I've been thinking about this for quite some time. Every since I've known about Brandon Roy's knees I've brainstormed and thought about players that would be a better fit for this team than Brandon. Though I love Brandon and I appreciate all that he's done in a Blazer uniform, his career is going down the toilet.
When thinking about players that would be a better fit I thought back to the last two seasons and a player that I watched quite a bit (when he was healthy). One of my good friends is a huge Sacramento Kings fan. Those two seasons I watched a lot of Kings basketball with him. The only bright spot on that entire roster was Kevin Martin (and Tyreke Evans last season).
Kevin would fit in great here I think. He's an efficient scorer and gets to the foul line a lot, he makes his foul shots, he moves without the ball exceptionally well, can come off of screens and score, and he can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. He's a player that doesn't need that ball in his hands to be successful. In the last 3 or 4 season he's been the most underrated player in the NBA because he's been stuck on a bad team in Sacramento. He's averaged over 20 points each of the last 5 seasons. In his career he's shooting 45% from the floor and 38% from behind the 3 point line. He averages only 15 attempts from the field a game but he gets to the foul line 8 times per game. So again, he knows how to get to the foul line. At the foul line, he's a career 86% free throw shooter.
With Kevin playing off the ball the Blazers can start the offense with Andre Miller which would be a huge plus. It's something they really can't do with Brandon in the game. Also if you have a lineup with Camby, Aldridge, Matthews, K-Mart, and Andre you can play a much more up tempo game because you won't have Brandon slowing everything down.
If you've never seen Kevin Martin play, I encourage you to watch him. It's a real treat! Like I said before, I love Brandon Roy and all he's done. But it's time to move on. I know the likeliness of Brandon being traded with a combination of a couple players for K-Mart is really unlikely. But if it happened, it'd definitely be an explosion in the trousers!
