Patty Mills Eyes Final Portland Spot
He's flying back to Portland because he wants to be in the NBA rather than go to Europe.

Please give Patty Mills a chance!
I really believe that the best thing for Bayless would be to go up against Patty in practice if he can get back his speed it would be great practice for those real speedy point guards that we are lacking guarding ability on. I know a lot of people Think that our greatest need is a banging 4 but I see the few reely speedy PG’s as our bigest defensive handicap, right now Blake and Miller can not stay in front of them, so we either need to shadow with Battum or bring in Bayless and pray or live with what the PG’s do if Mills was on the roster, than Bayless would get some practice trying to stay in front of him good for both. Plus Mills could turn out to be one of the best very fast PG’s in the NBA. What’s your thoughts?

pre-draft scouting report on Mills
he’s really a SG in a tiny PG’s body. He has great straight-ahead speed but not much wiggle and he’s not adept at setting up his teammates or defending any kind of NBA-quality guard
I know Kenny Vance loves him, and KP has a “fetish” for PGs, but Patty won’t get a better opportunity in Portland than Taurean Green, and we know how quickly that tune played out
When reached 39 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!

I'd offer the draft rights of Patty Mills to a team like the Toronto Raptors for, oh, the draft rights ...
of Greek prospect Giorgios Printezis — who’s a 24-year-old combo forward with a skill set similar to Victor Claver, as well as a teammate of Joel Freeland’s on Unicaja Málaga — as the diminutive little waterbug would add some more international flavor to Canada’s sole professional basketball team.
Mills would have to beat out undersized shooting guard Quincy Douby — who has a non-guaranteed contract — for the Raptors 15th and final roster spot. The Aussie, however, would be a nice offensive sparkplug on the Raptors third-string backcourt next to the strong, defensive-minded — yet completely offensively challenged — point guard Marcus Banks.

He is mostly flying back because the Blazers want to monitor his progress and not have another Martell-foot-situation

I stand by my original take on this situation.
“I’d advise Patty Mills to sign the non-guaranateed one-year, $457,588 contract tender that’s offered to every second-round draft picks. For Mills, the worst-case scenario is the Portland Trail Blazers would just waive him. Yet, under those circumstances, the Aussie would in turn become a free agent with the ability to sign with any NBA team.
That exact situation happened with Demetris Nichols and the New York Knicks in 2007.

Nichols, however, got another chance with the Knicks via a couple of ten-day contracts the following season, although that came after stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls.

Suffice it to say, though, I’m not sure what’s going on with Nichols nowadays. I don’t necessarily care, either."

AK1984 can you clarify this?
Are you saying that a team MUST make this $457,588 contract tender in order to retain a 2nd round pick’s RIGHTS for the following year? Have the Blazers made this offer for Mills?
If so, and Mills signs, is he guaranteed that $457,588, regardless of whether he makes the roster or not?

Isn't the camp roster already set at 17?

So far, I believe that 18 guys have been invited to training camp.
In any event, though, the limit for training camp is a 20-man roster.

I feel sorry for Patty
But he’s not going to make the roster. He’s hurt and not close to being good enough..yet.
