Nate McmIllan has met Rudy Fernández a few days ago. The real Rudy, that one who has played the last three games, and not the underused one who goes into the court with orders to stand behind the three-point line waiting for the ball. The number 5 is capable of doing much more than that. He has proven it once he has had minutes, a bit of confidence and freedom to play on the court as himself.

Against Minnesota, Golden State and Milwaukee, Rudy scored points, and not just by triples, created plays, got assists, helped with rebounding and defense …He was Rudy again. The one who played for Joventut, which according to his profile in the official website of the NBA dispute the French league, and the Spanish team. Since coming to the NBA, the guard has never had his last three-game numbers: 19.3 points and 6.3 assists. His season had been so dark that in this trio of games he has scored a quarter of the total number of his points since it started.

But it didn´t happen because Mc Millan was iluminated and suddenly decided to give room to Rudy, but because the Blazers have been attacked by injuries again. In these last three games Roy couldn´t play, team´s star, all star twice, and unfortunately for Rudy, the starter at his same position, and the player that absorbs most of the game. Despite the unquestionable quality of Roy, it´s hard to believe that a player like Rudy, who can do many things on the court, has no more presence with the Blazers.

It would be a Christmas dream that these three games change Nate´s idea about Rudy, a coach with a reputation of stubborness. At least, Rudy has taken his chance and has demonstraten hits commitment to this team, which is much more than he did last year. The nightmare can resurrect when Roy comes back again, likely to miss the next three games because of his ailing knee. Then we’ll see if Nate has really met the real Rudy ..

That’s how he plays with the Spanish National Team and Nate seen that firsthand at the Olympics and during the FIBA World Championships but with BRoy out he’s had to change how the Blazers play. And, so far, Rudy has been one of the guys (not the only one for sure) that’s really shone in thru it. I just hope that when BRoy comes back he doesn’t try and put Rudy back in the box and relegate him back to a three point shooter only. Kind of explains where a lot of his frustration last year came from though don’t ya think?

I’d like to know what the difference between the Rudy who disappeared during last years playoffs when Roy was out and the Rudy who is studding out during this Roy outage?
