Jerryd Bayless and that missed free throw
This is what really happened in that exchange between Bayless, Roy and Miller during the Memphis game.

Anyway, the important thing is Bayless is Blake 2.0 in late game situations.
In Bayless I trust.

Ridiculous how much of the rim that touched...
…and then it literally was inside the basket before popping out as if with a vacuum.

Nice
I still the right call was to make the freethrow. It would have been a small miracle for LA or Roy to get that rebound over Gasol and Zach. Make the freethrow, foul immediately and you have 3.5 seconds to push the ball for a look at the 3. Neither one is likely to work out, but I think the latter is the better option.
RUDY > MJ
But, of course, if I could make a dunk on his face I would. - Rudy
push the ball in 3.5 seconds to make a three sounds like a job for rudy.
"There are a few teams you have to watch out for in the fourth quarter."
"Yeah, but Portland definitely is not one of them."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters at the end of the third quarter with the Hornets leading 74-59. Portland later ends up winning 97-89.
"They don't mind him shooting that shot at all. Rudy Fernandez is not that great of a 3pt shooter."
-New Orleans Hornets broadcasters right after a Rudy Fernandez missed 3pter. Rudy Fernandez finished the game with three 3pters on six attempts.

When you think about how different this team would look
if you had all of those guys back (Rudy’s shooting, Outlaw’s crazy shots, Batum’s D, the two big guys inside)… it just explodes my brain.

And that's what they did.
I feel like everyone missed what happened after this. They made the first free throw, missed the second, and the Blazers could not get the rebound in time and ended up tipping it out of bounds. In that situation, up 3, there is a good number of teams that will miss the second free throw with 3 seconds left. Especially with their front line, they’re more likely to grab the rebound than we are anyways.
I believe strongly that we have a better chance of grabbing an offensive rebound on our own missed free throw than we do a defensive rebound on their missed free throw, especially in that situation, the likelihood of advancing the ball in less than 4 seconds off a missed free throw, with no timeouts… Just not going to happen. Missing the free throw there would have given us our best opportunity to win, given the circumstances. WE HAD NO TIMEOUTS.
