So I didn't have anything to say, just like making junk at 3:33
word of the day: desiderata
The daily Junk Drawer (JD) fanpost is the place for true off-topic conversation and people's random thoughts. It's a place for people to come and chat about all of the "whatevers" that didn't fit with the rest of the site and even be loose in terms of byplay and humor. The goal was to foster community...to let people who wanted to get to know each other outside of what they could discern from the strictly basketball posts. We've had happy JD's, sad ones, drawers that looked like a sharing circle, drawers that resembled open mic night at the comedy club... and people have really become a family here.
So if you have a one-off thought, consider posting it here. Everyone else is doing the same, so you will find the JD an eclectic place where you might read something interesting, pointless, profound, or just funny within a few moments. The rules about importance and significance of the topic are suspended in each JD but keep some of these basic rules in mind:
- Be mindful that every image posted slows down the JD, so use discretion in how many you post (you can also link to images you want to share so that they will not overwhelm the JD). When you do post images, put something in the subject line of the comment so that the image can be minimized.
- Ad hominem attacks and swearing will never be tolerated
- Remember everything you write is visible publicly
- Don't use the JD call out or talk about users from other BEdge threads.
As you try and navigate through the junk drawer, remember that you can use 'Z' on your keypad to mark a comment as read and move to the next one and hitting shift-A will mark all comments as read.
If you were going to dedicate 10,000 hours over the next 2-5 years to become an expert and an outlier in a specific field or area, what would that area be?
All we are is junk in the wind, and may the winds of fortune blow well on Jerryd.

as a laker fan i am glad to see him out of a blazer uniform. he along with blake were constant thorns in the sides of the lakers. truthfully i thought the blazers “were” the only team in the west that could beat LA in a series. but now the blazers just shipped all of their depth away.

There seems to be a lot of agreement with Timbo that we got worse among national fans
Martell → Babbitt
Blake, Jerryd → Armon, Patty
Few people understand Matthews yet, but that seems to be the perception. Blazers got thin, less experienced, and traded away their guys who could attack and score.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
Of course people don’t really understand Matthews. If the Lakers fans were talking about him the way we are, we’d be laughing hysterically. There’s no way we’d be talking about getting him to play backup PG if he were on another team. That doesn’t mean we’re wrong, but it should be cause for concern a little bit.

Great move by Hornets trading for Jerryd Bayless. 22 year-old scoring machine w/upside is far better asset than a 2011 pick in 10-15 range.
Bayless and Paul are the perfect backcourt duo, and Bayless/Thornton is pretty nice too when Paul rests. Bayless could average 15-17 ppg.
Bayless averaged 20 pts per40 at age 21
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
It could be an upgrade. Jerryd being Jerryd he'll still not record a ton of assists, but a high FT percentage and maybe a good FG%
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
our team really needs points, so he's a good fit.
he’ll also help our FT% out, yep. Maybe a few assists per game. but it’s the scoring and free throws I like.

when i got the text that a couple crazy stuff is going down in 72 hours, i always thought it was Andre getting moved since the rumor has been Cho consistently going after a pg in the Melo deal…which he’s still doing.
according to sources, with the amount of activity going on with Dre’s name being thrown out there by Cho, there is no way he’s still here post February.

i think it will lead to Cho inserting himself in the Melo trade to get us one piece closer.
like you predicted, the Miller relationship is not gonna work….Roy’s style just won’t let it happen. Matthews is gonna take a majority of Bayless minutes, not Dre
I’d meet BRP at the airport, not flee!! - fanfaraway
Brandon Roy won't mesh well with Devin Harris, either.
I’ll keep saying this in spite of the fact that it falls on deaf ears, but the D.C. drunkard is the answer to Portland’s quagmire at the 1.
"Some things you can't unsee, bro." (The League)
i agree. i think Roy might commnicate more openly with Harris because of the age similarities.
i think Rich Cho is more open to getting the D.C. drunkard than KP ever was. i don’t think he’s shy about bringing someone over with a shady rap.
the captain would do well here
I’d meet BRP at the airport, not flee!! - fanfaraway
Well
In Roy’s defense. Miller wasn’t doing much to mesh with Roy. Roy did spend the summer working off the ball. Did Miller spend the summer working on wide open 3s?
I think Roy would do fine with any guard who is willing to work with him.

yeah, definitely a two way street but if you can’t even have a conversation with your teammate, that is plain out weird. especially since you spend about 3/4 of the year with them.
that means if we get harris, he better get his shooting percentage up…along with his assists
I’d meet BRP at the airport, not flee!! - fanfaraway
Hinrich can do cocaine and hookers for all I care, as well as play games ...
hungover from the night before. So long as Hinrich is a gamer on the court, I say damn near everything — except pulling a Ruben — is fair game once he’s off the clock.
"Some things you can't unsee, bro." (The League)
how many more good years do you think he has left? esp on the defensive side of the ball
I’d meet BRP at the airport, not flee!! - fanfaraway
Well, Hinrich is 29 years old and has two years, $17 million left on ...
his contract. In the summer of 2012, he’ll be a 31-year-old free agent.
So, at that point in time, it’ll be time to reassess the situation.
"Some things you can't unsee, bro." (The League)
More specifically, I'm fairly certain Kirk Hinrich will be up to snuff ...
for the next two seasons — albeit barring any serious injury — which is fine in the meantime.
"Some things you can't unsee, bro." (The League)
are you Hinrich honks thinking of getting him as a backup swing guard (e.g. trade Rudy/picks/filler for him) or as a replacement for Miller? I think if we trade Miller for him we end up pretty short on perimeter shot creation.
I'd go with either one, but I can see your fears with the latter.
"Some things you can't unsee, bro." (The League)
I'm still fascinated by this shady rap of his
He’s been such a problem and all.
I never hear anyone anywhere talk about anything off-court as the issue, except here.
Bayless going is a good thing
The Blazers went from too many forwards to too many scoring guards. It would have been crappy if another player came back in the Bayless trade. I’m really confused by the Patty Mills stuff though.

i don’t think they even care about Patty…he’s gonna go when he goes. it might be even tomorrow if they find that Pendy’s s worth a trade filler.
I’d meet BRP at the airport, not flee!! - fanfaraway
I think if they can't trade Pendy and they can't get anyone back, then they'll add Patty

I never like team Bayless. I liked Bayless but he annoyed me with his cockiness on the court. I’ll miss his chats with Casey because he was funny. I always felt like he thinks he is better than he is and was owed playing time. "Jerryd is not a true point guard," Cho said. "And at two guard on this team, he’s stuck, probably as the fourth guy."
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
hrrm, that makes it sound like we are going to get another PG, because Jerryd is more a point guard than any of the non-Miller players on the roster.
Which would be the irony of the situation. Our backup PG is a Matthews, Roy, Rudy combo instead of a combo guard.

Has Nate ever played a rookie PG a lot?
He looks good, better than Jerryd in his decision making. But he has a lot to learn. That he wore the “black jersey” was likely just Nate testing out if he liked that second unit lineup of Armon, Rudy, Wesley at all in my opinion.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
I see what you're saying, the immediate answer is probably no Armon based on past experience.
Of course it could be possible that even with his inexperience Nate sees something in his game that fits better with his idea of what a PG should be.

Portland’s problem with Bayless is that they underestimated his talent due to his size. And so they turned him into a point guard. Which is a lot like telling a gun to be a fire hydrant. Not really going to help with the fire.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
I don't think Cho had that problem.
“Jerryd is not a true point guard,” Cho said. “And at two guard on this team, he’s stuck, probably as the fourth guy.”- Oregonian

In return, the Blazers get a conditional first-round pick in one of the next five seasons, meaning New Orleans is allowed to “protect” their pick against a trade if it is a high pick. In 2011, the pick is top seven protected; in 2012, 2013, and 2014 the pick is top eight protected. In the unlikely event the Hornets finish that poorly in the next four seasons, the Blazers will receive two second-round picks in 2015.

ridiculous amounts of minutes/talent on each team.

which is why anything over 12 is CRAZY
I’d hate to be worrying about whether Shelden Williams in gonna contribute enough
Can I get an Armon?
takes more skill to fill out the end of the bench.
But it does give the people at the top a big advantage, which is annoying.
skill?
I disagree. The odds are so low you can get any value that deep that it’s probably just a fluke when you do.
And it does give the people at the top an advantage. Stars will be wayyy more important and injuries will be way more devastating.
Can I get an Armon?
predicting who will get minutes at the end of your bench is huge.
gotta be active on the WW. As opposed to the small leagues, where all your guys get minutes.

You get to pick up an extra player when one of yours qualifies for the IR.
Mortals are immortal when their soul has been imported
To a source that is more sovereign, important to the whole
You can park a player that is injured fairly long-term (gets a designation on the rosters) without dropping someone immediately
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
You can place any player in it who is considereed injured by the NBA
Go to “Manage IR” to do so.
The moment that player becomes healthy, someone must be cut from your roster to make room since you are in effect getting an extra spot.
That’s how I have Okur on my team for example.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
You must not cut him immediatley, but you can't pick up any more free agents
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
I'm getting a weird message about who I want to conditionally waive when I try to claim a free agent

The only member of the Elliot Williams bandwagon
waiver wire.
Everyone in your league puts in a claim, and the team with the highest waiver priority gets the player.
After the draft all free agents are placed on waivers
As a result, you can straight claim anyone so you have conditionally drop someone assuming you get waivers.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
If he's actually on IR
You don’t have to drop anyone, but its technically a conditional pickup.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Yeah
I think I’ve sorted it now. Claimed my guy. No one else better touch him!
The only member of the Elliot Williams bandwagon
And the waiver wire is ordered first by reverse draft order
Than ESPN usually does it reverse standings in future weeks.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I need big things from you, Wes and BenJarvus.
It is annoying that the crappy teams score a lot of points against me.
Maggy, what is up with the 45 games played limit in our league?
Does that mean we have to cut guys after they have played that many or what?
The only member of the Elliot Williams bandwagon
that's per week for your whole team
it’s meant to balance schedule quirks that give teams a whole bunch more games in a week
everyone gets 45 per week (I can adjust it if that’s too low)
You can go over the limit, though. If you have 44 games played on saturday, you get all your sunday games.
The day you go over 45 is the last day you count games. So if you hit 45 on Saturday, nothing on sunday counts, but all your sat. game would.
Can I get an Armon?
man, I thought about picking up Danny Woodhead earlier in the season but didn’t and now he’s gone in both leagues and continues to be pretty dangerous.

SD WR caught a pass over the middle, diving.
So, he gets up and drops the ball… not realizing he wasn’t down by contact. NE scoops up the ball, returns it 20 yards.
btw, diving for first base doesn’t slow you down if you execute the dive perfectly. Your center of mass keeps going at about the same rate, but your hand is way out in front of your center of mass so you get there quicker. It also allows you to avoid a tag play if the 1B gets pulled off the bag.
It only slows you down if you mistime the dive. The bigger problem with headfirst dives is that it carries an injury risk.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
and the possibility of not executing the dive properly.
like Gardner sliding to the side of the bag. I hate that play.
I thought the headfirst dive was a good play there. I also am not convinced he missed the bag. I think he would have been out if he’d run through the bag.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
what game was that in? I’ll see if I can find the video.
His slide in game 1 was money.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
I found video of Gardner talking about why he slides
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12835687
here’s the play in the Lee game; I guess he did miss it. That’s kinda fluky though, and if he doesn’t dive, Lee just tags him out.
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12855227&topic_id=14873502&c_id=mlb
I think it speeds him up a tiny bit but more importantly helps him avoid the tag.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
I love Gardner! He’s a better Ellsbury!! That type of player is super fun to watch. How can you like Andrus but hate Gardner? He’s even a Yankee farm hand not a gazillion dollar pickup.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
yes.
He’s even a Yankee
I can’t stand Yankees. I like Rivera. That’s about it. Sabathia, Granderson, those guys were awesome until they became Yankees, and now they’re annoying. Gardner’s annoying.
player made a diving catch… untouched, gets up and celebrates while leaving the live ball on the turf… it’s a fumble and the Pats recover

Is Vlad going to play RF or LF? If he plays RF, Josh Hamilton is going to have to shade way over into “Triples Alley” or the Giants might run all day on Vlad.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
RF was always his position in his prime. He had a cannon and a half. That’s a huge RF in SF though and a difficult one to play.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
he played left once in interleague.
Makes sense to put Cruz in right and Vlad in left, seeing as Cruz’s arm is incredible and it’s his normal position. Heck, Manny plays left.
yeah you for sure want your weakest defender in LF at AT&T Park
I guess that leaves David Murphy on the pine, when he’d normally play against the Righties Cain and Lincecum. Watch for the Giants possibly flipping Cain and Lincecum to give Timmy an extra day to rest and semi-concede the Lee game.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
that would be sooooo lame.
You have a two-time Cy Young, you can’t concede that he’ll lose against Lee. MANO Y MANO.

both my parents graduated from USC, but they are also both incredibly narcissistic
and self defeating. After they split up they both spent a lot of time focused on themselves and my sister and I kind of just raised ourselves. When I was in high school they both lost their jobs and I went to work full time which was a real drag, doing that after school and coming home at ten o’clock to see your dad sitting in the same spot as when you left for school in the morning. They lost the houses they owned, and I lost my social life, and by the time I graduated high school I had gone from a 3.7 gpa to a 2.4 and could give a rats ass about school anymore. But whatever, I’ve told this story before, and to answer broyposse, there is a magnifying glass in my rearview mirror sometimes. Not all the time, but sometimes…

me too,
I’ve decided that for right now I’m better off moving forward with what I’ve started than looking back, and much of my life so far has built the skills that could help me the most with my new direction. What gets me though sometimes is just how difficult the road has been when if just a few things would have gone differently, many of those would have been unnecessary. I know it all happens for a reason but it can be so frustrating watching people who I’m sometimes just as smart as, or sometimes smarter, move forward with relative ease while I have really had to grind for what I have. I’ve recently gotten in touch with old classmates from my childhood, and many of them are very well off, and at times I’ve felt a little condescended to by them. That makes it harder, but if they are going to be like that, they can eat a bag of _. It does affect me though to be truthful. So yeah, I have to keep moving forward and telling myself that I deserve the success that I think can come, and continue to work through my particular psychological dilemmas…

and you don’t typically get those by having an easy path. I am a really happy person for the most part and I’m really proud of what I’ve made for myself, but the subject of money has always been a sore spot for me. My family used to have wealth. People in my past have been very selfish and less than pragmatic though. It also didn’t help that I grew up in a town surrounded by wealthy people, especially while we were losing everything at such a formative stage of my youth. I don’t want for much these days, but I do wish I had more of a nestegg, and we’ll continue to work on it. For the immediate future though, we gonna be broke for awhile…

I was very vocal and critical of the way Rudy and his agents dealt with things this summer.
I found more compassion for his situation though when I read about how he is still paying off his old contract and not being able to play for a year could have very real and dire consequences for him financially. That said, the whole time that was going on my feeling was he just needed to get back to playing basketball and hopefully that would go a long way to helping his state of mind. Hopefully that is exactly what’s happened. If he continues to do his best on the court, I’m not gonna hold any of it against him. I’d rather he play for us than go home, I just want him to bring his best while he’s here.

Yeah, I have that nagging feeling that the situation could play out like in Dallas where they first traded away the young attractive players and then fired the coach. The other way around might have been the better way.
Also read an interesting comment today by a NYT blogger that we had so many young pieces that it kind of devalued some of them on the market by not giving them enough playing time and shots compared to what they can do for other teams. Jerryd will likely be one of those. He only turned 22 in August, so his ceiling is still a long way ahead.

I'd be cautious of saying this with certainy just yet.
He’s had the one bad shoulder injury, and his problems have all come from that one injury. Other than that, he’s been healthy. So is he injury prone for having one serious injury?
no I guess I was making more of a comment on his somewhat slight build than commenting on his shoulder.

Webster → Babbitt
Blake, Bayless → Armon, Patty
Pendergraph → Oberto
That’s the common equation made up by national fans. Also still an injured front court. And loss of Jerryd’s ability to play 2 position and get easy buckets to close out games.
Now I’m high on Wesley, but if you aren’t, the team got worse (if you are evil minded, this is where you could also put in the Vulcan penny pinching storyline).
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
the combined wins added for everyone we lost is like .8
that’s wayyyyyy overvaluing their mostly meager contributions. Steve Blake is the most important player of that bunch.
The front court is still injured, but we know our bigs are injury prone.
Can I get an Armon?
the whole blake thing though is kind of tough to quantify. Having Blake and Miller on the same team was a problem.
Losing Blake plugged a large hole last year at the center position. While I do think sometimes in retrospect that Blake was a better fit for Roy, I also think to a certain extent that dynamic was a little limiting for our team moving forward. Ultimately, it would be great to have a PG that can hit the outside shot and look to distribute first, while also having the desire and toughness to take the ball to the hole when the opportunity presents itself. With Blake and Miller you kind of had one and the other. This did not lead to a great deal of fluidity and harmony in our offense last year, so it’s hard to say if losing Blake was really an overall negative, when quite possibly keeping him could have had just as negative an effect. Right?
I'm a Greg Oden honk, yeah.

Three straight weeks of the #1 ranked team
Losing on the road, although of course SC is not as good as Missouri, South Carolina or Wisconsin.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
That would make sense, except that only one of those teams was the #1 BCS school.
They were ranked #1 in the AP, like Oregon.
Oklahoma was third in all the major polls I believe
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
right, that would be the team I referenced when I said
“except that only one of those teams”
so, I guess the #1 BCS school losing last week means there’s a BCS curse? or does the two top AP ranked teams losing mean there’s an AP curse? LOLZ there’s twice as big a curse on the AP top team.
No it means they were overrated
Oklahoma almost lost to Cincy, Air Force and Utah State, the later two at home, they were due for a loss.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I don't think so
All three of those teams were cleanly beaten by teams that were, at least for one day, simply better.
There was no crazy stuff, just one team beating another.
A curse is what happened to LSU’s opponents before last week.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely

Theirs will likley not drop enough for Oregon to pass them if they don't lose
If both Auburn and Oregon win out (which is not likely but you never know),, Auburn is likely to stay #1 and Oregon #2.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
their schedule's better than Oregon's in conferene.
UO had Stanford, but no one else is highly regarded. Auburn gets Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, etc.
At least as far as the computers see too
Because all the computers see is raw records, not rankings.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I meant out of conference… Oregon is going to be hurt in the computer rankings because the Pac-10 is beating itself up this year

it's my only criticism of the ps3...almost
my other gripe is that even though it will support output of 1080p, most games are only 720. I understand this is probably because developers are programming cross-platform on lots of these games and they aren’t going to develop different resolution levels, but I want to see my games at their highest quality. I guess though as a devout PS fan, I can really blame that on the xbox for not being as good as it could be.

dunno, but I bought fallout 3 on 360 instead of ps3 because ps3 was on 720 and 360 was 1080. I think assassin’s creed 1 was the same way. (I have both systems so I’m not a “fanboy” of either, just have noticed that a few games come out with higher video resolution on the 360 version)
Go Blazers! Secure the Win!
just read that xbox does support 1080p out, although microsoft has mandated all of their games to be rendered at 720p and then the console upscales to the higher resolution.
PS3 requires this to be handled at the software level, so if it’s written at 720p it’s output at 720p. I don’t know how I feel about that. On one hand maybe sony did this so that any games being output at 1080p are actually rendered with the detail that 1080p allows for, while the xbox is likely just sharpening larger polygons. What I don’t understand though is I’m pretty sure regular dvd’s are upscaled to a higher resolution because all of our dvd’s look great on that thing, so why not do the same for the games?….

yeah I totally agree with you (and the PS3 does upscale old DVDs). The PS3 is definitely the stronger machine but for some reason developers don’t seem to use the full power of that machine and I have no idea why.

baseball starts at 4:57 pacific, so if Lee and Lincecum work super quickly, maybe not.
game 3 (3:57 pt) conflicts with Portland @ New York (4:30) on Saturday
game 5 (4:57) conflicts with Portland @ Chicago (5:00) on Monday
game 7 (4:57) maybe conflicts with Portland @ OKC (7:30) on Thursday.
MPOTCP>PGOTF
yeah, its the potential game 7 conflict that would force you to make the toughest decision, though I think at that point you’d have to go late to the OKC game. Its a game 7!!
MPOTCP>PGOTF
The OKC game at the end of last season was one of the best non-playoff Blazer games I've been to
Granted, I’m not a baseball fan, but I wouldn’t want to miss being at that game to watch another sport I like.

My question is
how did she manage to wash it so quickly? Was the daughter just tirelessly looking for it and then her mom managed to sneak it into her room?
Dumb commercial!
there's no character development either!
The mom should have be caught replacing the shirt in the closet so she has to come to terms with her irresponsibility and lying. I think that mother-daughter relationship was really icy and could use some catharsis.

I'm gonna be 1-6 in both leagues I'm in
Picks
1. Ray Rice and Andre Johnson have both vastly underperformed
2. Shonn Greene was a bust (drafted him in both)
3. Miles Austin and Greg Jennings have been okay
4. Tony Romo has been alright (fantasy wise), but Beanie Wells did nothing
5. Wes Welker and Brett Farve….
that’s about enough of that
suffice to say I drafted like poo and there was a HUGE run on QBs in my 2nd league so I got stuck with Farve

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I'm 4-3 in my ESPN league, 3-4 in the BE league
But the difference is that the ESPN league really has a basement so I’m in decent playoff shape there while I still need one more win to get back to the playoff picture in the Be league.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely

barring excellent games by Bradshaw, Steve Smith and Giants D tomorrow I’m gonna lose both games this week and go to 4-3 in both leagues. I drafted fairly decently (especially for my first time ever) but some of my players have had terrible weeks at the same time my opponents players have the best games of their lives (I’m looking at you Roddy White during Peyton Manning’s bye week.) Also, until the last couple weeks MJD had been a huge disappointment.

I have the most points against in our BE league
And 3rd in the ESPN league.
I also have the highest owner efficiency rating in my ESPN league (a rating my friends and I put together last year to determine who has the highest utilization of my potential points). Mine is .89 (meaning I only score 11% less than if my sit/start decisions were perfect every week), which is very good.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
that's a cool stat
I’ve been pretty good in one league with start ‘em sit ’em (they just haven’t done that well anyway) and absolutely horrid in my other league.
I sat Nicks in his huge first game. I sat M. Floyd in his biggest game of the year. I sat Jennings in his biggest game of the year. I picked up Kolb after Vick went down but forgot to put him in on his biggest game of the year.
Can I get an Armon?
Depends on the league of course
In our BE league we only have 3 bench spots so its more about waiver picks.
In the ESPN league, 7.
I’ve been excellent on RBs, only tripped up on WRs.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
that is a pretty cool stat. I likely killed myself in the BEdge league this week by playing Deion Branch(2pts) over Santana Moss (12pts). If I lose by just a few points I’m gonna have to break my desk in half from slamming my head into it so hard.

But there is no such man; for, brother, men
Can counsel and speak comfort to that grief
Which they themselves not feel; but, tasting it,
Their counsel turns to passion, which before
Would give preceptial medicine to rage,
Fetter strong madness in a silken thread,
Charm ache with air and agony with words
Good stuff.

What a ridiculous reason to avoid an (ec) assignment
EVERY teacher will bring their biases to the classroom and every teacher will prefer some content (books, movies, etc) over others. I give you props for identifying the teacher’s biases, it’s important not to blindly follow teachers or anyone, but it’s disconcerting that you’re so irritated by a simple assignment. Unless the teacher gives out bad grades for disagreeing with him, I don’t see the problem.

i’ve got Ibaka, J. Green and now Mike Miller (gambling that I can do without him until January).
