Hey guys, is it time that we address the two elephants in the room?
Ever since we laid off Steve Blake we've all known that Portland needs its next ALL STAR point guard. The problem is, where do we find this guard, how can this guard be obtained, do we even want this guard, is he the right type of guard (e.g. point)? We need to be careful we get the right one and not just the first one that walks into the front office. Sometimes people say whatever gets them ahead in their interviews, so we might not want to go with an applicant we don't know anything about. An option could be going with a friend or relative of someone on the team already, since they could give us the thumbs up or thumbs down. Like we could ask Rudy if he knows anyone who's a point guard. Or ask Greg if he knows anyone from his hood who shoots a nasty 3-ball. I'm not saying we'll go with just anyone, but it's nice to work with people you know. But if we can't find anyone local..
Last time I was on www.chatmag.com/topics/sports/basketball.html I noticed that Chris Paul is thinking of relocating from New Orleans. I don't know why this came up all of a sudden (hurricane season?) but he wants out! This could be an excellent opportunity to "poach" someone from another team.
So what I'm wondering is...
Chris Paul and Portland Trailblazers a possible match???
I looked at Chris Paul's statistics and if we added him we'd be scoring over a hundred points a game, plus an extra 10 assists! I know Nate likes to keep the pace slow, so he might ask the team to score fewer points, but that can be fine-tuned during the season.
PLUS there's the other elephant in the room. How do we get Brandon Roy's Chutzpah back? Remember when we used to throw him the ball and our other four guys would slowly walk back to our hoop to get ready for defense? And sometimes Nate would even come out and give them little motivational backrubs while Roy was dribbling out the clock? It seems like when we try that lately not all of the four other guys are comfortable walking back. Like sometimes Wes Matthews just stays on the same side of the court as Brandon, almost like he feels he needs to help. Two seasons ago Brandon would haved dribbled over to him and physically pushed him back to the half-court line, but now he doesn't even have the spirit to wave him off. It's like Brandon needs help with his confidence...so...
You know who would be really good for Brandon's confidence? CP3! He's got a solid head on his shoulders, always seems to make the right decisions and might even be able to help Brandon with some of his issues.
I know many of you will have your own ideas on who we should hire--maybe people you know and I don't. They might be good, but I know this guy could be the guy, so I took the liberty of creating a mini gallery of what he could bring to the team next year.
