True story

I’ve seen the ancestral home of Major John Pitcairn, the British leader at Lexington. It’s just a stone ruin, a few walls still standing.

He wasn’t born there, he was born a few miles to the south, the son of a minister. Generally, a nobleman’s son inherited the family home and title, and second and third sons were appointed as ministers or went into the military. So I guess probably his uncle was in the ancestral home when he was born.

He was born in Dysart, a little village next to Kirkcaldy, just across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

More information than you wanted to know. There must be some significance in all that, but I don’t know what.
