1/10/10 Junk, cuz Tom said so

Well I just got back to college after winter break; however I have not yet registered for classes so I am going to be chillen in the room tomorrow.

Dubai opened the Burj Khalifa building recently, it's the tallest  building EVER,at 2,717 feet high, or 828 meters for you Euros. What's your favorite skyscraper?

It's Oscar season, what are the movies you think everyone ought to see? I thought Avatar was pretty good, but like, brainblastingly fantastic like many people have said but pretty good, impressive visually I guess. Inglorious Basterds was a pretty fanastic film, although it kind of dragged in the middle, and sometimes it felt like Tarantino was in love with his own movie a little too much. Besides that I'm still catching up on movies from this year.

Oh and here's some paintings I've done recently

I'm convinced there's an eHarmony service for NBA trades

And the system is really just David Stern hooking up teams.

“Minnesota, your best match for Kevin Garnett is… AL JEFFERSON. Make the trade now, and don’t ask for more”.

“Seattle, your best match for Ray Allen is… DRAFT PICKS. Boston has the best ones, don’t even ask around. Make the trade now.”

“Memphis, your best match for Pau Gasol is… HIS BROTHER. Sure, you have to hope he’ll eventually be good, but you won’t get a better offer. Make the trade now”.

Then he laughs all the way to the bank.

by Timmay! on Jan 10, 2010 2:44 PM PST up reply actions

yeah, it sure is impressive how the 2 most important NBA franchises

pulled off a series of trades to put themselves in a position to play for the NBA title. I guess it’s good for the NBA on the whole if those teams are doing well, but lopsided trades are just so unsatisfying.

LA will have two big men who can put it on the floor/face up from around 20 feet. Not exactly GO’s defensive comfort zone, and depending on how whistle happy the refs are, that could be a problem

Remember how good Houston was supposed to be when they got McGrady or Portland when they got Pippen? Something would go wrong. The would dominate the season then someone get beat by Memphis in the first round.

by tominhawaii on Jan 10, 2010 2:54 PM PST up reply actions

this is a little different. LA is already an absolute juggernaut who will probably win the title. They would be giving up a disappointing overpaid player for one of the best players in the game.

I posted this in the Bosh to Houston rumor fanpost

I would trade Aldridge+Rudy combined with the expiring contracts of Outlaw and Blake
for Bosh and filler to make the $ balance. Throw in some Euros and picks if they want ’em, too.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yl46p58
Bosh>Aldridge
Rudy will always be stuck behind Roy and can’t play multiple positions all that well.
Outlaw’s scoring off the bench will be missed, but we’ve gotten by without it so far this season.
Blake is on the downswing of his career and is no longer needed.
The Blazers get an elite player to pair with Roy who also fits the team. The Raptors get talent for Bosh instead of losing him outright, young players and a bit of cap relief.
The only thing to figure out is if Bosh would stay and play in Portland. I don’t think a new contract would be an issue. If we paid 70 million to Aldridge we can give Bosh a max deal.
There are 3 things to consider. Does Bosh want to be the number 1 option where he goes? Does Bosh want to be a in big market? Does Bosh want to be on a sure title contender?
First question: If Bosh is open to the idea of pairing with Wade or Lebron in NYC or Chicago then he’s okay with being a number 2 option. Roy defers to his teammates quite a bit already, so Bosh would be more like option 1a here anyway.
Second question: I don’t know enough about the guy to even bother guessing. I don’t think he makes that much from endorsements or ad deals, so maybe coming to Portland and perhaps Nike wouldn’t be a big deal.
Third question: Bosh pairing up with Lebron or Wade is a step above pairing up with Roy, but that doesn’t mean the team around them a is good enough. The Blazers have the talent to contend, especially with Bosh. Plus, it likely wouldn’t take much adjustment to go from Aldridge to Bosh as they are similar players

This is a great recipe, but the key is to pick a salsa you really like. We just grabbed a cheap salsa the first time, and it was mediocre. We tried it again with a really nice salsa, and now it’s one of our favorites. Plus the leftover chicken goes into enchiladas.

Shoes are like cars to me

Any talk of them goes in one ear and out the other. I just can’t care.

I hope she got a free pair or some money under the table for it, at least. GOTTA GOTTA GET PAID, CABBY.

I cringed when the halftime courtside gal interviewed Lebron and said he was a deity. It is too, too much even when he’s doing great.

I don’t get anyone saying Kobe is better than Lebron. Lebron is incredible and just doesn’t shoot as good and takes dumb outside shots sometimes. I see Kobe and don’t get scared; we got 2 guys who can guard him and he’s more than willing to shoot 25+ jumpers. You cannot guard Lebron.

#52

by Mortimer on Jan 10, 2010 9:16 PM PST up reply actions

we did alright in the 2nd half.

you gotta have some who can commit to the double at the right time. Then LeBron gets frustrated a little if done right, But then you need great anticipation to where he might go with the ball and close out on the shooter, I thought we could have done better there.

no really, I have no idea what your problem was, but a hair dryer will expand the boards and perhaps cause whatever chip is not soldered correctly to make a connection and work in the short term. That is – w/o having any idea what your problem was.

It’s a hard problem to fix, because it’s limited by geographic distance.

by Timmay! on Jan 10, 2010 9:34 PM PST up reply actions

My parents got satellite internet

Downloading is fine, uploading super slow, but as long as SO is just doing basic internet (Blazers Edge, email, whatever) it should be totally fine. Just can’t play games on it.

Satellite PHONE, I dunno about.

#52

by Mortimer on Jan 10, 2010 9:36 PM PST up reply actions

You're correct that basic stuff is ok

And there are some ways to mitigate some of the slowness on regular net access.

Areas that depend on very quick response times, like phones, internet gaming, private networking to offices, and some video streaming can be problematic.

by Timmay! on Jan 10, 2010 9:41 PM PST up reply actions

My parents have a landline for the phone

And satellite internet for the internet… downloads are great, my dad downloads MP3s a lot. Netflix’s streaming stuff works great, and Bedge worked just fine while I was home as well.

If SO had to have the satellite PHONE as well, then that’d prolly suck.

My brother hates the satellite internet since he is a gamer and wants to play Counterstrike and stuff, and it won’t work for that, but I bet anything SO would do it would work great.

Likely a cold solder joint from the factory.

The pins don’t make contact in the circuit board, or eventually lose (by cracking) what little contact they have. A hair dryer will do the trick for awhile, but probably at some point that won’t work either.

those were two bad teams out there

Oregon’s shot selection is abominable. They ignore Dunigan like he isn’t even there. Pretty bad loss for them today.

Oregon State just doesn’t seem to have enough shotmakers. They get after it on D though.

I think Cal and ASU will make the tournament and that’s it. Maaaaaaaaybe UW but they need to turn it around fast.

Both the Ducks and the Beavers would be fighting with Princeton for 3rd place if they were in the Ivy League, and I mean that 100%.

what were you expecting?

a plot with a lot of depth? JC makes blockbusters that are intended to appeal to the masses…a world wide audience. you’ll never find depth bc he wants to keep it generic enough that it wont be just relavent in the us.

untrue.

Terminator 2 is proof that Cameron can pull off both.

while my expectations weren’t high, if you’re gonna try to be an important movie, which this undeniably was given it’s content, you better bring it. and this movie didn’t. not even close. It tried to be much more than it actually was, which is never ever ever a good thing.

and the whole issue of the “post-human” with the Terminator attempting to figure out John Connor’s humanity and the line “i know now why you cry” shows some depth.

LMA was good tonight but that play at the end of the game demonstrated why he will never be a Bosh-level player

Bosh would have turned that into and and-1 instead of hesitating, panicing and turning it over.

Bosh is obviously a better player

BUT he’s known for wilting in the 4th as well. Raptor fans are crazy but it’s one of their biggest complaints with him.

#52

by Mortimer on Jan 10, 2010 10:05 PM PST up reply actions

Bosh will be there

Bynum probably won’t. I think the coaches will go with Nene, Marc or Kaman as the backup C rather than add a 3rd Laker.

#52

by jksnake99 on Jan 10, 2010 10:26 PM PST up reply actions

The others deserve it more and I think coaches don't like Bynum that much

BUT, they DO got the best record, and that often gets ya 3 players.

#52 #10 #25 #88 #5

I think its fairly clear the Lakers are better with Odom at 4 and Pau at 5

Bynum’s good, but he’s got to be the one disappointment about this year for Laker fans.

#52

by jksnake99 on Jan 10, 2010 10:30 PM PST up reply actions

if you bang LMA, you gotta hate Bynum for most of the same reasons.

the PER gap to me, doesn’t mean much this time. they are both similar players in terms of weaknesses.

by Cablinasian on Jan 10, 2010 10:32 PM PST up reply actions

by Cablinasian on Jan 10, 2010 10:32 PM PST up reply actions

I think coaches see he could be more

And won’t reward him for his attitude. He isn’t a big enough star to do that.

I will say I will be kinda annoyed if he makes it, but will think it’s just because of their record.

#52

by Mortimer on Jan 10, 2010 10:30 PM PST up reply actions

yeah, Bynum's got a shot

It will be interesting.

There’s an outside shot Memphis sends Zbo and Marc to the ASG, and they might even deserve it! How crazy is that?

#52

by jksnake99 on Jan 10, 2010 10:29 PM PST up reply actions

yeah, you're right. No way Memphis gets 2 guys.

In fact, the coaches might split votes between them, knocking both of them out.

The west team should be CP3, Kobe, Melo, Dirk and Tim starting with Roy, DWill, Nash, Durant, Pau, Carl Landry and either Marc or Nene off the bench if the system was based on merit, which of course it isn’t.

#52

by jksnake99 on Jan 10, 2010 10:35 PM PST up reply actions

I'm betting coaches still wouldn't vote for Z-Bo

I think he wouldn't help as much since Kobe and Pau will still do most of the damage

He would help, but I think it just wouldn’t add as much as it would if he replaced Pau… but Pau is better for the Lakers than Bosh would be.

I dunno. Bosh isn’t a killer. Match up wise, they can’t guard Oden without Bynum, and I plan on Oden being healthy since we got no shot otherwise.

LA can’t afford another max contract. Bynum was pushing it.

#52

by Mortimer on Jan 10, 2010 10:18 PM PST up reply actions

Oden can guard Pau

He isn’t that quick, he’s more traditional. He’d made him less effective by shooting more jumpers.

Batum, Webster, LMA can all guard Bosh.

I think it’d be a mistake to lose a good, young, nicely priced big like Bynum, even though Bosh is a better player.

#52

by Mortimer on Jan 10, 2010 10:22 PM PST up reply actions

As that synergy breakdown showed, Oden struggled with faceup players. Pau is a very good midrage shooter.

I can’t see us beating that hypothetical Laker team unless Kobe slowed down a lot, even if Oden’s healthy and out of foul trouble, which is still a ginormous if.

#52

by jksnake99 on Jan 10, 2010 10:24 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t think we do either, but I think Oden on Pau would be a massive plus for us. He already backed Pau down easily last April, and that’s without his nifty postmoves.

by Cablinasian on Jan 10, 2010 10:25 PM PST up reply actions

The NBA has awarded the Defensive Player of the Year since 1983. Since then, 16 players have won.

Name those players. The ones before 1986 get progressively harder. If you don’t wish to count those, there are 13 from the “modern era”. Bonus points if you get the early ones.

really well...we went up to Pasco and played "The Question Game" most of the way there and back

the rules are simple—you take turns asking anything to the other person and they have to answer. the penalty for not answering is you are officially deemed “lame”

It was fun. 8 hours in the car of just talking is a good way to get to know someone. we finally just opened up and talked about whatever the heck was on our minds, so it was pretty cool. we had a lotta’ fun. plus she hadn’t really hung with my fam much, so once we got up there it was cool to spend a weekend with them.

For one of our questions I asked

“What is the probability, in your mind, that you’ll marry me, and what have I ever done that ‘s made you question whether or not I’d be a good mate?”

I was expecting a 50-80% with a list of things I’d done that bugged her…she shoots back, “99.8%, and I can’t think of anything.”

I was like….danggggg. What have I got myself into? lolol

An important Supreme Court ruling is coming soon.

Yahoo News

If the court rules the NFL is a single business entity, then teams would be able to negotiate as a unit instead of separately as they do now. Owners would be free from having to compete with each other on things like player salaries and ticket prices.

A decision granting the NFL a blanket antitrust exemption could lead to player strikes not only in football, but also pro basketball, hockey and other sports, player advocates said. It also could give leagues leeway to reduce player salaries by ending free agency, raise ticket prices and even reshape nonsport business practices.

underrated nugget in the Canzano piece.

Roy scored 34 points Sunday. At the very least, Allen left with an appreciation of how every star player needs a good No. 2 option. Portland doesn’t have one beside Roy while LeBron’s brilliant performance is amplified further because he has a nice supporting cast.

When Paul Allen says he wants Chris Paul and Lebron, will KP be able to pull it off?

I wonder if Canzano is confusing the rules with baseball

because with no salary cap getting LeBron this offseason would be a real possibility

He doesn’t get how stuff works.
