Quick: Brandon Roy out at Least 1 Week; Undergoing PRP Therapy
Jason Quick of The Oregonian with the latest on Brandon Roy.
Update (10:25AM):
Brian T. Smith is reporting Roy will receive an infusion of platelet rich plasma in his hamstring, which could result in an even longer absence.
Here's a great piece about platelet/plasma injections in professional athletes by Alan Schwartz of the New York Times.
Here's a piece from Injury Expert Will Carroll with a full discussion of the therapy as performed on baseball player Michael Young.
Jason Quick has some details on the procedure up now as well.
For the super-curious, here's a video explaining the treatment therapy and another video showing the therapy in action.

Get well soon Brandon
We miss you. This is a week well spent though – hopefully it is enough to see some marked improvement in your hamstring. – Elgin

Rudy + Jerryd:
ITS TIME TO STEP UP!!! At the end of this week I want you to force KP to never ever think about trading either one of you.
What if Brandon can't get his starting job back?

We trade him for either a backup PF or a third string center.
Will need to get a couple of 2nd round draft picks in return as well if it is for the latter.
Clarence, It's better to have a gun and not need it, then need a gun and not have it.
I give up on you
You always undervalue our players. We should at least be able to get a guy who can play BOTH backup PF and 3rd string center.
#10 #25 #52 #88 -- #5 is back!
You are right, as always.
If we do that, we can then trade Jeff Pendergraph, who will no longer be needed as a backup at PF and center.
I was obviously thinking too small, as I missed the opportunity to create the need for another consolation trade. I allowed myself to forget that most basic of principles – that there are few moves capable of showing a GM’s brilliance better than pulling off a consolation trade.

On the positive side...
At least this will free up some minutes for Rudy and Nic to play themselves back into game shape.

agreed
i’m kinda pumped to see a miller-rudy backcourt. hoping for their first alley-oop connection tonight.
Ironically, that was exactly what Nate was thinking when they signed Andre.

I have to say that treatment sounds really cool

Pretty crazy...
and absolutely amazing what the human body is capable of and what modern medicine is doing!
platelets?? they are for clotting. how are they supposed to help?
Please, for the love of all that is holy, please stop using the following: "Book it.", "FTW", "Epic" & "Fail".
...no seriously--stop.
You use them when the portion you are eating or serving ...
… doesn’t require the use of a full sized plate.

Good.
Rest him. He needs it and he more than deserves it. It’s the dog days of January. I don’t want to risk Brandon. We can’t risk him. Besides, give Jerryd and Rudy some time to step up.

Interesting treatment.
Sounds like we might want to hire on a PRP therapist to our regular training staff. We could start by shooting up the knees of our centers, and go on from there. Not to mention, once we are all set up to handle our frequent injuries, they will probably cease.

So glad I'm not a professional athlete!
It’s just a pulled hammie; you just give it a few weeks and rehab and you’re fine but I guess when you’re a pro you have to do anything you can to get back sooner… just glad it’s not me.
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology.
I’m becoming more and more leery of our training staff, especially when it involves injecting things into our best player.

It's his own blood
Guys get injected with cortisone, pain killers, etc, etc, etc.

That's ok.
People here were more than leery before that happened.

It never ends does it?
Not that this is surprising, but golly gee! How many games have our players missed this year? I am beginning to wonder if we aren’t nearing historic levels of missed playing time by an NBA franchise?
I mean everyone of our starters from last year has missed at least three games. Roy is heading towards missing 4 more in addition to the three he has already missed.
Oden – 22 (will be 61)
Pryzbilla – 13 (will be 52)
Roy – 3 (will be 7)
Aldridge – 3
Blake – 4
Batum – 43 (will be at least 45)
Fernandez – 19
That’s 107 games by major contributors. And by the end of the year will be at least 191! That’s almost three full seasons!
And that’s not counting Pendegraph or Mills.
Hopefully all of injuries are being used up this year…….

I forgot Outlaw!
He has missed 32 games. That’s 139 and over 240 by the time he comes back. That is three full seasons!

One of these seasons
we will go through an entire year with less than 20 starter games lost to injuries.
And a rival fan will come on the forum and claim we are lucky with injuries.
And we will verbally break him in half before Dave has a chance to ban him.

Roy was at UW today.
Too bad our team was out of town so he couldn’t yell at them for playing like poop yesterday.
