Oregon Media Central: Jason Quick Changes Stations
OregonMediaCentral.com is reporting...
Alpha Broadcasting's 95.5 The Game has poached Jason Quick, The Oregonian's Portland Trail Blazers reporter, from Entercom's 1080 The Fan, OMC has confirmed.
Though Quick says the move was a tough decision, he adds that "The Game has a vision which intrigues me."
Without any original reporting, The Fan is left searching for a new contributor among possibilities like the Portland Tribune's Kerry Eggers or The Columbian's Brian Smith, while The Game picks up a Blazers insider with over a decade of experience covering sports for The Oregonian.
One step closer to total Blazer domination over at 95.5FM.
Somewhere in a recording studio, a deep voice is practicing, "JASSSSSSSSON QUIIIIIIIIICK BLAZERSSSSSSSSSSS INSIDER ON 95.5 THE GAAAAAAAME THE GAME THE GAME."
Full Court Press coming tomorrow morning. Enjoy your holiday.

Podcasts, ftw
It allows me to avoid any chance of accidentaly listening to John C-zo.
On demand, baby! On demand!
I know less than half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
Sweet! Super excited to have Quick on The Game. Can’t wait to add him to the list of Blazer related guests on The MSP.

Blazer coverage
The Game pretty much has the Fan beat in this department. I’m also really liking Rashad Flloyd, was listening to him fill in for Wheeler on the way back from the grocery store and he runs a good show. Speciffically, I like how he (gasp) engages callers who disagree with his opinions rather than cutting them off on the spot and clowning them on the air. He has some potential, imo.
Team Bayless - The takeover begins in 2009
Sounds like..........
good replacement for the 3:00pm spot!
How about an interview...
…with the guy who does the 95.5 intros. You need to get him on the Wingcast, BG.
No more oregonian?
does this mean quick doesn’t do anything for the paper anymore, or is he just doing more now?
Still at the O
Just contributing to The Game rather than The Fan.
This is a sad sad day for Big Suke (AKA Mortimer)

Wow, that was basically the only thing 1080 The Fan had going for it that was Blazer related. Isaac and Suke have very little insight on the subject. You could probably pull any two people off of this site and get better analysis and material.
that, and Channing Frye
Keeping Portland wierd
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
When is this show supposed to be on the air?
They won’t replace Rome, so it’ll probably be after Strong, in the 7-10 gap before JT the Brick

Contributor
rather than host. The Game’s schedule stays intact.
It's nice that John "J.T. the Brick" Tournour was demoted to overnights to make room for Tony Bruno.
Once Tournour’s overpiced contract is up with Clear Channel Communications, Inc. owned and operated Premiere Radio Networks — which is the network service of Fox Sports Radio — he may well be out of a job in a cost-cutting move.
Stupid people have stupid ideas.
He has a longer show now
And I think that he’s popular enough with his listeners that FSR would lose some of it’s audience if they let him go
Blazers win!
Bruno much superior to JT
Anyone else remember Bruno from the Madden game from a few years ago?

Ugh... that is terrible
The only time I have to listen to sports radio is in the late afternoon and The Fan is the lesser evil. Quick and Frye were highlights.
Still won’t listen to the bald one but I will have to depend on this site more unless the Fan reloads.
I was there with you for a while
but the Fan has pretty much waived the white flag on local programming. I like the ESPN guys for long weekend drives, but if I want Blazer/UO/OSU coverage, the Fan has nothing there. Frustrating, they used to be a lot better a few years back, but now it’s pretty much a wasteland as far as local stuff goes.
Give Rashad Floyd a permanent slot on 95.5 the Game
The Game = Good for Blazers and UO coverage...
But that’s it. I would like a better mixture of coverage as I am a non-native and a fan of sports in general. The Game is hyperlocal and The Fan isn’t. We are lucky to have both but I want to hear about what is happening outside of the Oregon bubble at times as well. I’d love to see another national host (or a local host that covers both Blazers, regional (Pac 10 athletics, not just UO) and national news as well) but it is obvious that The Game and Fan are going in opposite directions with their programing..
Just signed up for Blazersedge
because I was very excited to hear about this. I’ve been a long time lurker at BE and this good news made me want to “come out” :D I really enjoyed listening to Quick back when I used to listen to the Fan. Hopefully the MSP and Wheels have him on regularly.
THIS is the news that converted you from a lurker to a contributor???
just kidding, friend…welcome

not a fan of the game
The only time I really listen is the 3-5 timeslot, and Isaac and Suke are far superior to Canzano

Far Superior?
Far from it, thats why the “established” Suke show gets knocked down a peg with new boy the game coming on the air. Suke is terrible and just blurts out trash from his mouth. He only knows College football and NFL, but even then he is pretty narrow minded. I like the game for the simple fact that it is a local focus on every show, national sports can be found on just about any outlet, heck you can even stream it from a phone!
Local sports coverage in Portland was a complete rarity until the game came on the air. Finally a station that isn’t afraid to put its own shows on instead of being 80% ESPN station. Plus the sound quality, geez, AM just doesn’t cut it anymore. I keep trying to switch back to hear Isaac and Suck, but I can never keep myself on there, even when Canzano is full of it. I would like to see a Canzano/Suke showdown! Battle of the Egocentrics! (Remember when the BFT was on primetime?
Both!
Hey,they at least both talk some sports. They are off enough on their commercial break timing so you can listen to both… which is good, because each station has programming I like, and, well, let’s just call the rest the Chads…
BEdge should have a presence on 95.5
Get a panel of fans to do nothing but discuss the Blazers and the NBA every night.
We could have one or two regulars a month, with the other couple contributors vary from day to day. Ben could be the producer and Dave could call in once a week to discuss things.
Thoughts?
Blazers win!

No more radio for me
I listened to 2 straight seasons on am radio. I love WHeels and Tone. ANyways, I came outta the stone age and got NBA league pass. Now 1080 or 95.5 is a moot point. But, I also had no choice for FM because I live to far away, am was my only choice.

I didn't even know 1080 the Fan was still around
I stopped listening to those clowns a long long time ago. 95.5 has my loyalty as long as they keep Benjamin Franklin on the air.

What has journalism become?
Isaac and Suke both say they do not have time for any serious research or real journalism. They see themselves more as personalities than media members with any real responsibilities. Their tendencies are first, to try to be funny, second, to pander to baser instincts (hot chicks), and then third, finish this brew off with a bunch of angry moralizing in order to show how enlightened they are beyond the limits of the sporting world.
While they are at it, they seem to view themselves as being above the fanatics, which include Portland Trail Blazers fans. Their knowledge of the players and team suffer accordingly and serves as an example of how stunted a persons learning capacity can become when they attempt to act knowledgeable about something that they really don’t care about.
I would compare this phenomenon to having children when you don’t really want them. The children (fans) rightly end up wondering whether or not they would have been better off with different parents.
In summary, I refer to Isaac and Suke as examples of what I would call, "Hillbilly Journalism." A kind of journalism that is better suited to regions where graduating from high school is thought of as a major accomplishment. Characterized by voluminous opinions without the need of any solid basis in fact, study, or even solemnity. Sort of like attempting to create a cult that worships ignorance.
I guess in the end, it is to each their own, but I really do hate to have what they so often have say about the Trailblazers going out over the airways. To me, what they say is regularly unprofessional and worse yet, belittling of our only major professional sports franchise.
There is more to an athlete than how fast they can run, they also better be able to see what they are doing and know why they are doing it.

1080 is a joke now
its AM first, so doesnt come in near as good as FM. and second, they still play the mariners sometimes and thats a joke… glad we have 95.5, best thing for sports in portland.
