Like Kelly Dwyer, "I can't say I'm as smitten with Pritchard as most."
Until Pritchard proves he can finish the job, then his status is up in the air.

That's fair
The complete overhaul and transformation from laughingstock to envy of the league is very impressive though.
KP definitely needs to be judged by how this all ends though. Or at least, judgement should be reserved until then. He at least can form a great young team, which is better than most. He’s been great at drafting talent and dealing with people, and brought in a cap expert that helped a grip.
So, to me, he’s done a great job thus far but now that the expectations are so high, we gotta seal the deal before we can place him among the greats— even if that’s unfair. He doesn’t play the game, after all.
KP is a very, very, very young GM in this business. Even if our team doesn’t make it, he’s got plenty of time to define himself.

Except there is never a guarantee of a championship
no matter how good the GM is.
I’d be hard-pressed to say our front office failed in constructing those early 90s teams. They put together a team that was a legit contender over several years. That’s really all a GM can accomplish.
We could have a dominant team that wins 65 every year, and always loses to a team led by LBJ. I’m not saying I expect it, but if it happens, has KP failed? I would say no.

And yet...
you get weak in the knees for the likes of Mark Warkentien and Daryl Morey who haven’t exactly “finished the job”, as you say.

I think Mark W. is my least favorite GM.
Talk about Pritch-slaps, the AI/Billups trade? He even said he noticed AI was sucking a bit more in drills so he wanted to move him before the milk totally soured.
And look at his team. What is he? Bob, Jr.? He can stockpile the talented bad boys, but he can’t get the right ones to make it to the finals. Sorry. Mark is clearly worse at his job than Trader Bob.

KP has shown he can (re)build a roster through savvy draft day trades
The next step in his development as a GM is to show he can “tweak” a roster at the trading deadline to prepare it for post-season success
this requires a delicate touch, not taking a backhoe to the roster.

I'm not
He’s got Bill Simmonsitist and seems to only be able to make lists. I got nothing against his opinion, I just don’t see much value in what he puts out.

I think his value is in a peer comparison.
Everybody else is worse, so Kelly is a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, I can see that
It’s still like being the best players on last year’s Lion’s team. I heard the next Dwyer article is going to be the 10 best letters in the a;alphabet.

After that will be the 10 best typos

Ben should write that as a guest commentary: The 10 dopest shoes of the decade (and the main player who wore them)

I have Dwyer's list, it wasn't as detailed as that
1. 11
2. 11.5
3. 10.5
4. 10
5. 12
6. 12.5
7. 13
8. 9.5
9. 9
10. 8.5

No way 10.5 is worse than 11.5!

In Dwyer's defense
Because I think he’s the best national NBA writer right now as well, he’s admitted that the lists are dumb and it’s because it’s the slow offseason.
He doesn’t normally do lists like this, during the regular part of the year.

Hmm
I must not read him that much. I only know him from lists and that creepy Jordan post.

Donnie Nelson over KP, Ainge, Kupchak? Even as a Mavs fan I'm not that high on him. He made some terrible decisions, and almost made more (like drafting a stiff Russian bust over Devin Harris)
It’s sometimes hard to say what is Donnie and what was his father and Cuban, but that’s also proof that he hardly put his own mark on the organization. He is known to come up with a lot of good and unusual ideas and call up opposing GMs at least as much as KP, but he didn’t get that much done this decade to revamp the team and help put the right guys around Dirk to win.

I think #10 is too low for Morey. He has been a pretty awesome GM.
And let’s be honest, Kupchak is too high. Yes he has made some shrewd moves and put together a championship team, but it would be pretty easy to do that when you inherit a team with the biggest super-star in the NBA, a TOP choice free agent destination, and when Jerry West gift wraps and sends to your door one of the biggest lop-sided trades of recent memory. I think dozens of GM’s could have put that team together.
