Bayless Appreciation Thread: Thank You Jerryd!
OK, I know, I am viewed as a huge detractor for Jerryd Bayless on this site. It was never that I thought JBay was a bad player. I just do not think he is or ever will be a point guard.
That said, he was just another lovable kind of guy. Gritty, determined, hardworking, fun and fast. He will do well alongside a guy like Paul that is for sure. He will finally get a truly great opportunity prove himself by playing to his strengths rather than trying to develop his weaknesses.
I will miss the strut, the scream, the face. I will even miss the headlong barreling down the court from time to time, even though he did not keep his head up to see his wide open team mates.
Much like our last 3 players traded, Marty, Steve and Trout, your trade was the prudent move, not a problem of chemistry or effort, but one of need or fit.
Good luck Bayless, I really think this will be a much better opportunity for you.
Thank you JBay!

I really wish he was traded to an east team...
having all these guys in the west is killing me…

Thank you for your tireless work effort
your willingness to do whatever was asked, and your professionalism through all of it. But most of all, thank you for 31 points against San Antonio. That was amazing to watch!

Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
Hmm, I have almost all of last year on digital video
It’d be nice if there were a way to make it available to other BE members without making the NBA’s head explode.
Thank you Jerryd!!!!!
I loved your desire to be the best on the court, and your dunks are inspiring, plus your manpurses will be missed. Sorry it didn’t work out. Good luck in the future!
im gonna miss this guy's toughness
and his ability to score from the line.
im sure cp3 will love him
PHILLY!
Best of luck in NO Bayless!
Though personally I find the added shots at Bayless unecessary.
Proud to be a Republican.

i don't really think I took any "shots" at Bayless
The head up thing was an ongoing thing that he did repeatedly much like Trout shooting off balance shots…it was often frustrating but it often worked out well for us as well…sort of a trademark move that was part of what made them “them” as Blazers…

Dude, all I'm saying is start setting picks for CP3
Sorry, I’m a little unconfident in my nba geography, but isn’t New Orleans the place where Monty Williams is coaching a top 3 pg in the league? Because, all I’m saying is that’s not just a gift from Portland but a vote of condience for him as well.
As for Portland, I think he was worth more but then again a lottery pick would be nice in a year or two. It’s also finally nice to be making space on the roster for once. On the other hand I hope we have a starting center whenever we meet up with the Hornets.

I have to agree in terms of value.
But, if used in a trade, that pick might end up carrying more value than the time Jerryd would have spent on the court. That’s how I’m looking at this.
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
yeah
plus the trade exception could prove useful.
the combination of needing to streamline minutes at the position, the luxury tax and the trade exception combined made this the prudent move…

That pick is specifically NOT a lottery pick.
If it does in fact become a lottery pick, NO gets to keep it. We only get it if it’s 7th or lower next year, 8th or lower after that for a couple years, and if NO manages to be in the lottery for four straight years (near impossible), we get two second round picks.
At least that’s how I understand “protected” first round picks.
yes
that is why you make the trade, because you are likely in the lottery.

B-Rex!!!!!
We’ll miss you Jerryd. Just don’t go all B-Rex on us, please. It’s bad enough when we’ve got Chris Paul falling down on us.

When the world knows Nico Batum as "The Inevitable", I'll be very happy with where he is as a player.
B-Rex
…at some point this season Jerryd, you will go head to head with Andre Miller and crush him like the inferior player that he is and you will make us all sorry we let you go for nothing.
we can still win........
but then you'll turn over the ball on an in-bound pass
and we’ll say, “yep…yep…”

Thank you Jerryd. You will be successful in the league, just as good as your draft peers who get more attention until now.
You were cool to meet in person, and you played some great games for us showing flashes of your big potential. I’ll continue to follow your career with great interest, you will make it in the NBA. Go JBay, free the B-Rex.

with Bayless and Pendy gone
i think we just lost our two most passionate and intense players. Bayless may have had faults but you could never fault his heart. guy brought it on the court 24/7, AND cheered harder from the bench than anyone else. i keep readin he didn’t fit with the team. i disagree. he didn’t fit with the available minutes.
wish him the best…

Good old Jerryd
His passion for yelling and fist pumping after scoring a basket in the 2nd quarter taught me the importance of having a fist pump worthy moment every day in my life.
Thank you Jerryd
I used to go by tominhawaii. My real name is still Tom.

Good Luck Baylessaurus rex
Thanks for all that you brought to Portland. The drive, the hustle, the sheer determination. It is a shame to see you leave. However I think your career just got a boost. See ya in the playoffs!!!

yep
this is good for him…just like the Marty trade…
In fat all of our last 4 trades now have sent guys into either better situations or better opportunities for them…
Still sad

Best of luck Jerryd!
I will really miss your intensity, tenacity and work ethic. I know you’ll achieve the role you deserve!
I didn't mean to turn you on
Guess I have to change my avatar now.
I’ll put my B-Rex jersey away.
I loved your competitiveness. I loved your heart. I will miss you, Jerryd.
Good luck to you.
Thanks for the 31 pont game against the Spurs, it was inspiring
and for all of your highlight dunks
Until he's not, Rudy's a Blazer.

Thanks, Jerryd
I will have to watch your continued growth with NO, just as I keep an eye on Marty in MN. Make us proud (and possibly regretful that we traded you).

I am going to miss your highlight dunks and your “I am the one” game-face.
Best luck !

Thanks for your surlyness Jerryd!
And your constant drives to the basket when the D and their grandpappies knew you were coming… and your short arms… and your highlight dunks, although few… and your awesome BEdge nickname

All hail the Rex...

wow
Timbo, wow that is a remarkable likeness to Jerryd Bayless!
one thing about it
Goes to show, a player who works his heart out even if the end result out on the court is a mixed bag, is going to get a lot of respect from the fans, and deservedly so for Jerryd Bayless.
Jerryd
Love you, man! Love your intensity and passion. You were the epitome of what a Trailblazer should be: hardworking, a fighter, confident, total professional.
When you come to the Rose Garden, you can be sure that I will be cheering you.
Ryan Gomes: forever a Blazer in our hearts.
Good Luck Jerryd
Even though your name was like a key was stuck on the keyboard, I thought you showed steady improvement, great dedication, and above average maturity.
Trading the young guy who won’t leave the gym is usually a bad idea. Unfortunately my guess is that doesn’t compute well with current blazer management.
"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"
You made summer league VERY fun to watch when you were there.
Thanks for the win vs. the Spurs last year too! Good luck in NOLA.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
another one bites the dust...
but you are a part of the team that helped me love basketball. I’ll always have a soft spot for you. until you know NOLA, don’t go anywhere you aren’t familiar with unless you are with someone who knows the area. it used to be my stomping grounds and i never ran into trouble cause i stuck by that piece of advice. I too think this might be a great opportunity for you and NOLA is super lucky to have you.
