The Baseline: Blazers #6 in preseason power rankings
6. Portland. Andre Miller could be the piece the Blazers are missing to get this young bunch to championship level. But by the time the young pieces reach their prime, Miller might be too old.

Why are prognosticators so intent on putting the Wizards in the top 10?
that’s a 45 win team IF everyone stays healthy.

man
they overrate,
the Mavs – They sqeeked into the playoffs with a good last 2 weeks last year, then add players that duplicate players they already have. How is this team better?
the Wiz – I agree with Magnum, 45 wins tops if Gilbert is back to his old self. Can anyone remember the max number of wins the Wiz had in a season when Agent 0 was healthy?
They under rate
Orlando – They go to the finals, and replace Hedo with Carter, yet they somehow fall from 2nd best team to 8th best? Maybe that is unfair since Boston had injuries, but they beat the Cavs fairly enough to convince me that they were the best team in the East last year. Boston is older, the Cav’s added Shaq which could explode in their face. Orlando should be the preseason #1 in the East in my book. Less questions, more obvious imporvement in their player transactions.

Not to mention Orland has a healthy Jameer Nelson back, who missed half the season last year.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
ditto on the Orlando point
and I’m pretty sure 45 wins is their highest total with Agent 0.

Wizards and Raptors are very likely too high
Wizards over Magic? Who on the Wizards stops Dwight Howard from scoring? Who stops Vince Carter? Exactly

I definitely don't see Houston slipping to cellar dweller this year.
#23? No way. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make the playoffs, with or without Yao.
But I like to be here. Oh, I like it a lot! Said the Cat in the Hat. To the fish in the pot.

Bench power.
They talk about the Mavs bench at 5 & how deep the Wiz are at 7 but put a disclaimer on the Blazers. No respect

I liked the comment
that questioned Portland’s ranking because they have “underachieved” recently. I am surprised he didn’t mention Zach’s penchant toward ringing up stats instead of playing team ball and Bonzi’s mercurial temper…though the guy must have a pretty cool time machine…

Fenster: I said he'll flip you.
Interrogation Cop: He'll what?
Fenster: Flip you. Flip ya for real.

That's weird
Maybe the writer was referring to exiting in the 1st round to a lower ranked team. I guess that is underachieving. Even though it is not rare for the 5 team to beat the 4 team, and Houston was the perfect team to beat the Blazers.
I get the paper, so I don't care!
I say we're #4 with a bullet
The Spurs got better, and they got Popovich, but the core is eroding. They will play with desperation, but I don’t seem them better than the Blazers.
Dallas is an amalgam. Another experiment. Kidd will need to have a throwback year to pull that team together.
Boston is aging, too. And there young talent doesn’t beat ours. The Celtics window might be closing. They got theirs, time to wrap it up. Orlando is probably better than them.
The Blazers got this guy named Oden. All the prognosticators seem to have forgotten him. He is going to make a big dent this season.
Gonna be a blast!
