Long time fan, but first time posting here so my apologies if I break any of the guidlines for Fanposts.
I would like to hear how people feel about Mathews' contract at this point in the season. I realize he has only started two games, so its a little premature to call him a savior, but he has definately proven he is up for the challenge of supporting this team however he can. Mathews is, in some respects, the anti-Brandon. Let me start my explanation of that statement off by saying that I in no way am trying to say that Wes can replace Brandon in the long term, Brandon is the leader of this team and our best player, you dont just replace someone like that.
Now for the explanation... Brandon is a ball dominant player that doesnt operate that well when the ball isnt in his hands (not a lot of motion, cross cuts, dives out of him). He also IMO is an average to slightly above average defender, rebounding and creating shots for other players arent exactly his strong suits either.
Wes on the other hand has shown in these past couple games that he does operate well without the ball (tons of movement out of him). He is also definately an above average defender, creeping towards an excellent defender, that chases down rebounds, and does the "little things" to help the team win.
I didnt do any background research, and dont want to get into trying to compare Brandon and Wes. Its obvious that when healthy and feeling good, Brandon is a better all around player.
My question to you all is: Given the current injury situation, and what Wes has shown these past couple of games, is there anyone who still believes we paid too much?
