Trade Drawer

Brandon Roy is hoping for a trade and so am I.

Cho supposedly made a call to Atlanta for Crawford. Why? We can grab him next year as FA. He's a Seattle guy and great friends with Roy.

But the Atlanta call is not the call I would have made. I would've called Memphis and enquired about OJ Mayo and Thabeet. I would've offered Dre Miller, Rudy Fernandez, the rights to Claver and the higher of our two first round picks next season.

Memphis need all the money they have to resign Zbo and Marc Gasol. Gay and Conley were given huge deals. So financially the trade is good for them. It gets OJ and Thabeet off the books. Rudy gets to be with a spaniol buddy, they get another spaniol in Claver and a first rounder.

We get OJ who I think is a great outside shooter and will keep defences honest to assist Roy. His stats last season were quality. Check out his 3pt shooting %.  This season he's stuck on the bench and playing 10 minutes less per game. They tried using him as PG in preseason with mixed resluts. Who says he has to play PG with the Blazers. he and Brandon can take turns. Thabeet also adds big man depth and relief. He has a team option in a year and a half, so if he sucks we wont pick up the option.

The deal can be altered if the Blazers think giving up a 1st rounder is too much. Maybe add Elliot Williams instead.

But I recall Paul Allen saying he was sick of first round exits. If so we need to make a deal. Now.

Time to earn your money Cho.

I'd also give Houston a call and make enquries about Oregon native Brooks. With Lowry playing so well and Brooks being a FA we can easily acquire next season, it wouldn't hurt to ask what they'd want for him.

Go Blazers!!!

Oh maaaan...

I heard a caller on 95.5 the other day ACTUALLY say “the Blazers should trade Miller for Rose.” I don’t think he meant Malik or Jalen Rose either. I’m pretty sure he meant D Rose. I mean…Portland fans are so goofy sometimes.

I figured out the roster we need to win a title, (based on my results in 2K9 a couple years ago)

PG: Deron Williams
SG: Brandon Roy
SF: LeBron James
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge
C: Greg Oden

Bench: Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony, Rudy Gay

It’s fool proof

I'm sure if B-Roy announced a desire to be traded

every station in Portland would go on 24 hour coverage mode.

It would be bigger than a snow storm.

No, B-Roy hasn’t asked for a trade and neither is he trade-able.

the idea for Crawford

is just what I like to see from Cho. This team needs bench scoring, and Crawford has that in spades. Hopefully Cho will continue to try and find some help for out bench, because as bad Roy has been playing, the starters are pulling their weight, it is the bench that is loseing games for this team.

do you really think that Miller wouldn't be leaving Portland in the deal if Crawford was acquired?

after listening to Quick this afternoon, I don’t. The plan is to bring in a shooting “PG” to play alongside Roy, acc to Jason

How About Going for Iggy?

What I would propose is trading Rudy, Nicolas and Pryz (and maybe a draft pick or E. Williams, if necessary) for Igoudala. We would probably have to use the Greg Oden DPE to get another big.

Then I’d also like to see if we could get L. Ridnour from Minn. Maybe we could offer E. Will and a draft pick for him, not sure. Then, after putting Roy on the 2nd team, our lineup could be:

Miller/Ridnour/Johnson
Matthews/Roy
Iggy/Roy/Babbit
Aldridge/Cunningham
Camby/Marks

did you add up the resulting salaries re: that bad boy?

you just put Allen and the Blazers in LT purgatory for the next 5 years with no guarantee of a playoff series win during that time period. Congrats.

I do like the part re: Brandon on the 2nd team, though. There’s no need to acquire Iggy/Frodo to do that…

Pick of Mark Gasol and Kevin Love, lose Broy and Rudy…and then Zbo and Tolliver to mephis

Makes our guard selection thin, but that is probably the easiest postion to fix, and it helps out our Greg issue and gives LMA a backup.

Time to blow it up with this 3 teamer once NJ gives up on Melo

Roy & Aldridge to NJ
Miller to Sacramento

Favors, Murphy, Farmar & picks from NJ

It works in the trade machine, and it would send us back to the lottery and also increase our financial flexibility. Our core of Wes $, Batum, Favors, Oden + picks would keep me intrigued for a couple of years.

Randy Foye

He’s doing nothing on the Clipper bench, behind Davis / Bledsoe at PG and Gordon / Butler at SG. While he’s definitely a combo guard, he could do the Blake job very well.

No OJ Mayo, he’s ball dominant with a bad percentage.

Small trade to fix some problems.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2cz4ldl

Blazers get Carl Laundry from the Kings and Jason Williams from Orlando. Portland gets a much needed backup PF who could start if needed and a seasoned vet as a backup PG. Roy comes off the bench and Williams does his best Steve Blake impersonation.

Sacto gets Luke Babbitt. They let Laundry go because they have 3 other PF’s and Laundry likely won’t resign with them anyway. Babbitt is a young prospect (like most of the team) on a cheap contract, and he shoots the trey way better than Donte Greene.

Orlando gets Dante Cunningham. OK. Not sure why they do this.

by Sean M on Dec 15, 2010 2:27 PM PST reply actions

maybe if it's simplified?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2fw73p7

Landry needs to agree to re-sign, however. I ‘ve noticed a few DNPs for Casspi this season and don’t know if that’s reason to worry. I agree that Sacto might bite on Babbitt (hehe) and that they don’t need Landry. They are thin at wings and heavy at PG and PF for some reason.

Why is Portland doing Memphis favors?

First of all, they sent Paul t L*A and rekindled the L*ker dynasty

Then they signed Darius and played him just long enough to screw Porltand out of 9 mil in capspace

now you want to give them a starting PG for their trash so they can sign their FAs?

Xavier Henry is starting ahead of OJ Mayo. Xavier Henry! The Blazers would have 3 SGs (Roy, Mayo, Matthews) and 2 rookie PGs (Patty might as well be a rook, for all the NBA experience he has under his belt)

The Griz are already poised to pass Portland in the WC standings this season, they don’t need a handout from the Blazers

Talking about trades and all these players they should get…the Blazers will never be able to be an elite team in the superteam era, where stars are constantly taking pay cuts well below market value to play for a championship in LA. You think you can compete with that? Between acquiring Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher and Ron Artest they gave up a grand total of Kwame Brown and a draft pick…there is no move short of Jesus ressurrecting and putting on a Blazers uniform that could make a difference in this lame, boring, anti-competition era in the NBA. The only reason I watch Blazer games is because of my sadomasochistic side.

by JakeN1985 on Dec 15, 2010 8:33 PM PST reply actions

I'm in this line at this point

The only teams that “matter” anymore are the L*kers, Celtics, Spurs (much to Stern’s chagrin), and Heat. The rest of the league may as well be the Washington Generals.

No big time free agent will ever want to come here (Wes Matthews is good but NOT big time) in this sort of basketball culture. We can and have built through the draft, but that strategy will fail when:

1. our young stars get signed away by big money clubs.

2. our good teams get trounced in the playoffs year after year by highly paid mercenaries from some faraway city with no soul.

3. our plodding, size-based scheme causes us to never draft any honest-to-God ballers, because we are always just good enough to never do anything in the playoffs and we can’t crack the lottery, where all those kids are. Also, our plodding, size-based scheme fails because all our big men have their knees inexplicably explode upon donning our uniform and any real ballers we do have are handcuffed by the aforementioned plodding, size-based scheme.

These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx

by RDreamer on Dec 15, 2010 10:08 PM PST up reply actions

Huh?

1. Our young stars get signed away by big money clubs. Like who? Roy, Aldridge are/were our young stars
2. Our good teams lose in the playoffs to highly paid mercenaries. Hou (payroll 18 million lower than blazers in 08-09) or PHX (payroll 6 million more than portland in 09-10)
3. We don’t draft “honest-to-god” ballers. I assume you’re talking about Durant, but other than that who didn’t we draft that was an “honest-to-god” baller because we drafted a player that fits our scheme instead of the best player?

by TP.5 on Dec 16, 2010 3:32 PM PST up reply actions

1 and 2 haven’t happened yet. I said “when”.

We traded Jerryd Bayless, who I would consider a baller. He’s tearing it up in Toronto but couldn’t break the lineup here. We passed on such luminaries as Ramon Sessions and Marc Gasol to take McBob and Taurean Green. But my main point is that, as our team is currently constructed and managed, we will be just good enough to almost never be in the lottery, where we could actually take really good players. I’m not slamming the Blazers for taking Durant, it was the right move and any other team would have done it too. I’m just saying, we may never get the chance to make that sort of mistake again.

It’s like if the Mavericks had never drafted Nowitzki, or if they’d drafted him and he promptly had three knee surgeries. They’d be in this spot too. Just good enough to suck on a regular basis but not bad enough to have a high lottery pick.

These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others. -Groucho Marx

Sessions and Gasol

Were both late 2nd round picks who every team decided to pass up on. Bayless is averaging 13pts/4ast as a starting pg. And is probably in the bottom 5 of starting nba pg’s.

by TP.5 on Dec 17, 2010 3:10 PM PST up reply actions

If you'd said

for Kwame Brown, Marc Gasol, Darrell Arthur, and Greivis Vasquez you would have been right. And it’s worth noting that Artest and Fisher were free agents who anyone could have signed, and the stars they sign for below market value are who? Looking at their 90 million dollar payroll I see more overpaid guys then underpaid

What are your thoughts to shake up the team?

Rudy and Andre to Boston

Nate Robinson, Glenn “big baby” Davis, and Delonte West.

The Trade machine says it works but predicts 8 more loses?

Go figure, I think it would bring depth and hustle that we need. your guys thoughts?

What do we need? What Can Cho do? I would like this personally, I like all three players and think they fit what we need right now. Boston wanted Rudy and could probably use Andre as veteran solid backup point. We could use experienced youth for backup PF hustler and Youthful experienced three shooting pointguards that would fit with the nucleaus of our young team and Nate played with Roy in College and are great friends.

Loving this trade

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=256j6nu

-Main problem is we give up expiring contracts but it would b a huge movement to a young team for the future with great depth for all the injuries

Prediction says we lose some but i feel like this would help alot
-We get a BIG man in Thabeet who i still have faith can breakout and dominate
-Gain OJ who’s value is extremely low and needs a change of scenery
-Conley gives us a well rounded pg with good defense and his college days chemistry with oden could b good if oden ever comes back
-We get rid of rudy which is always a plus in my book

Agent-Zero

Can Roy’s heavy contract be lined up in any way with Arenas’s? The fact that Brandon is a pro’s pro could work better with John Wall as opposed to the unpredictable Arenas. For the Blazers, Arenas would finish this season at shooting guard, then next year when Miller walks, he’d move to the point and Batum returns to the starting lineup.
