Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

About his personal challenge for next season:

The challenge this year is to get minutes on the court, that´s the main thing. And also the most important thing is to have a more important role than the one I had last year. It is true that it´s always difficult when having the team franchise player in my same position, but also it is true that last year we played quite a few time together and it worked out quite well.

About the "difficult" second year in the NBA:

It´s true that contenders already know more about you, they know how you usually play, and clearly yes, that´s difficult. But I think the most important thing is that I can be on the court, getting playing time, and that would mean things are going well.

About the impact in USA of his performance in the Eurobasket:

I sincerely think it won´t have got the repercussion that had the Olympics final, because ..., you know the United States, you know how they are, and for them it´s not so important as the World Championship or the Olympics.

About his life without Sergio:

it is something disrupting, to the effect that, I think you found out the percentage of passes coming to me from Sergio when he was on the court and it was more than 50%, just imagine. In pre-season we´ll play two games against them (Sacramento Kings) and, well, well. The truth is that I´m going to feel weird when playing against him.

Would you participate in the NBA dunk contest if invited?

No, impossible. If it´s the three-point contest I would, but the dunk contest...

How “important” are team goals vs. Rudy’s individual goals? We’ll see

It is true that it´s always difficult when having the team franchise player in my same position

This is a conflict that will not be going away, unless Roy gets hurt

but also it is true that last year we played quite a few time together and it worked out quite well.

But now Brandon is 10+ pounds lighter, Nic is a year older/better and Webster is back

(What? Me worry?)

Rudy will soldier in Portland for 3 more years, get a ring or 2 and go on to bigger and better things

Thats cool,Rudy is not just saying the right things he is being honest about his game and future in a class act way.

I think 3 years is optimistic

If Rudy has the patience of Job, maybe. Sure, his contract runs through 2012-13 (“qualifiying offer” in 2012) but it’s hard to imagine Portland being able to satisfy Rudy’s need for PT and yearly “more important role” requests with Roy being on the roster.

The two Blazer SGs have different offensive skills but what makes them difficult to “pair up” is their size and how they should only guard players of a similar size on the defensive end. Unless Nate wants to play a lot of zone and 3-guard lineups, the minutes simply aren’t going to be “there” for Rudy. (And Nic Batum is going to be requiring more PT and a “more important role” at the 3 as time goes by.) Last spring I put Rudy’s “Blazer egg timer” at 18-24 months. That means all of this season, and halfway through next season, or maybe to July of 2011. If he plays for Portland any longer than that, then that means the roster either will have morphed into something I can’t recognize at this point in time, or that Rudy will have settled into a reserve role and become satisfied winning rings in red/black, which wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

I'm betting on Rudy being a Blazer for 2 more seasons at the very most .Then he's

gone. The more I hear and read about him, the more I’m getting the feeling that he’ll wind up playing out much of his career back in Europe where the situations will be more suitable for his tastes.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
