in an airport right now. Congratulations!
So, first, tell us where you've traveled to. What place was nice? What place do you never want to return to?
Second, where do you want to go, but have never been to?
Third, what's your travel horror story? Let us all join in the misery!
For me, the place I wasn't excited about, but really enjoyed, was Austin, TX. At first I figured, it's Texas. Doesn't sound like my kind of place. But the folks there were amazingly nice (Portland-level nice!), the entertainment was top-notch, and the food is simply legendary. You haven't had BBQ until you've visited the city of Lockhart, plus the Salt Lick BBQ.
On the other hand, I'm in no hurry to return to Lake Tahoe, CA. For many families in California, it's the designated winter vacation spot, for skiing. Some schools even have a mid-winter break called "ski week," where families head to Tahoe. But if you're not a big skiier, you begin to wonder what you're doing there. It's on the Nevada border, so you end up next to a bunch of older, smoky casinos, and there may be a few (blah) shows. The food is lacking, and by day 2, you're thinking about driving to Reno. And if you're on vacation, and think a drive to Reno will improve it, something has gone wrong.
I'd really like to make it to Italy one of these days. Disappear for a week, and travel through Italy, enjoying the food, wine, and the people? Sounds like a fun week.
So, join in the fun. Let's hear some good travel stories. Wow us, scare us, your call.
