Erick Dampier might also be an outside possibility.
Probably too late now, but much better.

Dampier might want to sign a contract before teams realize they are actually considering signing Erik Dampier and paying him money.

we are talking about our 3rd or 4th center
in that sense Mbenga makes more sense than Dampier who I think would be more prone to pout if left off the 12 man roster when Oden gets back. My preference would be to trade Rudy for Daniel Orton who could fill minutes at the 5 until Oden is back and would get a chance to develop into our back up 5 of the future, sure he’s a project but with a post rotation of Camby, LMA, Oden and Pryz a project is what Portland needs.
not with the way Rudy has been playin lately!!!!
It would be a better value just to keep him for two years. Looking good in that second unit!!!

Blazer player, playing bad--fans say "Trade the bum, now!"
Blazer player starts to play well—fans say “Oh no, we can’t trade him now!”
Death and taxes are less predictable than this

Isnt that how it should be?????
If a Blazer is playing well i don’t care who he is. If Louis Scola(who i hate) was on the blazers playing well I’d say “not so fast” with a trade. But if your talking about dumping a player under contract of the Blazers who is playing well RIGHT NOW for a Rent-a-Center that’s absurd. Players have their issues in the league, they were all the best players somewhere in their life, but given time it sometimes works itself out. Rudy expressed he wasn’t happy, like tons of players do every year i.e Melo, CP3, DWill, Howard, Ginobli, Kobe, that doesn’t mean you just get rid of them. I hated what Rudy was doing, but if the man is gonna play for the Blazers and try to change, let him play unless you COMPLETELY get equal value for him.

Buy low, sell high
Fans think like…well, fans
GMs have to look at the big picture. Trading a player who is hurt (or playing ineffectively) may be the popular choice, but it won’t help the team in the long run.
Looking at the roster, seeing a weakness and trading a quality/contributing player from a position of strength is what successful GMs try to do. In the long run, the team is strengthened—as long as things like chemistry are taken into consideration. Portland can have 6-7 guards fighting over not enough playing time while the team is being out-rebounded due to size mismatches, or they can flip a decent guard for a “rent-a-center” and balance the lineup/rotation. The move may not be immediately applauded by the fans, but it solves several roster issues at once and should ultimately result in more victories.

I can't believe they're actually considering him as a viable option at center. SMH.
