Junk Drawer 12-16-10 - An Open Apology to Andre Miller
How about that local sports team? I bet the Hawaii Bowl is going to be a fun game to watch. I might go to the game. It's probably going to be a high scoring game.
The daily Junk Drawer (JD) fanpost is the place for true off-topic conversation and people's random thoughts.. with a goal to foster community and people have really become a family here. So if you have a one-off thought, consider posting it here.
The rules about importance and significance of the topic are suspended in each JD but keep some of these basic rules in mind:
- Don't post lame photos and make sure you use a heading when you post cool photos.
- Personal attacks and swearing are cool but do not belong in the Junk Drawer. Save them for the main page and trade proposals.
- Don't talk about anything NBA or Blazers related in here. It defeats the purpose of the Junk Drawer. Do that outside of the Junk Drawer. I was going to post my apology to Dre until I remembered that rule.
- Do not use the Junk Drawer to call out or talk about users (Not counting Mortimer) from other Blazersedge threads.
As you try and navigate through the junk drawer, remember that you can use 'Z' or 'C/X' to mark a post as read and move on to the next one. Hitting shift-A will mark all comments as read.

I watched SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD and I liked it
I thought I’d be annoyed to death by it. I especially enjoyed the first 30 minutes.
I am not a fan of cameos though, and I thought the Brandon Routh Vegan parts were way lame… as was the cameo by Thomas Jane. WOW, IT’S THOMAS JANE HOW COULD THIS BE AM I DREAMING?
But, it was really fun and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Have you seen Hot Tub Time Machine yet?
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Going the Distance looks decent, although I'm admittedly a fan of Justin Long and ...
Charlie Day in a supporting movie role is also cool.

Yeah, it's out on DVD.

I’ll put that one on the bottom of the list maybe. Looks boring. TO ME.

What about Greenberg?
It’s an indie film starring Ben Stiller.

Yeah, the trailer looked pretty good for it.

wow, your a fan of justin long? that shocks me.
Charlie day is hilarious, but justin long is awful at acting. just awful. Jeepers creepers was his opus.

And it's a good movie
It’s the sequel to THE YEAR MY VOICE BROKE, another good movie for a young Mortimer.

Hmm I don't think I remember that one

Yes
The girl was awesome too. Funnily enough, Kickass was the worst character in the movie.

I liked when they covered themselves in the guts and walked around
A zombie TV show seems like such a no brainer, and now they can do the gore and language suitable for it and not have to be on HBO.
But there just wasn’t enough done with it. I hope the next seasons are longer and more ambitious.
#20
needs more desperation.
I felt like the people were sort of predictably walking around.
better script writers please.
That said, I just started reading an old sci-fi book, Time Storm. It’s like a zombie movie without the zombies. sorta like The Road.

Same as the black dude with the kid.
I don’t think they left it stranded for good, but it’s lame how short the season was. I don’t get that.
#20
SPOILER
What bugged me was that they said he stole the truck. I thought he might have been the guy who lured the zombies from the last attack to their location.
How is he going to find them now after they blew up the location they said they were going to be at?
Writing was mediocre.
Characters were flat, but it was still fun and compelling. Still have no idea if the show’s any good. I guess we’ll find out next season.

To be fair, the West ballot for centers is a joke.
Since Pau and Duncan are listed as PFs, the best choice at center is between Bynum, M Gasol, Nene, Kaman, Okafor…
yeah
some players should be listed on the ballot as F/C or something I guess (although Duncan has pretty clearly been a C throughout his career).

throughout meaning at times over the course of his entire career. Very few players who aren’t total stiff centers or pure point guards play one position throughout their career.

So another roof panel collapsed in Minny
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5926661
On the same day the NFL said it’s moving forward with plans to play Monday night’s Minnesota Vikings-Chicago Bears game at the University of Minnesota’s outdoor stadium, a fourth roof panel collapsed at the Metrodome.
Three other roof panels collapsed early Sunday after a blizzard, forcing the league to find another home for the game. Repair work was halted on Thursday at the Metrodome because of unsafe conditions after the fourth roof panel collapsed Wednesday night under heavy snow and ice.
The league is now pushing ahead with the TCF Bank Stadium plan, despite concerns about the site ranging from field conditions to player safety.
The school’s stadium wasn’t designed to host a game this late in the year, and potential problems range from a rock-hard field that could be unsafe for players to frozen water pipes. The stadium is also smaller than the Metrodome, possibly leaving some ticket holders out of luck.

I don’t think I am crazy about the square sides, but it is unique.
And I am not very knowledgable with arch-y stuff, so I may be in the minority. To me, I’d rather the sides be normal because when I see squares I think of commie buildings in Eastern Europe.

it’s intentional, and it’s too late to change the design wholesale at this point… I’ll post the final versions on here when it’s done… hopefully context and better rendering will alleviate some of the blockyness

few random thoughts
• Is there a drive way? Is the house really sitting directly on a curb like that? I guess I’m just confused as to the context of the structure in relation to the space around it.
• Not sure I get the slabs/sloped roof combo. If it’s purely for aesthetic (give it that ‘modern’ feel), isn’t one of the main tenets of modernism that every design element have its own purpose and logic?
• The location of the side studio (directly centered in the middle of the house) seems awkward to me. How is the space in front of and behind the studio to be utilized? Would it the surrounding space be more usable if the side studio were pushed to either the front of the back of the house?
• Does the front door really open directly into the middle of your main living space like that? I guess it’s hard to get a sense of scale but it seems like a glass front door opening into the middle of an open plan living area (which is what it looks like from here) seems strange, especially since everything is made of glass. Even if it weren’t centered, it seems to make more sense to me.
good questions...
context will help answer those, as will furniture… short answers are: Slab sides are both aesthetic and intended to be structural allowing for a more open floor plan without having to resort to engineered steel… there is a driveway, and what looks like a slab is the front porch minus texture mapping… side studio is intended to be accessed off the kitchen area rather than the living room (in back, sunken) or the Den/office area (in front immediately to the right of the font door)

I'm not a big fan of the modern, boxy look
I prefer more of a craftsman style. This style feels sterile to me.
That being said, for this look, it looks fine. I might prefer some windows on the sides, and while the fins (side wall extensions) add to the style, they might block some of the sun to the skylights.
Be mindful of where the downspouts will go, so you don’t end up having them take away from the look.
It also just occurred to me, this may be more glass than you’re allowed to build. I don’t know if you’ve already checked.
What kind of siding are you thinking of for the sides?
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.
it’s for a competition, so code only marginally applies… sides are intended to be poured in place concrete… the strips on the front would be reclaimed 2×6′s mounted with a 1" gap in a rain screen fashion… and the sun is never blocked from the skylights by the flanges… I’ve run it through several daylight simulations to check

now that it’s getting done, I’m not entirely happy with it to be honest, there are parts I like, but the second floor isn’t as clean as I’d like and it’s a little lacking in storage space

Out of curiosity
What are the dimensions of the main structure? Or the sq footage?
I’m not sure if my perspective is right. Is that just one dividing wall upstairs, creating 2 bedrooms? And no dividing walls on the ground floor?
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.
total SF is around 1500… there is a lightwell in the middle of the upstairs so there’s a bedroom on each end and a hole in the middle

The lightwell is an interesting idea
I was wondering why the skylights were pushed up so high. That could look great from the ground floor. How wide is the well?
What’s the bathroom situation?
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.
2 1/2 baths to 2 bedrooms… the only modern convenience I’m really missing is a garage (as noted by roybot and BF1)… light well is about 12 feet wide… I’ll post a couple more pics in a minute

Looks like a nice open, airy plan
A few things. Those both look like pretty long, skinny bedrooms. I wonder if there would be any better way to utilize the space.
The master faces the lake, yes? It would be awesome to have a deck coming off the bedroom. I’m not sure the best way to do it without breaking up the lines. Maybe a wide, but shallow arc?
The kitchen looks a little small, but I don’t know how big a priority that is. Is that pantry or fridge on the end of the kitchen?
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.

The neighbors rarely like modern design that looks very different from their houses ;-)
I like it, though maybe more in a city setting than in a suburb or the woods.
Ever looked at buildings from http://www.matteothun.com/ ?
He’s a modern designer and architect I like quite a bit, often combining a lot of bright local wood with concrete and glass. Looks very good in alpine regions, so it could look good in Oregon or Washington too.
Just remembered that I also forgot to send feedback on your site. I liked that too and had nothing major to improve. Maybe if you have certifications e.g. for environmental assessments, remodeling houses for better energy efficiency, etc. I would put those up. If not maybe look into getting those if that is relevant for your market. My architect-friend uses that as a very profitable side business to building complete new buildings and it’s all the rage since the state provides tax credits to home owners doing this. Don’t know about Oregon.

I'm struggling to set my vote.
I think BEdgefasts are amazing times but that a BEdgeoke night could have the opportunity to be epic beyond belief.
She'll be right.
they’re very different experiences, fo sho. BEdgeoke is gonna be pretty raucous and will almost certainly involve booze, which is good for the shyer types to open up a bit. BEdgefast would be very chill but would likely be conducive for more real conversation.
Still on the Greg Oden bandwagon. "Whenever I feel like I can compete with the best."
real? Conversation?

I think my next comment is going to get my banned
I just finished watching last night’s game. I thought it was a fun game to watch, and all I could thing about while watching it was that being a member of Blazeredge, takes away from my enjoyment of being a Blazers fan.
I spent the entire game looking flaws in the Blazers players and coach. That’s no way to enjoy anything.
I keep writing rants and deleting them. Bottom line is that being able to comment on Blazersedge diminishes my enjoyment of the Blazers. I can’t be excited about a win, because someone will find a way to crap on it.
I’m tired of taking a stand on mundane crap that doesn’t deserve anyone taking a stand on.
It’s not you, it’s me.
Andre Miller is still a douche bag and the reason for everything that has gone wrong since he has been signed. Don’t forget that.

I'm not nice, because I'll call people out when I feel they deserve it.
I, however, am more empathetic then many people often credit me for, since I always do my best to try and understand where someone is coming from regarding their viewpoint on a given topic—even when I don’t see eye to eye with them.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Oh, you're a nice boy whether you like it or not
You don’t wanna hurt anyone’s feelings. Especially now that you’ve gotten to know us, and us you.
I am super nice and I will “call people out” too if they’re being a jerk or sumthin’. That doesn’t preclude someone from being nice.
#20
I don't look to expressly hurt people's feelings with any malicious intent, but ...
it doesn’t bother me if somebody unfortunately gets upset over my remarks that I deem justified. If I feel saying something in a blunt, tactless manner is warranted, then I’ll do it—even if it makes me seem like a jerk in the eyes of some folks.
As the old saying goes, honesty is the best policy. I, moreover, put it all out on the proverbial table and figuratively wear my heart on my sleeve. And finally, what you see is what you get.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
If so, that's an asinine reason. To each their own, though.
People, however, need to realize that this is an off-topic forum.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

I wish I hadn't turned off the computer when I left, it would have been very entertaining to see that whole thing.
I’m gonna miss Tom though, I don’t even talk to him that much but he’s one of the more entertaining people round these parts. I’m really struggling with morale in my most frequented spots lately. My work is really depressing right now, and Bedge hasn’t been as fun this season. I understand why, and I’m not calling anyone out, but I do wish people were happier in general. The most frustrating thing with both situations is that most of the people who are unhappy only want to point the finger at others for why they are unhappy, but they don’t seem to want to adjust their own outlook or attitude to make their interpretation kinder. I’m a one man complaint dept at work, and I can take it, but it’s a bummer to come here and go through it too sometimes.

"I do wish people were happier in general."
Why? I honestly wish more people were realistic about everything happening in the world around them, including the negative stuff that’ll always be a part of our existence.
Remember, life is full of the good, the bad, and the ugly. If it was just the good, then living would be a bore.
Now, I do agree with you here.
“The most frustrating thing with both situations is that most of the people who are unhappy only want to point the finger at others for why they are unhappy […]”
For example, I’ve always said I am where I am in life ’cause of one person: Me.
Folks need to take responsibility for themselves, although that goes both ways. As it is, happy-go-lucky optimists shouldn’t expect realists to share their sunshiny attitude on things.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
I don't think happiness requires optimism.
I’m happy for so-called “negative stuff” too, as it gives life character and meaning.
She'll be right.
True, I sometimes revel in the negative ...
stuff. By doing so, it provides a good balance when the truly great things worth celebrating do come around on those rare occasions.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Life is worth celebrating for it's own balance.
As it is, bummed-out realists shouldn’t expect anyone to share their warped view of what reality is.
She'll be right.

I found this wasn't much of an issue.
I let a lot of the arguments and speculation just woosh by.
Probably one of the reasons I mod GDT’s, I reckon.
I still enjoy every game without worrying about arguments and advanced stats. I like to keep it simple.
I don't know how you do it. Those things are rough. I think the repetitive venting is the thing l dislike the most about this site.
Not long ago my hubby was yelling at the TV (interrupting my sulk, I might add) and I mentioned that he sounded a lot like the GDT. Hoo boy, did THAT piss him off.
Wiggada Wiggada Zers!
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I love sports in part due to the highs and lows that come from ...
from it. Without getting emotionally wrapped up in and down over the negative stuff — as well as venting in response to it — the success that I hope to see achieved by the M’s and/or Seahawks wouldn’t be as gratifying. Winning it all will make everything worth it.

Greg on suits "I am going to look good, that is the statement that is going to be made with my suit".
yeah, that lineup I mentioned above should be the one we go with. Unfortunately Roy is so selfish that we're gonna trade Dre now.
He’ll demand everyone be traded and by the end of this season he’ll be the only blazer left running plays that only consist of him standing at center court, staring blankly at Paul Allen and dribbling the ball for the full length of the shot clock, every possession on offense. On defense he will go stand 3 feet in front of Nate and maintain constant eye contact until he gets the ball back.
I’m telling you guys, we’re all about to go to a real weird place…

i suppose. always a decent chance of injury. mostly for Lee and Oswalt.

I'ma predict that the Nuggets trade Melo and still play well and make the playoffs easily.
It’ll be a big ‘surprise’ storyline of the second half.
wow, my jerky neighbor just told me my TV was too loud and that it “woke him up.” It’s actually really quiet right now and if he’s asleep at 8PM he probably shouldn’t live in a cheap apartment with really thin walls. I understand loud obnoxious neighbors are annoying so I try to be a respectful neighbor but this dude is like a sound Nazi.

the optomistic view is we’re hosed for 5 years. the negative view is that we’re really hosed for 5 years.
I like to think that we're only hosed this season
by next season Roy should have figured out what he can actually do (or there will be a lock-out)

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
a diminished Roy, even one that knows his role, means we’re hosed, but at least it’d be easier on the eyes than Blazer games are these days.
a diminished Roy is at least tradeable if we do indeed need to blow things up… I’m not at the blow things up stage, I’m not even at the trade Roy stage/bench roy/cut roy/leave roy by the side of the road phase… I’m at the team suffered another setback and isn’t meshing well right now stage… we’re not really a lottery team yet, but we’re not contending this year either (obviously) but that doesn’t mean we need to panic and make rash decisions that ensure that we’re hosed for 5 years (as opposed to it merely being a possibility right now)
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
by The Arkitect on Dec 16, 2010 8:41 PM PST up reply actions
probably… but current Roy is still averaging around 16 pts a game… the diminished Roy I’m referring to is the future one that has figured out what he can and can’t do

Is jump-shooting Roy who can’t play D (even a sharp-shooting Roy) really someone teams are gonna trade for when he’s still owed 3 or 4 years of max money? I’m thinking not…
How many times did Steve Francis get traded after Houston? it happens, not often, but it wouldn’t be unprecedented… but we’d have to take back an even worse contract/player…Personally, and this is me being optimistic, I think Roy can turn it around and become 80-90 percent of his former self… but it’s gonna take time and patience… something definitely lacking on bedge lately
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old

The optimistic view is the CBA allows you to buy out the contract.
And Oden comes back and dominates.

I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
by The Arkitect on Dec 16, 2010 8:43 PM PST up reply actions
good question, I dunno. Roy’s a Seattle guy so I’m guessing PA loves him, but unlikely its at Patty level.
Yup
Until recently there was no rational basis for keeping Patty, there certainly was for Roy.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Totally different situation.
Irrationally keeping Patty costs little more than a roster spot. Irrationally keeping Roy costs any hope of contention for the next 5 years.
And point was signing Roy to a max was far from irrational
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Maybe in a perfect world you hold out
And sign him as an RFA but last year someone probably offers him a max too and you have a PR nightmare possible.

On the phone with my lady today, she starts talking about how all of the transactions in our bank account right now are from Amazon.com.
She says, “You’ve got one and I have three.” and then without thinking about it she says, “Oh crap now you know how many things I bought you.”
The thing is, it would have went right over my head had she not pointed it out. The other thing is, I only asked for three things that were available on Amazon. What an idiiot!
Sure things might not be looking great right now, but look on the bright side. I have liquor.
haha, darn it! I hid a gift for my “roommate” in my side of the closet, buried in a box that has some old shoes in it and she still managed to see it by freak accident (she was searching for a cardigan on her side of the closet and couldn’t find it, got frustrated and sat down on the closet floor and saw what I had gotten). it sucked!!

I think it's pretty funny, we set ourselves a budget and asked for things accordingly. All of the things I asked for added up to her alotted amount for me
and I didn’t put things on there to go over the budget, so I pretty much knew what I was getting anyways. It was fun telling her that I wouldn’t have even noticed her slip if she hadn’t pointed out to me though, just told her she screwed herself.

i’ve watched that replay and its a travel probably but not a blatant one— its one step and then a slightly staggered jump stop (so 3 steps, but if his feet had come down in a true jump stop, it wouldn’t have been a travel). It just looked bad but I don’t think there’s any rule against doing a jump stop backwards.

It's not a secret, but I backtracked after I brought it up since I didn't want to start a political debate.
He brought in some first responders from 9/11 who are sick and/or dying (from their time at ground zero, to my understanding) to discuss the Congressional decision to deny them health benefits. It’s about as serious as the show gets. He basically called out Congress on national TV.

I dunno. I’m good at memorizing stuff, so it wasn’t too bad. I’m only one VLPA credit short, too. Bummer that I have to take three.

I would really want the Dream Act and that legislation to pass because they’re the right thing to do. But the context he put it in seemed a bit fishy. They are just not hearing any motions right now before the compromise with Obama about taxes and social security/welfare are hammered out. Ultimately they might very well all vote in favor at least for the 9/11 responder compensations.

Still on the Greg Oden bandwagon. "Whenever I feel like I can compete with the best."
Fan fickleness
It’s unimaginable how fast a few bad performances turns into full on demonisation. Passionate fanbases have their drawbacks.
Greg on suits "I am going to look good, that is the statement that is going to be made with my suit".
This is not a few bad performances. This is a bevy of selfish sounding quotes in the media over the past two years, and continuing even when his play dictates that he has no basis for calling out any of his teammates.
There’s no question fans have overreacted and Roy doesn’t deserve to be demonized, but let’s be fair here.
by jksnake99 on Dec 17, 2010 9:24 AM PST up reply actions 1 recs
I have more tolerance for these type of remarks given what he is wrestling with
I don’t remember the selfish quotes in previous years honestly, but I’m sure they came part and parcel with being one of the best players in the league.
I wasn’t trying to be unfair, I guess I just see it differently to most people.
Stay the course
Mhm, I love Roy, but theoretically if he had to retire right now what exactly would he have done for the franchise?
Help them sell tickets after the Jailblazers, score 50+ points against Phoenix, hit a couple of game winners with the most memorable probably the one against Houston 2 years ago, … Not exactly a Hall of Fame resume, which is sad.
his career hasn’t been long enough for that. He has completely re-energized the fanbase. Since you aren’t local, it is probably hard for you to tell, but around my office there is TONS of blazer stuff everywhere. Before Roy, people never, ever mentioned the Blazers. The company even dropped the suite during the down years.
Not only did people not care about the Blazers, but they had a dislike of the NBA until Roy came here.
I like Roy as much as the next guy, and except for some recent comments would have preferred his off-court representation of the team over just about any star we could have ever gotten for him
Just thinking out loud what his legacy would be if he got traded soon or would have to retire. At best it would be a Drexler situation, but he had less countable success.
yes that is true
I wonder what woulda happened if there was a bedge back when Drexler wanted to be traded?
It’s theoretical anyway. With a max contract and a $4 million/15% trade kicker he’s not going anywhere. The murmed “Alan Houston rule 2.0” in an upcoming CBA would be pretty much the only scenario where they quickly might cut ties even if it hurts.

Yeah.
It’s funny that his style of play made Roy great and it also lead to his knees getting messed up.
Maybe people shouldn’t have been cheering so much when he was driving to the basket and running into people.

The Wade parallel someone brought up kind of works
If you have a guy the takes it inside and gets pounded, don’t be surprised when he gets hurt.
Just unfortunate that Brandon’s injuries seem more permanent.
Stay the course
Yeah, I hope not.
Ginobli came back strong after it seemed like he was pretty much done. Hopefully Roy can adjust his game and get is knees figured out.
I can’t imagine it getting any worse.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 17, 2010 3:28 AM PST up reply actions
Norsk talked about the possibility of cartilige damage if Roy wasn't careful
That would be fun!
I honestly do see guys like Wade and Manu as examples of guys with recurring injuries who came back to play at a high level. The counterpoint is obviously that they have come back to play the same way they did pre-injury, which probably isn’t possible with Brandon.
I’m quietly confident that Brandon will make a comeback and a lot of people here will end up eating their words.
Stay the course
Yeah, Wade and Manu both seemed kinda done
In the few games I’ve seen, Roy is awkward with his decision making and shot selection. He can figure out how to make his body be effective even if his health never improves.
It isn’t pretty now though. I don’t think he’s handling it well mentally.
#20
I think his conflictual public statements tell us that much
I’m loath to read into body language but with Brandon at the moment, it’s clear he is not in a good headspace.
These bad times are gonna makes the good times all the more sweet.
Stay the course
Comfort level is a big deal too.
The Miller stuff doesn’t help and I can see how Roy could legitimately blame some of his struggles on spacing and stuff like that.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 17, 2010 3:46 AM PST up reply actions
He's also been known to misplace blame, like he's done before
He’s mentally all screwed up right now and its making him play worse than I think he is physically capable of.
His movement isn’t that bad. His decision making, choosing which move, how to shoot it, passing, etc, has been really bad and not Roy-like at all.
Of course, I haven’t seen every game.
#20
Yeah his head is messed up, which I guess could be Miller more than the knees.
Or maybe not. Either way, something needs to change.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 17, 2010 4:08 AM PST up reply actions
Don't let people hear you say that
Miller is a saint, our best player, 11 time all-star snub, lock HOFer and potential MVP candidate!
Honestly, The Crawford trade would excite me cos I’d get to see proper floor spacing again. Miller being moved is the first step in things starting to get better for Brandon. Removing his crutches is part of it, but also seeing what he can do with more suitable players seems logical.
One of the most annoying things, to me, is that people assume Brandon has no clue about what is best for him. He knows the type of players he plays best with. Whether it is best for the team to being in that type of player is another question but people assuming Brandon is clueless should perhaps take a look in the mirror.
Stay the course
I maintain that Miller is still better for the team than Blake was...
but it would still be nice to get someone who fits Roy better, especially given how old Miller is.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 17, 2010 3:58 AM PST up reply actions
Blake wasn't the answer
Now we can see Miller isn’t the answer.
Hinrich was the big miss – better defender than both Blake and Miller, Blake’s equal as an outside shooter, good at running the pick and roll. His major weakness is finishing inside, which is nice but not my #1 priority when considering fit with Roy.
Missing out on Collison, Conley (if reports were true about potential Outlaw/Blake deals) and Beabois also sucks. All would’ve been good long-term fits.
Stay the course
I love Hinrich, but I don't think he would have made the team any better.
It’s painful to watch him run Washington’s offense while Wall is out. I just don’t think he’s a starter anymore, especially for the price.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 17, 2010 4:06 AM PST up reply actions
I think he could've filled a Blake+ role almost perfectly
His defense is still pretty stellar (although I’ve only watched Washington’s two games against Philly and one against us) and his shooting has been pretty consistent this year. He is no pure PG like Dre, but he knows how to make the right pass in most situations and I like how he plays the pick and roll.
Stay the course
Yeah, I don't know.
I always wanted him, but now I don’t think it makes sense.
I just don’t think he’s good enough to make a huge difference. In all likelihood we would get worse if we exchanged him for Dre.
If Roy was looking good then I would do it, otherwise probably not.
by Nick Van Excellent on Dec 17, 2010 4:18 AM PST up reply actions
I am a big Hinrich fan.
But I do not see how he fits next to a hobbled Roy.
by Cablinasian on Dec 17, 2010 10:06 AM PST up reply actions
All I'm saying is that he was the player we should have targeted that offseason
Now, there would have to be subsequent moves in order for it to make sense.
Stay the course
Washington doesn't have much of an offense to run
With injuries, lineup changes, and rookies, the vets are going crazy with the kids not making the right rotations and being in the wrong spot. I think Kirk’d look much better in a more established offense.
No hate mail lately.

Portland benefits from a soft cap due to its owner.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
I expect another one-time amnesty clause in the new CBA.
Last time, it only applied to a potential luxury tax hit. This time, however, I expect it to remove a cap hit. Paul Allen will still have to pay out Brandon Roy the reaminder of his salary — while he plays elsewhere — yet, removing his contract from the books will be beneficial if there’s a hard cap or even a tighter soft cap.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Oh I don't know. We rebuilt before with terrible contracts. NY rebuilt with Curry's terrible contract.
Also, it’s likely that if we completely rebuild, Roy will be our best player, and that right now sounds like a recipe for losing if he’s gonna try to grind out points in ISO with shooters around him like he wants. Once we trade Miller (which I’m certain is coming) Roy will be our best guard, and teams should just torture us on the perimeter. I think we are a firm lottery team once we trade Miller.
Always intense.
by dario argento on Dec 17, 2010 10:19 AM PST up reply actions
IDK, Lamarcus is still trade-able I think. If Roy was the only bad contract we had, I think we could aggressively cut costs and get well under the cap.
It might be a good idea to aggressively pursue the 2012 draft. I think it’s gonna be a doozy with all those college players potentially scared of the lockout.
Always intense.
by dario argento on Dec 17, 2010 10:29 AM PST up reply actions
I think a lot of teams would be interested in LMA once BYC passes
Unless the new CBA causes a reason to not want the contract.
Yeah if we rebuild Lamarcus would likely be traded after his BYC status expires. would he still be BYC on the 2011 draft day?
Always intense.
by dario argento on Dec 17, 2010 10:37 AM PST up reply actions
A lot of Draft Day trades don't actually complete until July 1st I believe
Which would mean they’d make the trade during the draft, but it wouldn’t be under BYC. Of course, I don’t know if the trade would still complete on the 1st if there is a lockout.
Not 100% sure on any of that. I’m sure someone here who knows more about NBA contracts than me could confirm.
The lockout should start at the new fiscal year, which is July 1st, 2011.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Correct, so what happens to any trade on draft night that normally clears on the first?
Since the teams are doing the trades, I presume they still complete. But they involve player contracts that are now locked out.
In this cycle from the end of the season through 6/30/2011, no ...
club will make those type of handshake deals — which’d become official after the July moratorium in past years — due to the current labor uncertainty.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
Oh definitely, but teams do make trades that complete on the first
Which they could do without LMA being BYC anymore upon completion.
You won't see those type of handshake trades this go-around.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
I wonder how tradeable LaMarcus is. I think there’s a few teams that would love to have him even at his contract, but I doubt there are many.
Without looking to see who would want actually want him
I’d guess half a dozen teams would be very happy to have him, contract and all.
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.

I’m not convinced that the marginal haul likely to result from trading the last three months of Dre’s contract is worth foregoing a chance at a a dead-end playoff berth and chance for an some playoff entertainment. That’s not to say I value that kind of stuff, I just don’t see Dre bringing back anything that kick starts our rebuilding process in any appreciable manner.

Name a team in that range who would want an Andre Miller rental
And keep in mind that other teams can offer cap space too.
None probably. I think they could get involved with a potential melo deal or other superstar deal though or a three way with a bad team. Yeah probably not top 10 but still I think high first round.
Always intense.

If Portland gets into the middle of the Melo trade, I could indeed see Andre leave.
As others have noted, NJ could ask for Andre in a three way while giving up Devin Harris to get Melo. I’m still not convinced that trade would come together and satisfy all parties.
Probably not on further thought, but I still think they can get a decent high first rounder for him.
Also, it could be a big package deal too, something like Batum, Rudy, and Dre for high picks and a EC.
Always intense.

No, his value is worth a low first-rounder.

Rental players have marginal trade value.

No to either one.

Amazon is selling the PS3 with a $100 credit for future Amazon.com purchases
So if you regularly buy stuff at Amazon anyway, it’s basically a PS3 for $200. If you were considering buying one…
Wow that's a good deal. The PS3 is a pretty darned good Blu-Ray player. The ability to update wirelessly is sweet.

They also have the best quality Netflix streams, and a more extensive selection than xbox, where you have to manually add things to your instant queue on your computer to get them to show up on the xbox
If you're not careful, Andre Miller can really sneak up on you
Oh I didn't know that about Xbox's netflix. that sucks. Yeah the PS3 netflix is zaching amazing.

I suspect Microsoft will update that later
But in a bigger complaint, MS requires you to buy an Xbox Live subscription to use the Netflix app.
I hope they do, but it has been this way for well over a year now. If it’s not in your instant queue or in one of their preset categories, it’s a no go. PS3 shows the full Netflix selection. You can even order discs from your console

Most Netflix devices do this too
I have to manually add them to get them to my instant queue of my Sony TV (which has internal networking capability) for example.

Roku also offers your whole selection, though the WD Live does not.
Hopefully they all update, Netflix seems to encourage it.
Not unless Amazon lists it. I haven't heard. It was 75 until this morning
They’re matching Walmart and Best Buy, who are now offering a similar deal. But it’s so handy at Amazon.
Okur's coming back tonight, says ESN
Impressive.

Gah
Trail Blazers G Brandon Roy (sore left knee) will miss Portland’s next three games and will be re-evaluated later next week.

Just not surprised. I think there is a chance they just shut him down, and let him take a back seat with all this bad press he's getting AND poor play to boot.
Always intense.

And if we can't beat MIN, GS and MIL without him
We just plain suck.

I'm very interested to see how Portland does against Golden State and Minnesota.
