Blazers need to play barefoot
NPR story says when we run in shoes, we land on our heels too hard. We're built to run further forward on our feet.

ah, actually, they should have learned to run without shoes as children ... then they would be healthier.

Or if they just put more thought into the ergonimics of shoes instead of something that looks cool and is endorsed by LeBron or Jordan… Nike I am looking at your overpriced POS shoes.
I'm no fan of Nike's conduct in the world
but they do spend a lot of time and money to make the best shoes. One example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VBaUe9FCEY (warning: kobe)
Try a pair of the Nike Free running shoes, as another example, http://nikerunning.nike.com/nikeos/p/nikeplus/en_US/products/free5?blogSource=en_US

Interesting.
I remember not learning how to sprint until a ran in track. Track shoes (in my day anyway) have almost zero heel padding. You are forced to run on the balls of your feet. You’ll do some serious damage to yourself if you try to land on your heels.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
Well that's why basketball shoes tend to have lots of cushioning at the heel
Because then it’s not an issue.
