Technical fouls have helped.
The new technical foul policy seems to be having a beneficial effect. I believe the reffing in the four or five games I have watched has been superior to the past. The home town seems to have less of an effect. The stars do not seem to be getting the "star treatment." This may be because there are fewer regular fouls called. Especially by big men under the basket. I remember when Joel and Theo were called on most blocks clean or not. Maybe the officials are happier. I would be. It would wear on me to listen to constant complaining. I enjoy the games more now. The games seem to have a better flow even though more technicals are called.

Interesting Take
I’m going to think about this as I watch the next few games, but I think you might be right.
Come saturday night...
I’ll be paying attention.
I hope they start T-ing Brandon when he yells.
Anything to get him to stop yelling “Aayyyyyyyyyyyiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee” every time he goes to the rim. Man it’s embarrassing!

I have never noticed that ...maybe I will start looking for it
so I can be embarrassed too

You should. Once you've heard it, you'll recognize it everytime Roy drives to the
rim fouled or not. It’s…weird.
I always thought the "Aayyyyyyyyyyyiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee" had two fewer y's
but i could be hearing it wrong.
Maybe Roy has to do that to shoot the ball, similar to a woman’s tennis player each time they grunt when they hit the ball.
You just compared Roy to a female tennis player.
Nice.

I don't get why people care about this
He’s the hands down third best SG in the league behind one of the best of all time and a guy with a championship so I don’t really see why it matters as long as he keeps playing well.

I have a few....
1) I hate it when superstars get calls other players don’t.
2) Brandon yelling ‘hey’ – not once, not twice, but every, single, time he drives the lane – is begging for a call
3) Then he doesn’t get it, and instead of hustling back to pay crappy D, he whines to the ref to play no D at all!
4) Once you hear it, you can’t stop hearing it… it’s embarrassing… it’s annoying…
i don't care either and it doesn't bother me like it does others.
I don’t see it as he’s trying to get a call it’s just his thing, like jordan sticking out his tongue.
I’ve watched all but a couple of his games and now just kind of like to hear it, can’t explain it.

this would be fine if it were true
however he largely started it in his 2nd NBA season and even said himself it was part of an effort to get more fouls called

I told you why I care.
It’s embarrassing. Just stop it already. Play hard, finish the play, run the other way.

Let's see.
Me, my wife, the refs, his teammates, all the parents out there who have to explain to their little basketball players that just because Brandon screams at the rim doesn’t mean they should too, opposing players, the crowd, the announcers, Rich Cho. I don’t know. Who else?
"These are dreams that we have." --Rudolfo Fernandez
You and your wife? ...maybe
His teammates…I doubt it. Opposing players…nope. The crowd? Never heard even one them mention it. Same with the announcers. Rich Cho? I don’t how you (or I) could possibly know.
The point I am trying to make is……this is a very minor player idiosyncrasy and hardly something to embarrassed about. During the Jailblazer era I was reluctant to mention being a Blazer fan because I knew someone was likely to bring up strip clubs, dope smoking (tin foil and pepsi can bongs) and sex offenders. I was embarrassed to be a Blazer fan.
Now I mention my fanhood to anyone who will listen (largely because of Brandon Roy) …and never has anyone said a thing about Brandon yelping when he is trying to draw a foul…not one single time. I have zero problem with my 11 yr old daughter saying that she is a Blazer fan and that Brandon Roy is her favorite player. All he does go out and excel at his chosen profession…raise his family…represent his community (both here and in Seattle) in a exemplary manner. I feel many emotions when I watch Brandon (Awe, excitement, and pride), but embarrassment is not one of them. I save my embarrassment for things that are actually important

Two years ago more Bedgers than not were complaining Roy didn't complaind enough
and hence didn’t get the allstar treatment.
We can’t have it both ways.
Personally, I prefer Roy’s scream when he’’s hacked over the Wade, Kobe or Lebron whine to the ref.
Hmmmmm. Interesting. I will pay closer attention
"Conan, what is best in life?"
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women."
I like the end affect of the technicals; less complaining
but I hate having to watch a bunch called for the first ~15 games of the season.
I love B Edge almost as much as I love B Roy and close to my love for B atum
Yeah, it's rough. I wonder if this rule sticks.

I actually enjoy watching those guys get T'ed up for whining.
It’s fun to watch them suffer for their stupid complaining.
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
I too will be watching for that nice post
"Knowledge will get you from A to B. Creativity will get you anywhere." Einstein
It helped with the unsightly whining but I don't know about them performing better
It sure seemed like the Blazers couldn’t get into the penalty against the Clippers even though both teams seemed to playing with about the same level of aggression. The seemed like the Clippers were in the penalty about 35% of the time.
The only difference I've noticed
is an increase in the amount of ridiculous technical fouls called. But whatever, let the NBA continue to increase the tech and fines it levies at anyone who would dare question a single thing they say or do. Seems to be working out ok for them.
I sort of think the reffing has improved, too...
I don’t know if players are scared of the Ts, thus not calling attention to bad calls that are still being made in the same frequency — or maybe we have been programmed to think that the officials are horrible from all the crying after every play. Something seems different.
I do hate the technicals, but there does seem to be a positive corollary effect.
Good post!
"A bizarre and extremely rare hybrid Blazer/Laker fan, Timbo has always struggled to contain the Beast Within, like Dr. Jekyll, Bruce Banner, or Ted Kennedy." — Miled Animal
It's not really different. OKC and Heat got 20 more FTs each in their first games as usual for stars.
I like the corollary effect, too...
and once they realize they mean business we should the call frequency decrease… they have to realize fans don’t want more T’s…
But if this rule can stop the whining, and result in happier refs, making better calls? Count me as happy as well as surprised…
I agree with the idea of this post
but Gasol whined on like 3 straight possessions last night without a T. If it is not called consistently it will become as much of a nuisance as the litany of bad calls we have grown accustomed to…
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
I saw one the players in the Lakers/Suns game
use the exact “He wacked me on the arm” gesture that drew a T in the Clippers game that other night….no call …of course

it was Gasol
On the other end he was likely held on a rebound and did the arms thing that got Armon the T…I might of exaggerated on the 3 straight possession parts, but it was two consecutive plays..
"Oh Yeah!" ~ Kool Aid Man
Brandon the same in the game the other night.
Held up his forearm and slapped it after a made layup. But he did so while running away. Maybe Eric Gordon wasn’t running away fast enough.

Better flow?
Just because you put a 2000 flushes tablet in the toilet bowl doesn’t mean you are suddenly crapping in the Caribean. Even if the water might be blue in both cases.
Sure I suppose the agressive stance has improved “some areas” of game play. But IMO it sure hasn’t improved the flow. Guys getting technicals for simply raising their hands? Clapping? It’s IMO ridiculous.
I got tired of watching Kobe charge at the refs every call tha went against him. I think some improvement needed to be made. But IMO this went to far.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to book a Caribean get away….
