Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

I'm happy 4 ya and imma let u finish this 9/23 JD but...

Ok so i know this is a little late but I haven't had internet for a few days so It's still funny to me, dangnabit!(nsfw language if u think the other form of dangnabit is nsfw). The "imma let you finish" meme is taking over the meme game. and with such awesome works of art like this, how could it not? So the topic I am going to post and hopefully Bleeps(blazer peeps) will discuss in depth is after the jump.

Star-divide

Welcome back! That was a long jump wasn't it? No just some stars? Awe Shoot!

Anyways my topic is internet Memes. Do ya like'em? and if so, what are some of your favorites?

My current favorite is, drumroll please, Courage Wolf(very nsfw but also very hilarious so it's a catch 22) Here is a sample

Breaktherules_medium

via knowyourmeme.com

I know it's just a spin off from Advice Dog(again some nsfw stuff) but for me it's like Frasier to Cheers(that is one classy symbol) Some people prefer the spin off.

There are also some more know meme's like LOLcats, Pedobear

and of course there is rickrolld

but did you know there was a predecessor to that called  duckroll?

If u are interested in finding more memes, just go here.

Lastly, Word.

Nice JD!

As soon as I started reading, I thought: “I have to find out what a meme is”, but you’re so brilliant that you foresaw that a dummy like myself would need help, so you linked to the definition IN the post…. BRILLIANT.

Meme is a term coined by Dawkins in The Selfish Gene in the late 70s. Also, I think meme might mean something else in Spanish.

Meme is being significantly mis-used by the entire universe.

Good thing Dawkins is a soft spoken British fellow, or he’d have to Kanye everybody.

I don’t know if I buy Dawkins view of genes, let alone that this concept would carry into memes. But it makes for an interesting way to describe random crap that gets popular.

The beauty of postseason baseball

is that the hot team takes it all. Yanks and Cards are very strong but Phillies are also great and can go a long way if somebody comes through as a closer. Angels have enough of everything to figure into things. Red Sox have colossal pitching and plenty of bats. Etc. So, whoever gets on a hot streak. – Elgin

i disagree about the Red Sox

pitching and the Angels all around talent. If you go by hottest team, I think the Rockies are a good bet. Also, if the Twins actually catch Detroit, they’d probably be considered the hottest team going in to the playoffs.

I already had tried to get McNabb earlier when BRP lost his patience ;)

I think I can afford to sit him a bit while he heals with my 2 solid QBs, then maybe do a trade later when he is fully back to upgrade another position.

Prez had a similar idea to me, well that didn’t work perfectly but still very nice getting a few highly ranked guys. Still have a little bit unfortunate bye week configuration having to sit guys against stronger opponents, but well it seems manageable. So far my pickups didn’t produce what I had hoped to achieve in theory, but I feel like I improved slowly.

well done. and may I chime in here about something

recently pressure was applied to BE to put up a countdown clock until the season starts. Apparently many felt the anxiety levels increasing caused by a dull summer and approaching season with great hope was too much to endure without a counter reminding them of how long until game one.

Apparently, Ben, in his attempt to please every single Bedger, caved to the vocal oscillations of the distressed throng and embedded a countdown clock below the Fanshots.

Well, a watched pot never boils. The same principle applies to clock-watching. Who among us hasn’t wondered how much longer the work day is going to drag on, all the while continually watching the clock to see how long until quitting time? I’m saying it doesn’t work and it doesn’t help.

Ban the countdown clock now!

Instead of just ranting I also offer a solution to those sado-masochistic fiends who “like” the reminder. Walk over to your calender with a pen and mark Blazer’s Season Begins. Just so you know, it’s in 34 days, 11 hours, 32 minutes and 50 seconds.

End rant.

Mainly possession of a criminal weapon or something to that effect. And endangering others.

He had a license for a concealed weapon in Florida that had run out, and had never cared to get a new one in the state or city of NY (where it happened) or NJ (where he lived). That was his downfall. NY has very tough gun laws instituted to prevent gang and drug crime, and the minimum sentence would have been 3 years 6 months. Several politicians of course stated that he should be no exception from the rule even though he was the only victim of the “crime”. And all his lawyers could bargain was 2 years in prison of which he’ll likely serve 20 months, and 2 years under probation and supervision.

I swear it was last year.

Sorry, no idea about the Medford affiliates.

by Timmay! on Sep 23, 2009 10:31 AM PDT up reply actions

I think that's out of the blackout zone for NBA League Pass

if you wanna shell out cash for it.

otherwise, considering idk if there is Comcast down there, your best bet would be to find some sites with good links (i know a couple) and figure it out on gamedays…

"Early to bed, early to rise, makes a woman healthy, wealthy, and wise. That's why you all are wiser than me. It's cloudydays."

by cloudydays on Sep 23, 2009 10:39 AM PDT up reply actions

You will have a radio station broadcasting it

Plus, like Timmay says, the NBA made their radio feeds free online.

You will be able to find a bar showing the Blazer games on league pass, if you can’t shell out the scratch for your own subscription. I think it’s a great deal; something like 120 bucks if you get it during the special during the first part of the season, and if you ONLY watch every Blazer game it’s worth the price. If, like me, you watch as much as you can in addition to the Blazers, it’s pennies a game.

But a sports bar will show it. I just say, if you’re going to watch EVERY game for your work (you’re a reporter, right?), the price of a soda at the bar (just one) adds up to more than you’d pay for league pass overall.

There are definitely options down there. Blazers.com says what stations they broadcast games on somewhere on their site, across the state.

by Mortimer on Sep 23, 2009 11:52 AM PDT up reply actions

Head down to Ashland

15 mins south of Medford….the local cable company has CSN…so you can watch them in bar or something

If you ever need a bank in Wyoming

You may want to reconsider using Rocky Mountain Bank.

According to court documents, the bank in August received a request from one of its customers asking for certain loan statements to be sent to a third-party. An employee of the bank, responding to the request, sent the documents to the wrong Gmail address.

In addition to the requested loan information, the bank employee also inadvertently attached a file containing names, addresses, tax identification numbers and other details on 1,325 account holders to the same address.

It goes downhill from there.

Did you know we are living in a period that will be the sixth great mass extinction of species in Earth's history? Sad.

We are discovering about 50 new species per day, nearly 17,000 new ones were described in 2006. That’s about 1% addition to our knowledge about living species.

But at the same time, we are losing species at an estimated 10,000 times the natural rate. Mainly due to deforestation of tropical forests, destruction of ocean habitats, etc. Every once in a while you hear nice stories about a new kind of frog or insect or rodent discovered in Brazil or New Guinea, some bird breeding again in the US, etc. But all in all, we are living in a time when the variety on the planet goes down a lot.

Well, it’s hard to estimate since we don’t know the number of species since, duh, we don’t know how many hundreds of thousands or even millions we haven’t found and described yet. What we do know is that we are losing more already known ones than we are adding, and very likely losing ones that we don’t know yet be it plants or animals. When the environmental factors change faster than life can adapt, we are losing biodiversity no matter at which speed. And even the most well-meant programs aren’t stopping it as long as habitats get destroyed for the foreseeable future. When the human race is becoming a natural disaster comparable only to massive changes in the geology or atmosphere millions of years ago, that is sad.

The agent in the Matrix had a good point: We are a virus, and it’s spreading taking up more and more resources.

by tingeyga on Sep 23, 2009 12:38 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, I'm very much in favor of putting some uncertainty bounds on these types of estimates

but while they are often reported in the scientific literature, they are usually left off of what makes it into the mainstream media, which does lead some people to think the accuracy is better than it actually is.

The general public likes to be given one number, instead of a 95% confidence interval. Despite what the likes of timg56 would say, though, the failure of the media to report said confidence intervals doesn’t make the whole studie(s) junk.

The general public would ignore it anyways because no one teaches kids how to read and interpret research findings. I know. I taught research methods at the under and grad levels, and the misconceptions are still there. A lot of time is spent beating the way people accept knowledge and increasing how persnickety they are about the design, measurement, and analysis used in the research studies.

But you are 100% correct. Reading popular science findings are funny.

He didn't mind the peer review part of the job too much. He liked his job because he was allowed to do basically what he wanted in terms of research

which is why he took the job in the first place.

But sometimes I wonder about how much corruption there really is in the scientific community. Not so much outright corruption where scientists openly sell a certain result on a study, but more of a subtler “tweak the data to show what my funding source wants” type of corruption.

That sort of thing can happen in any field.

But, it will generally be the exception. In the scientific community, people would figure that out usually.

I’m a fan of Crichton’s idea:

Sooner or later, we must form an independent research institute in this country. It must be funded by industry, by government, and by private philanthropy, both individuals and trusts. The money must be pooled, so that investigators do not know who is paying them. The institute must fund more than one team to do research in a particular area, and the verification of results will be a foregone requirement: teams will know their results will be checked by other groups. In many cases, those who decide how to gather the data will not gather it, and those who gather the data will not analyze it.

All science has its biases though. It can’t be avoided— science costs money. Judge science on the merits of the study not the circumstances of the funding. The only time you need to be wary of science because of who is publishing it is if it is obviously producing a censored version.

I don’t think anybody on either side of the political spectrum has an agenda that says “lets make more species extinct”. Conservatives, Christians, Libertarians, Greens, Communists, anybody can agree on trying to protect our world for whatever reason they have. Even the people chopping or burning down tropical forests directly don’t intend to do that, it’s just a side effect of them trying to make a better living in an unfortunate fashion.

The political agenda would come into play when people or companies try to make money from a trend towards more ecological living just to make money from it. It’s something that I don’t really like (e.g. selling carbon footprint certificates to make you feel better when you burn fuel while traveling. If everyone on the planet would do it, you can’t “offset” that anymore to make you feel better). And the difficult thing of course is we really don’t know yet if we as humans can do ANYTHING to at least slow down the process a lot or reverse it. But I would rather try and fail than not try at all – or learn later that it wasn’t necessary to try so hard. Future generations who know better would hardly criticize us for doing too much. At the moment we aren’t even trying so hard that the economic progress (worldwide, but especially in developed countries) would have to slow down significantly by “passing up” opportunities. It might even create new ones, though different ones and maybe not as big as traditional industries.

the difficult thing of course is we really don’t know yet if we as humans can do ANYTHING to at least slow down the process

We also don’t yet know if it is a man-made process or part of a larger natural warming trend due to coming out of a mini-ice age… not saying that means we shouldn’t try to be good stewards of the planet, just saying that it is hard to guage an appropriate reaction to a percieved problem when it is as yet unknown what the cause is or if it is actually a problem at all. all of these, and more, are happening already. You are correct that weather predictions are not always right for tomorrow (though they are pretty darn good), and that predicting global climate change is a lot harder and a lot less accurate, but scientists are doing the best we can. Should we ignore it because its not going to get everything right?

by jksnake99 on Sep 23, 2009 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

We shouldn't ignore it
Should we ignore it because its not going to get everything right?

but IMO we shouldn’t push for any drastic public policy based off of what the models predict

"Early to bed, early to rise, makes a woman healthy, wealthy, and wise. That's why you all are wiser than me. It's cloudydays."

by cloudydays on Sep 23, 2009 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

if we are observing them happening already

we don’t really need the models to base public policy around, do we?

"Early to bed, early to rise, makes a woman healthy, wealthy, and wise. That's why you all are wiser than me. It's cloudydays."

by cloudydays on Sep 23, 2009 1:22 PM PDT up reply actions

yes we do, because otherwise our policies will be very short-sighted.

we can’t take the predictions as absolute truth, but we need to design with an eye toward the future, which in some cases means designing for the worst case scenario (as we do when we design things like bridges and dams).

by jksnake99 on Sep 23, 2009 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

my point is

I have no problem with public policy to help prevent certain things we are observing today, and using the models to help guide the policy.

i hate the idea of creating a public policy based off of something we haven’t observed yet, except in the models (drastically rising sea levels is one off the top of my head)

"Early to bed, early to rise, makes a woman healthy, wealthy, and wise. That's why you all are wiser than me. It's cloudydays."

by cloudydays on Sep 23, 2009 1:28 PM PDT up reply actions

so you are not in favor of planning/being ready for the worst case scenario?

would you have been in favor of designing the levees protecting New Orleans for a Katrina level storm, even if one hadn’t hit yet (and models, suggested— as they did— that one could)?

We are constantly designing policy (be it economic, environmental, whatever) based on imperfect projections of the future.

Should a city build a new water supply to be able to supply the current population or should it build it big enough to satisfy the projected population 50-100 years down the road, even if that population increase hasn’t happened yet?

You are essentially advocating for disastrously short-sighted policy.

Again, we have to make adjustments and we can never take models as absolute truth (by definition, they are not), but we have to use them as guides and think about the future when making policy.

slightly random, slightly off topic question for the scientists… current data indicates that at some point Mars sustained some form of life (micro-organisms) but mars no longer sustains life… has anything been proposed to study the massive climate change that must have occured on Mars to kill off the organisms?

my 2 cents

The planet would be in an interstadal l[sp?] warming period if humans did not exist which is not to deny we are part of the equation.NOAA wasted many millions of $’s on a paleoclimatology model that was based on the absurd premise that the level of volcanic activity has been consistent throughout geologic history

Yeah, we don’t know if our behavior is the cause and we don’t know if we can be part of the solution much less the whole solution. But there is a good chance we are at least a significant part of the cause and the solution, so saying “because I don’t know that, I won’t do jack” (not that you would say that, just what some people say) isn’t good proactive leadership in any case. I’m not advocating we should go back to the bronze age in order to use very little natural resources. Yet it’s also becoming increasingly clear that there are billions of people who can’t lead the same lifestyle we are leading today and exploit the planet the same way we did the last few hundred years, or the world will really be too small for all of us. Likely we will have to divert some of our money into living more cautiously and consciously, invent more responsible technologies, and ask other nations to do the same.

Or risk paying a bitter price in the not too distant future when at least the world will be a less environmentally rich place, and at worst we will have wars for resources and a decreasing space to live on with more and more people competing in it. And I fear there are nations and regions that can survive with less and fight harder than your average Western Civilized Man.

By the way, a friend of mine studies geo-economics and currently tries to find out in his post-doc work what makes some countries rich and some countries poor. As simple as it sounds, there is no good theory to really fully explain it be it geographically or demographically or whatever. I’ll be fascinated to hear what he finds out over the next few (or many) years.

wouldn't there be just a whole bunch of different factors?

natural resources would be the biggest IMO

by cloudydays on Sep 23, 2009 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Not necessarily. Say Germany or Switzerland has about no natural resources (apart from a little coal and some minerals, but minute compared to other countries), but are very rich. The Congo or South Africa has enormous natural resources, but a large number of people is dirt poor. Lines of longitude or latitude doesn’t explain it either. Neither does the political system of a country. At least not in full. Maybe it can’t be explained or not by one big thing, but traditional theories aren’t good and should be improvable by what I have learned so far.

apparently (at least according to ESPN) he admitted his mechanics are off
Tom Brady owners can officially worry. He has looked stiff and inaccurate the first two games, and he came out Monday and said he knows his mechanics are off. Terrific. Brady clearly missed Wes Welker against the Jets, and Joey Galloway is a disaster in a Patriots uniform. It’d be easy simply to whistle past the graveyard and pretend nothing’s wrong, but the Patriots should be 0-2, and mostly because of Brady and his offensive line.

wow this dude is effing insane
Perhaps one of the issues leading to this circumstance with players is that players in Portland don’t feel that the club has their best interests at heart. While a team must always remain dispassionate its their players to a certain degree, there are few organizations that (at least outwardly) treat their players with less humanity.

KP loves this team.

Dude are you (insert bad word that starts with an F) insane?! First off Hedo was the only player to turn down Portland. There’s something called restricted free agency which prevented Portland from getting Paul Millsap. Second, how are you going to sit here and say Portland’s front office doesn’t care about their players? Kevin Pritchard has said multiple times he loves the guys on the team and has a personal connection with them. Seeing as this is coming from Toronto, I’m just going to guess you’re still butt hurt about the Raps picking that bum Bargnani while Brandon Roy continues to light up the NBA and that you that guys got stuck with Hedo Turkoglu. Have fun being a sub .500 team in the eastern conference and still missing the playoffs while Portland makes a deep run in the west.

Ya just don't get it, Cabby

Most teams that win 20 something games and then add NO ONE WHO MATTERS often go on to become champions within a few short years.

Just like us, when we won 20-something games. We just kept the same team together, waited, and boom, we won 54 games with no changes.

Is that a euphemism for “we have a least one position (which would be the vertical axis in a depth chart, right) that sucks”?

We'll have to stroke his ego and make him feel special

But until there is a problem I won’t worry about it.

There may be a problem one day, but right now, he’s a great 6th man and a so-so starting SG. We make him feel special, we find him minutes SOMEWHERE (as long as he’s worth the minutes), and everything will be fine.

He didn’t come over to play for peanuts to only make money. We’ll pay him whatever he’s worth, and give him a chance to be all he can be. I hope he becomes so good it becomes a problem!

Basically, can one ninja take on Oakridge, Oregon, or Medford, Oregon? I think you go by the theory that one gets there and his noise draws more and more until you kill all the zombies or they kill you. Normal folks would run, but a ninja would just keep doing what ninja’s do.

She can’t get up on her own, but once up she can walk and change directions and doesn’t need to have the support under her. Just a helping hand up.

All in all, much faster progress than I expected. Thanks for asking, I don’t think I gave an update super recently!

And we took this as a chance to get her on a stricter diet. She’s lost 5LBS, so it’s going well.

Flesh

Uhhh… I forget the food name. Some nice healthy stuff. In a green bag. I knows it if I sees it.

The GOOD stuff.

She had gotten fat-fat-FAT before she was mine because my wife’s parents took care of her while wife was in law school. They fed her french fries, processed cheese spread, bread, crackers, everything you shouldn’t eat yourself let alone give a puppy dog. Made Mercury FAT.

She still has a waddle in her gut that hangs down from it. Once she was mine, I ran with her, took her for 3 half hour walks a day, had her lose 15 pounds or so.

We’ve been feeding her a healthy amount since then, and when she was diagnosed with the tumor and I had to save up for the surgery I did spoil her some. She’s still a lil’ tubby but much better than before.

And now, she’s lost 5lbs, and can get back into modeling.

by Mortimer on Sep 23, 2009 4:42 PM PDT up reply actions

excellent..

keep her away from grain.. thats especially hard on dogs with tumors.. invest in high quality food if you can (nothing from petsmart or petco) and give her some raw meat for rewards.. they love that..

its not bad, but its severly overpriced for its quality. I would put it on par really with science diet and iams.. neither of which are very good. I would pick RC over them but not by much

by GreatOden'sRaven on Sep 23, 2009 5:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I used to buy solid gold, but my store stopped carrying it during the melamine scare.

My vet recommended canin for my chihuahua, cause it was supposed to help with the tartar buildup, and makes pleasant poops.

by Tyler Durrden on Sep 23, 2009 5:31 PM PDT up reply actions

do they sell RC at your vet?

solid gold is good. can you find a local pet store.. there are some really good foods out there.. they are more pricey but you feed less so it works out to be about even

by GreatOden'sRaven on Sep 23, 2009 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

no they don't sell it at the vet, so I'm not worried about the sales ploy.

The pet store I used to go to closed, and since rc was available at petsmart it just made it easy. I got a bag of the solid gold for her after she had been on the rc for awhile and she wouldn’t go near it, maybe it’s time for another brand though

thats good.

vets sell science diet that way and frankly its substandard at best. It IS good if your dog has a messed up digestive system but its not that good..

if you want, take a look at your local pet store and shoot me an email and i can tell you what to get. I have a TON of experience with this stuff. spend a lot of time working with and training doggies. :)

So basically, I asked if we could use symbols to disguise cussing and 92 suggested just using Zach instead.

He proceeded to call Tom a Zach-hole:

A sucker punch would make you Zach Randolph.
No one wants to be Zach Randolph so it was probably best that you didn’t punch him.

this list

is really bad top 100 albums of the 2000’s
be warned if u don’t like hip hop, then dont go to link, and even if u do like hip hop u will probably be very disappointed, just a sample lil wayne makes the top 10 and 50 cent makes the top 5.

Easily better and/or more important albums from 2000 – today in no particular order:
Green Day – American Idiot, Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes – Elephant, Radiohead – Hail to the Thief, Alicia Keys – Songs In A Minor, Manu Chao – …Prôxima Estaciôn… Esperanza, Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP, Madonna – Music, … Gorillaz isn’t top 10 but was listed much too low. I think some best of Dylan or Springsteen were also released. All in all I liked the 90s better, but that is hardly the best of the last decade. Really too big of a focus on mainstream hip hop, and rather bad one.

i beg to differ

they may not be having much mainstream success but its hardly dead, and most the good ones are still making good enough money, they won’t be out there like jay-z big pimpin’ but i would think that would take away from what they are.

by phillyduck23 on Sep 23, 2009 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions

i know enough people in the industry

and people who book shows to positively tell you, that hip hop as a commercial art form is dead. and those guys out there making money are making money like u and i, not like mainstream artists

by GreatOden'sRaven on Sep 23, 2009 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

so what's wrong with that
