BT Smith interviews McMillian
On experimenting with lineups right now: "I don't want do that too much."
On Roy and Miller playing at the same time and becoming comfortable with each other: "That is not going to happen in the preseason." McMillan said he trusts Roy and Miller, and that they are good enough to take the court together at any time. His point: Their relationship will work itself out, and there is nothing to worry about.
According to McMillan, he has been trying Fernandez out at the point guard position more than normal.

Not experimenting, but trying Rudy at PG more?
Seems a little contradictory, but I’m glad to hear it. KP said today that they are going to get Rudy more minutes. As I’ve maintained for a long time, the only way to do that is with some Roy/Rudy backcourt.
Nate is really going to earn his money this year. We had better win big, else I can see a lot of conflict ahead.

I have been an advocate for the Roy/Rudy backcourt for a while now
Still, I am a bit surprised that they are looking at Rudy at PG right now. With Miller and Blake, there is already a minutes crunch at PG and if Rudy gets significant minutes there as well it would mean both Miller and Blake getting a lot fewer minutes than they are used to.

this is true
as RFS1970 already knows, my take is that Rudy will get the opportunity to experiment at PG during the preseason, but when “the lights turn on and the popcorn starts popping” on Oct 27th, it will be Miller and Blake splitting the 48 PG minutes 30-18 (with a few seconds reserved for Bayless, during garbage time)
If Rudy can beat one of those veteran PGs out for “their” PT, more power to him. But Blake was called “irreplaceable” in Freeman’s column yesterday, and Steve came into camp on a mission to hold onto as many of his minutes as he possibly can, especially when Brandon is also on the court
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

Yah
Me too. He’s jumped strongly into the Blazers fray. I hope The Columbian doesn’t go belly up so we can see more of his work.
Speaking of The Columbian, does anyone else notice quite a bit of lag when clicking on their stories? Talk about a slow server.
