Melo rental proposal from a Nuggets fan..
Carmelo Anthony, you know the guy. 25 PPG, 6-10 RPG, 2-5 assists per night. Unhappy being with the girl he likes and wanting to be with the one he feels longed for and truly loves and leaving the Nuggets with nothing as he goes for her (Knicks in a metaphorical sense incase you were wondering if he was leaving LaLa). So I was thinking of trades that would be more realistic to teams who would trade for Melo just for the salary dump, or for a possible playoff run and when I look at the Blazers I see a potential both. So what is the trade?
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=27ebs8y
Why Denver does it: To get .20 cents off the dollar in a trade for Melos value instead of 0, as well as getting some potentially good big men, whom we are in desperate need of despite Joel Pryzbilla's still recovering from injury and Oden still.. being injured we would definitely feel we could get these two into at least 70% health at the best at least because we were able to get Nene (our starting center) fully recovered from season ending injuries of the past and testicular cancer.
Denver also needs big men as Al Harrington, Nene and Shelden Williams were out rebounded by Kevin Love by 2 rebounds.
Why Portland does it: Is a Melo rental worse than 2.1 ppg, 3 RPG combined by 2 big men on 14,000,000 dollars payroll? Well I would think yes it is. To me it seems the general consensus on Oden is that he is a bust and he is just collecting a big fat paycheck, while Joel is still recovering from his injuries. With Melo not only do you clear about 14,000,000 in payroll by years end with very little to show for it, but you get Carmelo Anthony who will play very well alongside your group of good but not great role players and get you to the playoffs where you will be dangerous enough to make a possible title run. Now I know Nate is a prude man but I am sure he could see it in his heart to get along with Melo because he is good friends with his mentor George Karl.
Portland is also ranked 23rd in offense and a boost of Carmelo would really amp up their offense.
So who thinks this could work and would you approve of this trade?

Thanks but no thanks...
I would rather have a lottery pick then be bounced out of the playoffs in the first round by the Lakers.
witty statement here
no!
dont trade oden, he really is our only, albeit small, hope oƒ reopening the championship window
Michael Jordan is the Nicolas Batum of America
Andre Miller is da bomb; he is also the greatest thing since sliced bread and more american than apple pie
Hey Rudy! The spinning fade-a-way doesn't work!
I would be down with Roy for Melo though.

Wish they would go for this
We’d solve alot of problems with that trade and would give ourselves the chance at a clean rebuild in a year.
I don't really see the point
Adding Melo isn’t going to make our current roster a championship team. And as you said, he’s just be a half a season rental. So we give up Oden (I guess could potentially be good) and Joel who everyone loves for Melo who everyone hates and wouldn’t want to be here.
If we’re going to move Joel or Greg is HAS to be with the future in mind. Trading for Melo makes no sense. We’d just be wasting assets.
it would also be a salary dump
you are not getting any production out of Joel and Oden for 14,000,000 and you would have cleared up some salary cap to sign some free agents next year such as Marc Gasol or whoever your team fancies.
both centers
are expiring contacts

fair point
however, how about this, we give you Kenyon Martin, then you give us Roy’s awful contract and aging Andre Miller and boom, 33,000,000 wiped from your payroll to rebuild with next year.

Losing Dre makes us a lottery team for sure
Right now there is only a good chance that we’re a lottery team
And it's so much better to be 8th and get blown out in the first round by the Lakers?
I’d rather be a lottery team this year and combine our 1st round picks (our lottery and NO 1st) for a trade or better lottery pick.
That said, it would be crazy to trade for Melo unless he signed a long-term extension. But if he did, I’d give up Miller and Joel for him in a heart beat. Even if it didn’t work real well here, you could flip Melo in a year for something much better than Joel and a then 37 year old Miller.

Wouldn't it be ironic
If Portland, Phoenix, Houston and Memphis are all hovering around .500 going down the stretch in April and playing hot potato toss with the 8th seed?
“No!, We don’t want it, you take it!”
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
It would take front office shenanigans for that to actually happen
The players want to make the playoffs.
A-because they like to win
B-they get more money
No player is going to willingly tank because he thinks he might get to play games next year with a better draft pick.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
That may be true, but
Let’s say the organization wants to “take a look” at their younger players
So, they either trade off their veterans, or not play them as much in key portions of the game
There are ways to not win without being real obvious about it
I’m not as concerned about it this year, because the 2011 draft is so weak, but back in ’07 it was a whole ’nother story

I'm with you.
That’s why it has to be from the top down.
Players don’t go in to tank mode if they are in the playoff hunt.

I'm not convinced the lottery is really worth it this year
and I’m not sure I’m completely convinced we’d play the Lakers if we were the 8th seed. I know Dre will probably get traded off at some point but I’m hoping we’ll at least be able to look back and say it was worth it.
I'd do that in a heartbeat.
Nicolas Batum is the future of the Blazers
Andre is on an expiring contract
And Roy’s contract will probably be waived in the next CBA.
But I would still do a Roy and Joel for Carmelo. Portland cuts Roy and gets an unhappy superstar on an expiring contract.
Denver gets a questionable health wise all-star and a veteran on an expiring contract.

Portland would have around 35.2 million on the payroll if Andre’s option is not taken and Oden leaves and Carmelo leaves. So Portland’s not screwed if Carmelo leaves.
Denver would have around 43.3 million on the payroll if they don’t exercise Chaunceys team option and if they did they would be at 57.5 million.

I would love to rent Melo for awhile, as he would be fun to root for, but I'd rather have a lottery pick, the potentially more long term value that Joel could bring back elsewhere, and keep the dream of Oden alive than have Melo for half a season.
I’d be willing to trade just about any package if Melo agreed to an extension here though ( unlikely I know ).
Always intense.
make it a sign and trade
I want three years of Aldridge Melo and Roy…. ah nevermind rather have Oden
If you think Oden is a bust,
why do you want him?
We don’t think he is either.
If Oden does not give up on the Blazers, we should not give up on him.
I think oden is a bust , and I say NO.
Oden is worth the min amount we have to offer to keep him, and we should do it, if only to see the “oden” era all the way through.
The Faith don't panic, the Faith freaks out, burns out small farms and villages in the name of the Faith.
To phrase it a different way
What do Blazers fans think the team could get in an Oden trade? My feeling is that even just a half season of Carmelo Anthony seems optimistic.
Holding out for Hedo
The thing with Oden...
there’s the chance he never becomes productive as a Blazer. There is also a slim chance he fully recovers as a young, dominant powerhouse.
The latter possibility would probably throw our championship window wide open…depending somewhat on Roy’s status. That possibility is probably the one, slight chance we have of being relevant in the next few years.
Melo already said he would not go to the Blazers,
and even if we did manage to pry him away, He would just sulk and complain like Rudy did during the pre-season for a year, then leave via FA. I’ll take my chances with Oden.
