Trail Blazers still awaiting second opinion on left knee of Brandon Roy
Not really anything new, but Elliot Williams had his surgery today and this part was also interesting:
"The Blazers did not send Roy to Los Angeles for a personal examination, and didn’t take new pictures of his knee because the Blazers medical staff feels no acute injury has taken place. Instead, they feel Roy’s swelling and pain is merely a reoccurrence of symptoms Roy feels every season. The hope is that Roy’s knee will recover as in previous seasons."
You'd think they would take new pictures just in case. I don't want any assuming going on.

Yeah I have to agree. Roy did drive on Prince and get a lay up in Detroit, and it made me think things
were ok. But I’d rather he have it looked at. Even if that meant another surgery, I’d be willing to see him sit the year if it would help him get back to his old self.
what does it matter if it was an acute injury?
why would you not get another opinion on his knee? this seems completely insane to me.

No, it makes sens not spend $50 for xrays on a $8 million investment
Medical staff has to go — NOW!!!!!
This almost an indefensible position for the medical staff to take.
Fire the whole lot of them.
You feel it’s nothing? You hope it will get better?
Who hired these goons.

Maybe Paul Allen is one of the trolls saying we can't critique them
since we are not medical experts.
I am not a general in the army. I am not the chief of police for a large city. I am not a contractor for a security firm. However, if a mall routinely has vandalizing issues inside the mall, I know security is to blame.
I am not a master on diseases, but if someone gets food poisoning, I know the food is to blame.
I am not a doctor, but I know if the doctor refuses to look at a patient who is having recurring injuries, he is not providing the best treatment possible. I do not believe the blazers are choosing to risk an investment of 80 mil on an all-star. The Vulcan group’s history says they know business better than that.
It is reasonable to call for the doctors to be fired. They have not succeeded in their jobs to protect the players. There is nothing wrong with simplistic explanations. They still must be proved wrong, otherwise they have every bit as much claim to legitimacy as complicated explanations. My education being in business and econ doesn’t mean I can’t tell when an MD is full of crap. Anyone who fancies themselves to be an intellectual and seeks to tell me I’m unfit to judge a doctor is unfit to participate in the dialogue because they are seeking to short circuit a very simple case.

Are you willing to risk your life on that?
No one is trolling and telling you (or anyone) that can’t critique the medical staff. Here’s a simple explanation, since you like them.
The Blazer doctor (Roberts) has a 20+ year relationship with the ballclub
Jay Jensen was hired in 1994
Bobby Medina was hired in 1997
They’re still employed by the Blazers, despite all of the player injuries
If they were incompetent as you and others are claiming, then they would have been replaced by now, or will be shortly
Every week that passes and they still have their positions argues against your simple case of casue and effect.
Paul Allen and his employees have better things to do rather than read chat pages and respond to unproductive speculation

I'm usually not so harsh on the medical staff
But somehow, I agree now.
Just waiting for the Ducks to lose.
We should have a bit more faith in the medical staff
While it may not be apparent to us why they are doing what they are doing, I am confident that the medical staff is very competent. As fans, we tend to get a bit frustrated with the injury situation and we want someone to blame. In this case, it’s just easier to blame it on the medical staff and make assumptions that are just plain ridiculous. It just cracks me up….
Disagree
kind of hard to not see the trend of injuries here with knees and not learning about how to avoid them. This training staff has to go!!! It has to be a training issue…THIS IS THEIR JOB TO KEEP OUR PLAYERS HEALTHY… and guess what…THEY AREN’T DOING THEIR JOB KEEPING THEM HEALTHY! Kick em out.
Can someone find some information on how a training staff gets hired i would REALLY want to know. I heard it goes to the highest bidder. Training staff have to PAY to work on players. Is this just a rumor?
It cracks me up to read non-medical fans getting ridiculously outraged over medical exams and tests that they have no idea about
actually
I am a medical student with an undergrad degree in exercise phys. and I am CSCS certified. Would love to take crack at working with the Blazers one day, has always been a dream of mine.
My main point is that something is not working right with the way these guys are training their players. Something needs to be fixed and as of right now it seems like this regime is not coming up with results. Time for a change my friends.
send your resume to 1 Center Court
Best of luck, I hear it’s a thankless job.

this ^
except for the “cracks me up” part. I find these “fire the medical staff!” comments to be depressingly monotonous, like day after day of rain

Way to get out in front of this one training staff.

Quick will probably write this up later, but tweets:
ElAttrache spoke with Roy over the phone, but I won’t have details of the conversation until after tonight’s game against the Thunder
Cho says Blazers will continue to monitor Roy in the coming weeks and won’t hesitate to order an MRI if team deems it necessary
ElAttrache was reviewing MRI of Roy’s knee from May, and told GM Cho that it wouldn’t matter if new MRI was provided
