It was actually chill

I just laid a blanket down on my roof and while the clouds would completely cover it occasionally, I was still able to watch the entire progression.

There’s a new Portland SB Nation blog. Welcome the Stumptown Footy.

Hello there Timbers fans, or other general MLS/soccer fan. As you can probably tell, this is SB Nation’s newest sports blog focused on the brand new MLS side: the Portland Timbers. It’s been a long time coming, but as the Timbers ascend from the D2 in the US to the top flight league, we are embarking on a new era in our history, probably the biggest one yet. Think of this blog as a categorical timeline following all of the events, big and small, with an added dose of wily opinion and humor, of course.

by hoodieNation on Dec 21, 2010 11:13 AM PST up reply actions

This is the idea I extracted from the mods discussing it last night.

Several JDers would be talking familiarly and friendlyly to one another about the Blazer game in the front page recap post. Non-JDers would see this and the JDers would seek to be inclusive in their JD-esque familiar discussion. Theoretically, this would somehow lead to non-JDers potentially seeing the JD as a more reasonable place to have off-topic conversation and keep the community aspect of BEdge alive.

I think.

She'll be right.

Indeed we've requested Blazer talk in Blazer threads

As well, if you guys think stuff is over the line (personal attack, objectionable), please flag it.

Dave requested Blazer talk to go outside of the JD a while back, but we’ve been lax about it. As part of Dave’s recent post, we’re also re-enforcing his previous requests.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:35 AM PST up reply actions

I've never emailed Dave, but i'm considering it on this topic.

I don’t see any problem with casual Blazer talk in here. And i’d rather not have to worry about breaking site policy.

by hoodieNation on Dec 21, 2010 11:40 AM PST up reply actions

Casual talk tends to turn into in-depth talk

On gamedays, postgame, about any news stories, etc.

I mentioned last night that some of the more interesting topics started in here could have made great fanposts too. We could use a few more of those.

We’re not banning the word “Blazers” in the JD or anything. Just trying to give a push for the conversation to go in the right direction. This is intended as the OT part of the site and all.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:42 AM PST up reply actions

Is there concern that there isn't enough content in the fanposts??

I think more fanposts are posted on BE per day than on any other SBN site

(oh, and sorry if this has been hashed and rehashed before… this is all news to me)

by sammy on Dec 21, 2010 11:46 AM PST up reply actions

We'd like to make sure we keep high quality fanposts

And the JD folks could do some stuff to basically set the standard, considering the amount of outstanding analysis in here.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:47 AM PST up reply actions

If you expect high quality fan posts, then delete ...

the fan posts that are of poor quality. That, however, is independent of the main page or even the JD.

"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

by AK1984 on Dec 21, 2010 11:49 AM PST up reply actions

That's true, which is why I wouldn't flag ...

such fan posts. Personally, my choice is to ignore those that I don’t feel are up to snuff.

Yet, with regards to those that don’t meet my admittedly high standards, I still believe that they’ve got a place in this big tent here.

Hoodie also noted we’ll keep a light touch on fanposts in general, but would like to know the ones people are most unhappy with.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:54 AM PST up reply actions

I generally don't find it's my place to tell the mods

what is interesting or uninteresting analysis. There are few fanposts that are blatantly against site rules and those that are are taken down quickly. I don’t ever wade through the fanposts because, honestly, I just don’t care to seek out Blazers talk with people that only want to talk about the Blazers. On the otherhand, I’ll happily talk about the Blazers when a subject comes up organically in a general basketball conversation (the likes of which we often have here).

by sammy on Dec 21, 2010 12:09 PM PST up reply actions

So we are being asked to not do what we want to do so JD'ers will make more fanposts?

Why not just ask us to make more fanposts? I’m sure people would answer the call.

Always intense.

by dario argento on Dec 21, 2010 11:52 AM PST up reply actions

Well it's not the goal to force you guys to do fanposts or formally ask

Just asking for Blazer talk to stick in non-OT threads. If that leads to fanposts or fanshots, great, but if not, no problem too.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:58 AM PST up reply actions

If I was going to e-mail Dave something.

It would be that as wise as the idea of taking issues to an email makes sense, this needs to be a public thing because people keep not knowing the rules on this issue.

She'll be right.

by idoltime on Dec 21, 2010 11:48 AM PST up reply actions

No, I think people grasp "the rules on this issue."

Instead, there’s heavy backlash from some folks to the rules themselves.

Even over at the main page, some of the folks who I consider top commenters (e.g., Royster) question the change in direction on that part of Blazersedge — which has mostly to do with the tone of posters — and that indicates to me there might be a widening disconnect between the content provider, Dave, and his appointed mods v. the commenters.

As I said, though, I’ll be interested to see how it all plays out in the long run—good, bad, or otherwise.

"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

by AK1984 on Dec 21, 2010 11:55 AM PST up reply actions

There's that too.

It just seems that the proper forum for any of this discussion would be in an chat thread with Dave on this topic which hasn’t really ever happened. .?

I am curious to see how it goes. The thing is that changes were already brewing do to the increase in size of this place, and we lose people all the time. These rule “changes” (reaffirmations?) reflect Dave’s desire to utilize the structures already in place in an effort to see if they can handle the increased number of commenters.

She'll be right.

by idoltime on Dec 21, 2010 12:00 PM PST up reply actions

I assume Dave will do an open chat about ...

this at some point. For me, it isn’t a big deal — since I partake in both the main page and the JD, as well as can at least try to adhere to the changes (e.g., nicer tone in main page threads, treat JD as strictly an off-topic forum, et cetera) — yet, it’ll be hard on some folks.

At the main page, the focus on a nicer tone will likely affect the newcomers the most — especially since that’s where the flood of newcomers has settled for the most part — yet, the changes here will likely affect some long-time posters.

In an odd way, this feels like the opposite of the disasterous baseball brouhaha from a few months ago. It was then that an off-topic discussions was lambasted by some folks — which seemed ridiculous in light of the JD being an off-topic thread — and that led to a couple folks on both sides of that argument choosing to leave.

Also, I doubt expecting th JD-centric posters to venture into the main page or fan posts will lead to a nicer, more analytically based discussion across the whole site.

In all likelihood, those folks who are already crossover posters — such as myself — will continue to be that, while JD-centric posters may very well decide to not make the wanted adjustedments and fold up shop.

While the goal seems noble — with non-JD posters and JD-centric posters becoming crossover posters who live in harmony — I don’t think it’s practical and, well, it reminds me of Kevin Pritchard’s inability as a GM to understand roster balance when he jammed square pegs into round holes.

"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

I do understand the reasoning... maybe i'm just being lazy.

I don’t like having several tabs open and trying to juggle different convos. The JD totally solved that for me. And in general I don’t have a ton to talk about just concerning the Blazers, so it’s nice to be able to bounce around.

by hoodieNation on Dec 21, 2010 11:46 AM PST up reply actions

Timmay just banned the word Blazers

I that is what I read anyway

Harry Bosch: "Everybody counts....or nobody counts."

by 92wastheyear on Dec 21, 2010 1:22 PM PST up reply actions

I will. I'm not trying to be a troublemaker timmay, but to me this a whole new level of control that is being attempted.

“You’re free to talk about basketball on this basketball blog, but only where we tell you to.” I’m just very disappointed in that notion.

Alright, I’ll be a good little boy, say “yes sir. Thank you sir may I have another?” But I won’t like it, and this site will not like what I have to say in the main page posts. The trolls out there are turning me more nasty by the day.

If this rule keeps up I will be visiting Blazer Sedge less often, as I enjoy the fast, free-flowing basketball discussion that occur in the JD with this community we’ve developed. I enjoy the different personalities in here and evolving opinions on players by people. I feel like we are losing that.

The JD to me, feels like something that thrives with spontaneity, a place where (as long as appropriate) anything goes. The best JD’s happen organically. Half of the talk in here is about the Blazers.

Always intense.

by dario argento on Dec 21, 2010 11:47 AM PST up reply actions

"You’re free to talk about basketball on this basketball blog, but only where we tell you to." I’m just very disappointed in that notion.

Well, the entire reason for the creation of the JD was because OT comments were all over the site. This was the OT repository. People just got to know each other and started moving Blazer talk over here that used to be elsewhere.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:49 AM PST up reply actions

What the JD was originally created for and what it has become are two different things though.

If you tell people they can’t talk about Blazer related stuff where is the line drawn? Can people talk about fantasy basketball? The draft? Potential trades?

I see the reasoning behind this Timmay, I just think it is fundamentally wrong. I understand you probably have to tow the company line here and back Dave up regardless, I’m just frustrated. Talking basketball in the JD is probably my favorite thing about this entire site, and the reason I spend so much time here, and now I’m being told I can’t do it anymore.

Always intense.

I don’t see any reason fantasy talk would be an issue. I mean, we have fantasy leagues in the JD. And like I said, we’re not banning the word “Blazers” or anything, just trying to move most of the insightful stuff back into the site overall.

(I’m headed out and won’t be answering for a while, just a heads up)

With comments like these (and sammy's down there).

I cannot help but feel like the JD has grown as an entity into something that is beyond the scope of BEdge.

I'd always considered it a subsection of the site,

somewhat removed from the rest of it. These ‘communities within the community’ often pop up in internet forums with large populations.

by sammy on Dec 21, 2010 12:12 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, that's why I think of the 90-9-1 principle.

90% of the folks who come to Blazersedge are just readers, 9% of the folks who come to Blazersedge post in the main page and fan posts, and 1% of the folks who come to Blazersedge participate in the JD subculture.

I don't think it's beyond the scope of BE.

I honestly wouldn’t go to a random chat room just to talk to current JD’rs (even though I love you guys) if it wasn’t Blazer’s related. Its the common ground that we all have. Taking it out of the JD just makes this a chat room. I have no real problem going to and commenting in FanPosts, but they never really become free flowing to me as I always feel like my comments have to be on topic all the time.

The JD needs the Blazers in it.

by hoodieNation on Dec 21, 2010 12:12 PM PST up reply actions

I totally agree with this

I comment outside of the JD but I don’t want to be forced to take all Blazer talk out there. The experiences are different and they’re likely to stay that way.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 2:47 PM PST up reply actions

Interesting.

I always considered the JD more like a well or free forum where one didn’t feel constrained to stay on topic. Poo-poo-ing basketball talk in the JD seems antithetical to the nature of having a place on the site where the conversation is supposed to flow freely.

Yeah, I'm worried that not having an area where we can talk about the team on general

as opposed to discussing individual aspects of the team, could lead to diminished discussion overall. Like I posted yesterday, if I have to take any comment about the team somewhere else, I probably just won’t hang out that much. And I don’t relegate all of my activity with this site to the JD either. I engage in GDT’s and post outside of here all the time, but even with that it’s not like all the fanposts are places to have ongoing discussions like the JD. Maybe it’ll be okay, but to me it seems to limit my interaction with the site overall. I should stop now, I’m sure I’m trying Timmay’s patience with my ongoing “gripes”.

This is the dumbest thing I've read in awhile, which is why I question the acumen of employed NBA scouts.
“People always talk about defense, but I think (the Magic are) going to score the ball more. They’re going to have more offensive possessions, which is less time defending.”

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/12/21/nba-scouts-magic-trade-arenas-turkoglu-richardson/

In reality, playing at a faster pace for more offensive possessions leads to more defensive possessions going the other way.

Their account systems got hacked, and over a million username/passwords leaked

They were encrypted, but with a poor encryption algorithm so many of them are quickly broken.

Do a search for gawker hack real quick and there’s tons of fun reading, including the Gawker guys originally not worrying about it because it only affected “the peasants” on the site. Turned out, the people who run the site got hit too.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:51 AM PST up reply actions

I thought of Gawker the other day regarding the change in rules here.

Yet, if I recall correctly, the purge that went down about a year ago at Gawker — which involved commenter house cleaning and the somewhat elitist star commenting system — was more poorly received there than the slight changes here. Though, I do expect that the changes here will produce some casualties. I’m very curious as to how it plays out, too.

We're not looking to do any major housecleaning

Dave honestly just re-affirmed the rules he’s used for years. We’re not making any wholesale changes. It was only a couple months ago that Dave posted his own JD, asking for folks to not call out other users, and to take Blazer conversations to the rest of the site.

We’re really not implementing any new rules.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 11:53 AM PST up reply actions

Right, what happened at Gawker was an enormous overhaul. I was never a commenter at any ...

I remember it well too.

I don’t see any sign at all (and I see private mod mails) that Dave has any intent on a major overhaul here. Quite the opposite. He’s just trying to make sure the existing rules are re-established since things went nutso after the crazy start to the season.

I’m as guilty of talking Blazers in the JD as you guys. So I’m adjusting as well.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 12:02 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I also recall that some of the lower-level mods at the Gawker sites were incognito.

That isn’t the case here, for there’s transparency in who’s the figurative manager (i.e., Dave) and who are his assistant managers (i.e., the mods). The commenters are similar to the grunts working the department stoor floor, with corporate being the folks running SB Nation.

But K P since you’ve gone, I admit that I was wrong!

I keep trying to get us C P 3 but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the trade I’m lost without you

How am I ever gonna get rid of these blues ?
K P I’m so lonely all the time
Everywhere I call agents I get so confused
You’re the only thing that’s on my mind

Oh my war room is so cold at night and I miss you more each day
Only you can make it right no I’m not too proud to say

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How am I gonna draft strong without you? I need you by my side!

Unfortunately, I think that was a case in which the ...

mods — even if it was just Tim and Cabby — should’ve stepped in here and laid down the law before everything derailed and people turned on one another personally.

The anti-baseball anti-football contingent never had a leg to stand on, since the whole point of having an off-topic thread is to create a forum wherein everything is fair game.

Heck, the reasonable solution for someone regarding a subthread that doesn’t interest them is to just skip by it.

I mean, shoot, you’ll never see me comment in the tech-based subthreads — since I don’t care about stuff such as the Mac v. PC debate — yet, a lot of people like those discussions, so more power to them.

But re-hashing that debate will do no good whatsoever.

by jksnake99 on Dec 21, 2010 3:05 PM PST up reply actions

It's just another place with another set of rules.

You would have the front page, fanposts, fanshots, junk drawer, and a daily open thread.

Seems like a lot of clutter. Plus at some point they’ll just have the same problem with people talking about Blazer related subjects that already have fanposts.

If the goal is to make people use the fanposts more, then a daily open thread doesn’t help at all.

by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 21, 2010 3:17 PM PST up reply actions

Is that goal to make people use fanposts more? I thought the goal was to make people use the frontpage more and make the site less cliquey.

He doesn't look comfortable though.

It’s hard to judge players who aren’t doing what you know they can do. We know Babbitt can shoot, but he just isn’t. It will be interesting to see what happens when he calms down a bit.

Yeah, I expect him to at least be passable on offense.

Even then, though, his defense will always be suspect at best and porous at worst.

The lead singer of Street Corner was sooooo annoying to watch

the dumb colored glasses matching the clothes, whatever he was doing with his legs when he was singing….just annoying to watch.

On the Rocks was really cool. I am actually surprised they lasted as long as they did, since it seemed like the judges had no idea what to think of them.

Totally with you there on the legs

It looked like he was having a seizure sometimes. I think OtR was hurt partially by the judges and partially because it felt like the Backbeats had a free pass to the finals from the beginning, and no matter what they did they would move on. I never got into them, they were way too serious and even on their fun songs it looked like they were trying way too hard. “Look at us, we can have fun too! No really, look! We’re spontaneous!”

So many entendres. So little time.

by GustyJ on Dec 21, 2010 4:32 PM PST up reply actions

lol, I had no idea what I had said when I read your subject line.

I agree with the Backbeats. When the judges picked the songs, it wasn’t really fair cause they clearly said they picked a song that was right up the Backbeats alley. For the other groups they were like, “This song is gonna be tough cause it’s out of their comfort zone.”

It was like they were pretending to be serious. The girl that usually sang the lead constantly had the sad puppy dog eyes going on.

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely

by skywaker9 on Dec 21, 2010 3:23 PM PST up reply actions

Love should be an allstar IMO but won’t because of his team’s record. Griffin is deserving of consideration but there are 5-6 forwards ahead of him.

by jksnake99 on Dec 21, 2010 3:22 PM PST up reply actions

Who has a better TS%?

Love is poor from the field but Griffin is awful from the line. It’s an interesting debate IMO.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 3:24 PM PST up reply actions

Looked it up myself

.571 for Love, .542 for Griffin.

You have to give it to Love really.

I don’t think its really that close actually.

by jksnake99 on Dec 21, 2010 3:26 PM PST up reply actions

I do

But you have to give it to Love. It’s clear by the stats he should be in over Griffin, but it is close. A couple of big weeks from Blake and the tables may turn.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 3:29 PM PST up reply actions

Blake is a long way from averaging 15 rpg

If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you

by momomoses7 on Dec 21, 2010 3:59 PM PST up reply actions

Love is a better rebounder

Griffin is a better finisher
Love is a better shooter
Griffin is a better defender
Love is better from the line
Griffin is a better passer

There is an argument both ways.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 4:03 PM PST up reply actions

I take issue with the last one

Kevin Love is the best outlet passer in the NBA

If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you

by momomoses7 on Dec 21, 2010 4:04 PM PST up reply actions

Lower assist%

Love is great but Griffin has incredible court vision.

Also, you have to take pace into account when you consider Love’s rebounding total (Timberwolves play at the fastest pace in the league). Love’s TRB% is still 4 points higher, but that difference isn’t as large as the one between their passing %s.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 4:08 PM PST up reply actions

Love’s rebound % is even more amazing when you consider the amount of time he spends on the perimeter on offense.

by jksnake99 on Dec 21, 2010 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

His TRB% is the higest in the NBA since Dennis Rodman. This is a pretty big deal

If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you

by momomoses7 on Dec 21, 2010 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

It certainly is

Griffin might be the best rookie since LeBron – that is also a big deal. A 20TRB% and a 17AST% is ridiculous.

These are two historic and unique players

Love is physically inept, Griffin is just misguided

Love has an awful defensive on/off (although not Al level, which was an eye opener [though other defensive metrics still think he is OK])

Can’t get into Griffins on/off right now. Gimme 5.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 4:29 PM PST up reply actions

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 5:04 PM PST up reply actions

tough question— Yao is leading the voting, but he won’t play obviously. That could lead to Duncan being the starting C (or Pau) and opening a 6th forward spot.

In my opinion, the only player listed as a C on the ballot who is deserving of an allstar bid is Nene.

The coach, likely Pop, will get to choose a starter while Stern will get to choose the guy who replaces him on the roster.

by jksnake99 on Dec 21, 2010 3:35 PM PST up reply actions

The coaches are supposed to vote for 2 reserve guards, 2 reserve forwards, one reserve C and 2 wildcards.

Here’s what I expect will happen:
- Kobe, Paul, Durant, Gasol and Yao voted as starters
- DWill, Westbrook, Nowitzki, Duncan, Ginobili, Anthony and one other (could be e.g. Nene, Nash, Love, Griffin… lots of possibilities) selected by the coaches
- Pop announces Duncan as the starter to replace Yao
- Stern places Griffin on the team if he isn’t already (game is at Staples, Griffin is popular, etc.)
- Love gets hosed

Guess the movie from the reviews:
Is there a statute of limitations for how many good actors can be wasted in a bad movie?
Worse than awful.
Other things it’s lacking include laughs, coherence, and a reason to exist
I once saw a high school production of ‘Grease’ where they had some technical difficulties and had to stall for time, so the director sent the main actors onstage, in character, to improvise a scene. [This movie] feels like 100 minutes of that.

I know lots of people who loved the first one.

I just can’t take those formulaic “unnerving” movies where the whole point is to make you so uncomfortable via the neurotic habits of the characters that your skin starts to crawl with agitation … not humor, mind you, but just rage that you paid good money to watch people have idiotic hangups that you yourself could experience at any moment of any day.
Burn down something important accidentally. Yeah, no sweat.

I remember watching the first one on DVD

Everyone said it was amazing. I kept waiting for “the funny” to start… eventually I just got to the credits instead.

I wondered if this was one of those movies, like others from that time period (American Pie, Something About Mary, I’m also sure there are modern examples I’m forgetting) which ends up being more fondly remembered by those who saw it in a laughing theater than if you see it at home in front of a smaller group or alone.

by Timmay! on Dec 21, 2010 4:29 PM PST up reply actions

i saw it in the theater and wanted to walk out.

Another of those, where the whole theater was roaring and I wanted to sleep/cry/wretch was Austin Powers 2. Barf. What a waste of time/money/space.

One year we were wondering about three blocks from the tree lighting and thought, hmmm, here’s something we’ve never done. What the heck. We started wandering toward it and got about 500 meters away when the crush set in. Suddenly it was front row at a 1964 Beatles concert and Elvis just made a surprise appearance. We got the heck outta there ASAP.
I did cruise by a few days later, once the horde thinned out and, yeah, it was kinda pretty. But give me a barren wooded snowy hillside in eastern Oregon anyday as far as x-mas goodness goes..

But it’s a long way to the playoffs, and plenty of time to figure it out. And they have Dwight in the middle.

That being said, I also have no idea how they’re going to make these pieces fit successfully. If SVG does it, he should get COY automatically. But struggling a few days after you revamp your roster, against a dominant title contender? No biggie.

Tonight I'm having freshly made pasta in a browned butter with sage from my

garden extravaganza. Do you like pasta? Cook some pasta, any kind, to the al dente stage. In the meanwhile brown some butter slowly in a large skillet and throw in some (preferably fresh) or dried herbs at the end. Drain the pasta and toss it with the brown butter and herbs. Add a little cream or milk and sprinkle it with (preferably freshly grated) parmesan, toss again and you’ve got yourself a meal. Cheap and good and filling.

I’ve done a little bit of this before, but this sounds yummy. I wonder how well a non-dairy milk would work in it.

BTW, anyone attempting this should remember that there is a difference between burnt and brown butter and make sure to read up on how to brown butter if they don’t know.

She'll be right.

Pretty interesting play in the CHA-OKC game… with Kwame on the line, there was a double lane violation, which led to a jump ball at mid court and Kwame’s made FT being waived off… but Charlotte won the tip.

OKC was in the lane first, so if CHA had stayed out, the FT would have been good, OKC ball and if it missed Kwame would have got a 2nd shot.

As it happened though, CHA won the tip and lost the FT but got an extra possession. If you were a really good offensive team (ie averaging way over 1 point/poss) and you are really confident you could win the tip, that’s actually better for you…

CHA missed the shot though.

(After I commented on his blog about the near impossibility of this, I was basically told that I didn’t know what I was talking about, although he thanked me for responding)

I forget who mentioned it yesterday, but Collins has a career of cleaning up crappy defensive squads — with Stan Albeck, Don Chaney, Leonard Hamilton, and Eddie Jordan being his predecessors — and, in turn, making them above average on that side of the ball.

Roy is out for a while longer and I do short term pick-ups on FBB

Roy has been pretty good the last few, just depends if he stays on a streak. More of an assist/steal threat than Harden and he makes more threes.

Definitely a contest seeing as Harden isn’t getting those minutes.

Just waiting for a trade to go through then I'm gonna pick someone up

Has to be a SG or SG/SF. Thinking about Josh Howard too. Not many options really. You think Brooks will start to give Harden more minutes? If he get around 30 consistently he could be good long term. Sounds like he and Thabo should really switch roles

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 8:09 PM PST up reply actions

They don't need help at the 3/4

They’ve got that pretty well covered between Dirk, Marion, and Butler. DeShawn at starting 2 is a spot you can improve on, though.

by sammy on Dec 21, 2010 8:39 PM PST up reply actions

They kind of need a shooter in that spot though. He would be good, but I could see Terry playing crunch time ahead of him unless he got better as a spot up shooter

Iggy can slide to the 3 in crunch time.

Iggy’s not a good shooter, but he moves very well off the ball, is a great playmaker, great transition scorer, and would bolster the Mavs perimeter defense.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 9:18 PM PST up reply actions

I wouldn't say he "duplicates" Shawn Marion.

He’s twice the player, even though their skills might be slightly similar.

by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 21, 2010 8:45 PM PST up reply actions

Point is,

the marginal difference between Melo and Marion/Butler or Crash and Marion/Butler is far outweighed by the difference between Iggy and Stevenson.

by sammy on Dec 21, 2010 8:50 PM PST up reply actions

I think you're underrating Crash

Although he has been shooting badly this year. He is miles better than Marion or Butler are at this point in their careers.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 9:19 PM PST up reply actions

I’d be worried about him going forward though. His style of play has already caused a number of injuries and he’s only getting older. Iggy has had no such issues so far

If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you

by momomoses7 on Dec 21, 2010 9:22 PM PST up reply actions

Oh I agree Iggy is a damn good fit there

Jason RIchardson would’ve worked too, but this way you can run with Kidd/Terry/Iggy/Dirk/Chandler in crunch time, which is terrifying.

by MadBlaze on Dec 21, 2010 9:25 PM PST up reply actions

I love Crash,

but I think you’re underrating Butler/Marion. Both are really fine defensive small forwards and are both fairly effective on offense without needing a lot of touches.

We're seeing it in imax 3d

I assume if nothing else, the visuals will be good.

I also just learned tonight that we can use our credit card to buy 2 for 1 tickets. Word is we can do it as often as once a month, which is way more often than we go see movies.

yeah, i hope they keep that around for a bit. it was around for a long time and then they cancelled it for almost a year and just brought it back. i think it’s only up to 14$ off, but i ain’t sure (i’m guessing you mean the fandango visa deal)

Yeah, the fandango visa deal

Imax 3d is stupid expensive, but we got $19 off.

nice! that’s promising, i don’t think it used to take that much off. every time i’ve been to imax i’ve used some coupon or deal to at least make it somewhat cheap. I really do hope they keep that deal around for some time

i dunno, i still don’t think i’ll use it. one of the great things about the jd is that it was a catch all place for everything here — blazers, other nba, other sports, music, movies, celebrities, other bedgers personal lives — EVERYTHING was discussed here.

i don’t like this

yeah, i’m right there with you bud. the free flowing discussion of the JD is what made it magical. now we’re like a group of people sitting around with a giant elephant in the room so our conversations are going to be stunted

by GiantBlazer on Dec 22, 2010 1:41 AM PST up reply actions

I'm giving it a go

I think it could be good so long as things are kept somewhat open to interpretation. A lot of the off beat stuff we talk about in here that is Blazer related should be OK. It’s just the long threads on players/stats/coaches that need to move.

I think it can work.

by MadBlaze on Dec 22, 2010 1:42 AM PST up reply actions

Neither do I. I emailed Dave this long-winded and articulate piece about what I think makes the JD special, the organic way in which in develops,

the anything goes method by which stuff gets posted and that I think this is doing a disservice to the basketball community on here, and his response was “You can talk about anything you want in the JD, just not the Blazers.”

I’m a little disappointed in this rule.

Always intense.

I go away for 5 days in Vegas, and all hell breaks loose.

First, Magic blows up the team with the mega trade, then my Eagles pull possibly the greatest comeback in history, and LaMarcus turned into LaStudus. I didn’t get to see much of the team, but one of the interesting things the opposing announcers were mentioning Aldridge was killing them on a side pick-and-roll with Dre. This used to be a guy that rolled to a basket twice per season!

Anyway, has he been as dominant as numbers suggested? Perhaps the light switch has finally gone off and truly sees himself as the man on this team?

The cake was a lie.

by GiantBlazer on Dec 22, 2010 1:52 AM PST up reply actions

Should be do-able. Isn't Rogers going to be out?

I am actually rather fond of the Jersey/A. I remember pulling for them in Superbowl or two. I want to see them make it as a wildcard.

Can’t say I share that same feelings for Dallas and Washington. Just want to see them lose, lose, and lose. So, this year has been excellent to me.

The cake was a lie.

by xedubx on Dec 22, 2010 1:57 AM PST up reply actions

nah, they said today Rogers will be back for that game, which sucks. I liked you guys a whole lot more before this year. I was always a big fan of McNabb even when I really hated you guys for constantly beating us. I very much enjoy Michael Vick’s athletic talent but dislike him for the obvious stuff but also ‘cause I think he’s kind of obnoxious. and DJack proved this weekend that he’s a showboating punk.
it’s funny, before this year the only team I really hated in the NFC East was the cowgirls. Washington hasn’t really been relevant enough for me to care for such a long period of time that I sort of stopped caring and with you guys the rivalry was always fun and, as i said, I have nothing but mad respect for McNabb. This season made Philly skyrocket in my “dislike” rankings.

Still on the Greg Oden bandwagon. "Whenever I feel like I can compete with the best."

by GiantBlazer on Dec 22, 2010 2:01 AM PST up reply actions

Jackson does need to tone it down, and I am for choreographed celebration and all.

He did cost us a TD last year and I am afraid that he might cost us one in the playoffs at some of the stuff he pulls.

Vick is starting to convert me, though. I hear too much positive stuff out of the lockerroom to dislike him. It’s always nice to see a redemption story. But yeah, I can’t really blame u for the dislike scale going up, especially after last Sunday.

It’s a shame with what McNabb is going through, but I can’t say it’s really a surprise to me or many of Eagles fans. It did look like he lost his fastball last year to a lot of us, and it’s probably just a continuation of that at this point of his career.

The cake was a lie.

by xedubx on Dec 22, 2010 2:09 AM PST up reply actions

yeah, sadly I think McNabb is not long for this league. he’s still got talent and has a pretty phenomenally strong arm but he’s going to need a very good O-line if he’s going to continue to succeed.

Still on the Greg Oden bandwagon. "Whenever I feel like I can compete with the best."

by GiantBlazer on Dec 22, 2010 2:27 AM PST up reply actions

it’s gonna be one or the other. if the Chargers continue to win, Phillip Rivers is going to be prominent in the discussion as well, though.

Still on the Greg Oden bandwagon. "Whenever I feel like I can compete with the best."

by GiantBlazer on Dec 22, 2010 2:37 AM PST up reply actions

From a glance

Brady is the most efficient, Rivers puts up big numbers yards wise but turns it over the most and Vick is efficient but also runs for 50+ a game.

Tough choice

by MadBlaze on Dec 22, 2010 3:42 AM PST up reply actions

Vick missed those 3 games, which hurts him I guess

Pats will have the best record (14-2 likely, unless they rest starters), Chargers probably the worst (10-6 at best) with the Eagles likely in the middle (10-6 at worst but likely 11-5 or 12-4).

Will be very interesting. Who do you think should win GB?

by MadBlaze on Dec 22, 2010 3:45 AM PST up reply actions

sadly. I, gotta say Vick deserves it the most, even though I don’t want him to win it. he’s an absolutely fantastic athlete

I'm pretty confident that those will be the starters unless China gets to vote Yao in

PG is really strong this year and the coaches might put 3 of them on the team after Paul.

Manu might get it over Monta because the Spurs are playing so dang well right now.
