Quick was on Wheels at work
Jason said other teams have been trying to poach players by making ridiculous offers to KP
western conference teams are unlikely to deal with Portland, because they don’t want to help anybody out like Memphis did for L*A with the Gasol deal
Andre Miller is being a good soldier, but Miller (probably) still feels the isn’t the right “fit” with the Blazers. This doesn’t mean a trade including AM is imminent
KP has said he will be “very active” at the deadline…but look for a deal with an EC team at this point

Can you shed any more light
on this?
“Look for a deal with an EC team at this point”
see "point" #2
If the WC teams aren’t inclined to do Portland any favors, then a deal with an EC team would be more likely

I think miller likes being a blazer but is frustrated at his use
he doesn’t like to sit out 4th qtrs and watch the lead he helped build evaporate like in the game before the shouting match.
AM has shown he can play with Roy. He has proven out as our best PG. Why trade him? Bayless has shown flashes, but he is a year away from having any real consistency to his game. Blake is great as a backup PG and 3pt threat, but questionable as a starter.
If you trade Andre now
it is with an eye to the future, committing to Bayless as our PG, Blake as backup (even if Blake starts this year, Bayless is the future).
But it costs us wins this year, unless it brings back a fairly significant big man.

it's getting harder every day, isn't it?
Miller is looking better and better, while Bayless is starting to look like he’s still not quite ready. Now that Roy is dinged up, they need Andre more than ever, to make sure the team gets a good shot down the stretch. I wouldn’t blame KP for being gun shy at the deadline, seeing as how the team can’t seem to go a week without some new injury popping up
But man, the front court is thin. If Juwan Howard runs out of gas or gets hurt, there’s only so much you can do with LMA and the rookies. And now the roster is locked in and they can’t add another 10-day big man without waiving Mills…KP says he’s going to be active a the deadline, and I don’t think he’ll deal any of the young players…so that leaves Blake or Miller (plus Travis’ contract) to bring in that much-needed big guy, and we know how much Nate and Brandon love them some Blakey
So that points to Andre. But the team is right in the middle of the hunt and Roy is gimpy. It’s a puzzle, and KP has about 30 days to solve it

yes, as long as Nate doesn't have some regression planned for Miller (or ill feeling),
he is working well with the team now, and being well used, so Miller should be staying. I would hope we don’t let go of a long term star for a short term patch. Now if we really can get a young, promising center of equal value, that might be worth it. So we will see, but I will be real disappointed if it is one of MY favorite players.

that's the party line
ESPN’s mark jackson said miller isn’t an elite PG but a very effective one. i think miller is not billups or cp3 or nash, but i think he is top 10. miller’s game will age well, too, in that it is all smarts, position, and strength in the post. he is a smart defender if not an athletic one.
But what do we trade for?
I suspect the Blazers will be active at the trade deadline due to two realities. Injuries aside, we have 5 guards, and to develop Bayless – if you believe that he’s part of the Blazers future, he needs playing time, and the return of Fernandez and Blake puts him back down the list. The second is that when Batum and Outlaw return we will have three small forwards, and two rookies in Pendegraph and Cunningham that can pick up the PF minutes behind Aldridge. Watching Webster’s recent play, and knowing how the Blazers feel about Batum, it would appear that we don’t have the minutes for Outlaw. After all,. Websters recent play appears to give us that reliable outside shooter that, in combo with Fernandez, takes care of our need to spread the floor.
The question though, is even if you are active – just what are we looking for? I hear that New Jersey has just about everyone but Lopez on the trading block given their season – which could mean Harris. And the flip side is that perhaps we’re really looking for a younger that Pryz big man who could contribute now, and then play behind Oden. I don’t see, after all, that we’re going to need anyone at the 2 or 3 given Roy, Fernandez, Batum and Webster, nor at the 4, given Aldridge and Pendegraph/Cunningham.
But, and this is the big but, if we were able to pick up an equivalent but younger than Miller PG, then Bayless and Fernandez would be a permanent part of a 4 guard rotation, rather than a 3 guard rotation, and they’d have to be happy with that.
So, KP will be wheeling and dealing – but will there be any player movement, or will it be like last year – with a lot of talk, but no real action? We’ll see.
a reasonable post,
but “knowing about how the Blazers feel about Batum”, does not establish that they feel less enthusiasm for Outlaw.
People are ready to celebrate Batum’s “upside” assuming Outlaw’s is less, which is not established in my mind.
Outlaw’s offense, including clutch is more developed and proven than Batum, and before his injury Travis was showing signs of more attention to defense and rebounding, which can just as well improve as Batum’s offense.
That is just talking on the court. I also value Travis’ role as “glue guy” who is a great team player and exceptionally liked on the team. Also, I have some concern, from a Blazers point of view, to Nic’s devotion to his summer international play. I respect his loyalty there, but it is a possible drain on his health and even commitment to the Blazers. I am feeling Travis would feel worse about being traded than Nic would. And, yes, I personally I would feel worse about seeing Travis go than Batum, if one HAS to go. I don’t want either to go, but maybe positionally, for another center or star PG, maybe someone valuable will have to. I am trusting KP wont make a bad deal for the team, but it will be tough to lose someone from the “family”, especially a long term favorite of many like Travis.

Depending on his summer work, Pendergraph may be the backup power forward we have been looking for. All the lamenting about DeJuan Blair and i see Pen having greater potential in the future. Look at his shot, nice rotation, soft. Who sets more solid screens than him on our team (Joel who is out). Careful what you trade considering the injury bug. Only our depth and Brandon has kept us winning.
